Speaker 1:Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good morning. This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's tip is that you and time are partners. You can put in work toward your goals and you can trust time to do its part too. Today's tip, like several other recent ones, comes from my new book Big Time, A Simple Path to Time Abundance. In the book, I encourage people to embrace the perspective of time abundance. You do have time for relationships, meaningful work, hobbies, fun, and more.
Speaker 1:I believe part of seeing time as abundant is being patient. You probably won't be surprised to know that I am not naturally a patient person. Productive, Sure, but patient, not so much. I'm guessing a lot of my listeners may not be especially patient people either. If we want something done, we want it done now. Yesterday would have been better. But I think there's a lot to be gained from what I like to call active patience. You do your part, and you trust time to do the rest, ultimately accomplishing what you can't do immediately on your own. there are plenty of contexts where you can see time doing its work.
Speaker 1:Fill a slow cooker with beef, potatoes, carrots, thyme, and not too much more, and magically, you have pot roast for dinner. With sunshine, rain, and a few years, a sapling becomes a tree. All the effort in the world can't make a tree grow overnight. But in time, almost no effort will lead to massive growth. Save some money every month, and with time and reasonable returns, you are ready to retire. You would have to save a lot more in a short period of time to do what time does with limited amounts over the long haul. I love this idea that we aren't doing all the work to reach our goals. Time is contributing too. You and time are partners in working to accomplish great things together. So, for instance, if you are hoping to meet a romantic partner, this might mean letting your friends know you're hoping to meet someone so they set you up, attending events where you're likely to cross paths with potential partners, and going on a number of first dates. You may not be able to predict when, but with time and patience, someone wonderful will most likely come along. Maybe you're saving for
Speaker 1:your first home. just a few hundred dollars per month at first, perhaps. Then you get a raise and put all the increase into your house fund, add time and interest, and soon enough, you have enough for a down payment. Or perhaps you've just moved to a new town and you miss your old friends back home. You cannot make an old friend, but you can meet new people, and some of them will become old friends through time, and shared experiences. You do what you can, and then time does its job too. There are some things we want in our lives that we can make happen through sheer hard work. But for some things we're hoping for, we have to do our part and be patient while time does the rest. Now, I'm not suggesting that you wait around for time to remedy your problems. Time needs a partner too. What I am suggesting is that you do your part and trust that time will work its wonders.
Speaker 1:In time, you will accomplish together what you can't on your own. In the meantime, this is Laura. Thanks for listening. And here's to making the most of our time.
