Speaker 1:Enough about that, let's get too Today's super Live Ay Lewis story. The story you were about to enjoy was inspired by s Butler three to one one. Thank you so much for your amazing idea. Ivy, can you please pass me the strawberries? Asked Lee by putting out his hand. What's the magic word? Giggled Ivy as she held the bull of strawberries just out of reach from her brother. Ivy star playing around, said Levi, sounding a bit annoyed, Please pass me in the strawberries. Wrong. The magic word this morning is pickles, Ivy laugh. But since you were polite, I'll give them to you anyway. Levi couldn't help but laugh too, as he grabbed a big scoop of strawberries and plopped them next to his pancakes on his plate. Well, you two are certainly in a good mood this morning.
Speaker 1:You're on, Levi and Ivy's dad, as he sat down at the table with his coffee. I have a feeling you're both going to have a great day, said Levi and Ivy's mama. She walked over to the table. You're done and I have a bunch of work to get to this morning. But once we're finished, we can all go for a hike, said Levi and Ivy's mamma. She grabbed some breakfast and headed down the hall. That sounds great, mom, answered Levi as he ate his pancakes. Ivy smiled back and finished up her orange juice. Okay, enjoy the rest of your breakfast, and please put your dishes in the sink when you're done, asked Levi and Ivy's dad as he grabbed a piece of bacon off Levi's plate with a slice and walked out of the kitchen toward his office.
Speaker 1:A hike sounds really fun, but what are we going to do until then, asked Ivy. We'll think of something, said Levi. They were sitting by an open window in the kitchen, and it was then that Levi and Ivy heard a noise outside. It sounded like wrestling, and that wrestling sounded like it was coming from the bushes just under the window. Levi and Ivy were both very curious to see what was making all the noise, so Levi slid up the screen on the window and he and his sister put their heads outside to take a closer listen.
Speaker 1:What could it be, whispered Levi, not wanting to scare whatever it was. Maybe a squirrel, or a neighborhood cat, or a baby bunny, said Ivy. Her eyes got big and a smile spread across her face. Oh wouldn't that be so cute if it was a little great bunny with long whiskers, a tiny pink nose, and the softest forever, said Ivy. We have to go outside and see what it is. Okay, okay, replied Levi. But if it's not a baby bunny, don't get all upset. Ivy just glared at her brother. I bet you're hoping to be a frog or a salamand or a snake. Any of those would be pretty cool, said Levi with a smile. As they walked to the backyard, still in their pajamas, Levi and Ivy tiptoed barefoot through the cool green grass toward the window where they heard the wrestling. Then, once they were standing in front of the bush under the window, Levi and Ivy knelt down to take a look. Oh, baby bunny, Ivy whispered, don't be afraid to come out.
Speaker 1:We're your friends. Or if you're a super cool looking frog, hop on out, buddy, said Levi. The rustling continued as a few branches of the bush moved ever so slightly. Then in a blink, Levi and Ivy were face to face with what was making the noise. Hi, baby bunny, exclaimed Ivy, scaring her new little friend back into hiding. Sorry, little buddy, Levi said quickly, she didn't mean to scare you. The baby bunny took a deep breath as Levi and Ivy tried to figure out what was going on. Well, lucky for them, they didn't have to wonder very long because the baby bunny told them you can talk, exclaimed Levi. Sorry, little buddy, Ivey said, he didn't mean to scare you. Yes, I can talk, and I'm so glad I found both of you. We need your help, said the baby bunny.
Speaker 1:Myself and all the animals in the forest behind your house are in danger, and some are even hurt. I have so many questions, began Levi. What's the danger, who's hurt? How did they get hurt? And where did you learn to talk? We don't have time for all those questions, answered the baby bunny. It would just be quicker if you saw it all for yourselves and talk to the other animals too. All the animal can talk, shouted Levi and Ivy in a whisper. Mom was right. We are going to have a great day, said Ivy. My sister and I will do anything to help the animals in need.
Speaker 1:But first we have to change and put some shoes on, said Levi. Then he and Ivy told the baby bunny they would be right back and raced into their house. They shout it to their parents that they would be playing in the forest behind their house and they would promise to be careful. They quickly threw on whatever clothes they could find and ran back out the door. The baby bunny was waiting patiently at the start of the rail that led to the forest. Levi and Ivy couldn't wait to help the baby bunny and all the animals in the forest, and quickly made their way down the trail.
Speaker 1:As they did, the baby bunny told them what had been going on in the forest and why she and the other animals needed their help. There's a hawk that lives just outside the forest, and he's been chasing all of us around, said the baby bunny, sounding quite nervous and scared. We're only safe when we're in the center of the forest because the hawk has trouble flying through all the branches covered in leaves, But once summer is over and the leaves begin to fall from the trees, he may be able to make his way in here.
Speaker 1:The baby bunny stopped and looked at Levi and Ivy with a tear in her eye. We're all just scared, said the baby bunny, and we don't know what to do. We understand, said Ivy, reassuringly. You and all the other animals want to feel safe in your home, and we're here to help. At that moment, a little mouse ran across the path and stopped in front of Levi and Ivy and the baby bunny. Thank you for bringing help, said the mouse to the baby bunny. You're just in time.
Speaker 1:I saw the shadow of a hawk flying over the trees this morning. Levi and Ivy said hello to the mouse. As more and more forest animals popped up to see who had come to the forest to help them, And it was then that Levi and Ivy noticed something very quickly. None of the animals were hurt. Levi and Ivy turned to the baby bunny as where the hurt animals were. The baby bunny just looked at the ground inside. You both seem so kind. I knew if I said some animals were hurt that you would definitely help us, said the baby bunny. I'm sorry I lie to you. I just couldn't risk you not coming along. We really need your health. And before Levi and Ivy could say another word, the mouse spoke up. We may not be hurt, but we're all more than a little scared, said the mouse, And that's the real reason we need your help. We need to figure out how to deal with the hawk before one of us does get hurt. We understand, said Levi, But from this point on, no more fibbs, said Ivy.
Speaker 1:The baby bunny and mouse nodded their heads and filled in Levi and Ivy on what has been going on recently. Anytime any of the animals ventured just outside the heavily tree covered part of the forest, a giant red hawk would fly at them and chase them around. Thankfully, the animals were quick and always manage to get back to a safe spot. The hawk would fly away, but it would never go too far. Levi and Ivy looked at each other. After hearing from the forest animals, they knew what they had to do. One way to start to solve a problem is to hear both sides. They had to talk to the hawk. They told their new forest friends to wait there and they would be back soon.
Speaker 1:Hopefully we can find out why he's been chasing you and let him know how scared it's making all of you, said Levi. Then once he hears that, hopefully he'll change his ways and you can all go back to living in a peaceful forest, said Ivy as she and her brother said goodbye to all the animals. They walked over to a small pond that was located on the edge of the forest. The tree cover was not very dense there, so they knew they had a good chance of seeing the hawk, and they were right. As soon as they stepped out from the shade of the giant trees in the forest, a shadow filled the sky above their heads. Then, in a matter of seconds, a giant red hawk was standing in front of them. He looked very confident, covered in beautiful rusty feathers, and was quite eager to find out all about Levi and Ivy. What are you doing here, asked the red hawk. I didn't know there were humans living in the forest. Hi, I'm Levi and this is my sister, Ivy, said Levi. We just live over there on the edge of the forest. We were asked to visit today by a very scared baby bunny, said Ivy.
Speaker 1:She spoke on behalf of all the scared animals in the forest. Oh no, what are they scared of? Asked the red hawk in a nervous voice, suddenly not looking so confident anymore. Levi and Ivy were surprised by his response. Well, they're scared of you, answered Levi. Then he went on to explain what the forest animals had told them about the Red Hawk chasing them and making them feel unsafe. The Red Hawk listened closely and couldn't believe his years.
Speaker 1:They were scared of me, he asked, I was only playing with them. I thought they knew that. I mean, I guess it's hard to have a real conversation with any of them because as soon as they see me they run away. But I thought they heard me say it was all just a game, like a game of tag, asked Ivy. The Red Hawk nodded his head. Oh no, that is definitely not at all what they thought, said Ivy. I'm so glad we found you and had this conversation. The Red Hawk felt terrible thinking that all the little forest animals were scared of him. Even though he was much bigger than the squirrels, chipmunks, mice, and baby bunnies that called the forest home, he was only a baby himself.
Speaker 1:Levi tried to convince the Red Hawk to follow he and Ivy back to the center of the forest to talk with the other animals. The Red Hawk was very hesitant, not wanting to scare them anymore. Ivy offered to run ahead and tell the forest animals that the hawk was coming and explain to them that everything was going to be fine. After reassuring all the animals that there was no day, Ivy called out to Levi and he walked over with the Red Hawk, who apologized instantly upon seeing all of the other animals. I'm so sorry I scared you.
Speaker 1:I thought you heard me when I said it was just a big game of chase, said the red hawk. I hope you can forgive me and that we can be friends. All the animals in the forest believed the red hawk was being sincere and that he didn't mean to scare them. They welcomed into their forest home and said he could come and play any time. As Levi and Ivy watched the animals becoming friends right before their eyes, they knew they had done something really special. They said goodbye to the baby bunny, the mouse, the red hawk, and all the other animals in the forest before they headed back home. When they got there, their parents were sitting on the back deck, each enjoying a glass of lemonade.
Speaker 1:We finished our work early, and we're ready for that hike if you two are, asked Levin and Ivy's mom. We sure are, Levi said, as he smiled at his sister. Oh wow, call that Levi and Ivy's dad as he pointed toward the sky. Look at that red hawk. It's huge. Levi and Ivy turned their eyes to the sky and watched as the red hawks soared overhead. And as they looked a little closer, Levi nudged Ivy and said, in surprise, do you see that? Ivy nodded her head. I can't believe it, she said, with a huge smile. That is so cool. And as Levi and Ivy's parents went inside to get ready for their hike, the red hawk dipped a bit lower so Levi and Ivy could get a better look at what they thought they had seen. It was the baby bunny and the mouse sitting on the back of a red hawk as it glided through the air.
Speaker 1:Now they were all friends, and it was all thanks to Levi and Ivy. Thanks for joining us today. We hope you enjoyed the story and learned a little something too.
