Episode notes
Send us Fan Mail Your preparedness plan shouldn’t live in a dozen tabs and half-remembered bookmarks. I’m finally fixing that by launching BuildYourArk.net, a single home for the Common Sense Practical Prepper Podcast where every episode is easy to find, filter, and actually use when you’re trying to make decisions for your family. I also share a big step forward for the show: my tech partner relationship with Be Prepared Solutions. This isn’t a slap-on sponsorship. Their platform brings the...

Keith:You are listening to the Common Sense Practical Prepper, sponsored by Duct Tape, the real Duct Tape. It fixes everything except that decision. Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. America. From border to border, coast to coast, and all ships at sea. Here is your host, Keith. Hey all, this is Keith, and welcome back to the Common Sense Practical Prepper Podcast for October the 13th, 2026. Okay, so here is the big announcement. I have a brand new website. We'll talk about that here in just a second.
Keith:And I also want to talk about a new partnership I have with a company that I think you are really going to enjoy their content. So for the longest time, the show has been kind of scattered. The audio podcasts are on BuzzSprout. But if I wanted to do a video, a blog, link an article, there was no real good way to place those within the podcast. It had to be just a bunch of hyperlinks in the show notes. So with the new website, buildyourark.net. Buildyourark.net.
Keith:I got that title. I'm using that title from the four-part series I did on water, food, home security, and electricity from the BuildYourArc series. So that is a website that is built. The great thing about buildyourark.net, all of my episodes, all of the podcasts are pulled in from BuzzSprout. They still host the actual files. It's pulled in automatically so it's current. You go to buildyourark.net, if you go into episodes, the episodes tab, you can filter all of it.
Keith:You can do all, and it'll give you the most recent. You can do, I want just food and water, I want power and off-grid, mindset, fiction series, we'll get you lone man on the ridge. Everything is on the single website. In addition, there are articles. So when I record a podcast, it then pulls from the podcast and gives you an article that you can go really deep into if you want to. It's not a transcript. This is an actual article that is written based on the podcast episode that I just recorded.
Keith:So I did not build this website alone. I want to introduce you to Brian and Tiran with Be Prepared Solutions. I am what they call a tech partner. So this is a two-way build with their dashboard as well as the website. I'm not standing off to the side pointing at someone else's product saying, oh, cool, check it out. And they're not just handing me a banner or something to throw on a website. This goes both directions. They bring the platform, the technology, the enormous amount of computer power, an engine that personalizes a plan for your situation.
Keith:They have the muscle and the bandwidth to host all of this. I bring the show, I bring the episodes. So the way I think about this stuff, the topics, the voice, the trust that you and I have built one episode at a time, their system actually learns from my show. The things we talk about here become the material that people can dig into. So this is not their thing with my name just stapled on it. And it's not my thing running on rented space. It goes both ways.
Keith:And the great thing about this is I have met with Brian and Tiran, gosh, no less than 10 times. I have been running their dashboard and my website for almost a month now. So let me tell you about the website and what it does. When you go to the website, and I'm going to post links in the show notes, you can also get all of this by just going to buildyourark.net. You can listen to the podcast. You can go to trusted resources. So how this works is this: when you get into the Be Prepared Solutions dashboard, I want you to put down an address.
Keith:You don't have to use your actual address if you don't want to for OPSEC, but put in an address of a neighbor across the street, the Burger King down at the corner, what have you. The great thing about this, it builds a plan, but it also does like a baseline report. It grabs everything and then some from the last 10 years. So if you use your address, it's going to tell you everything about your address, utilities, fire department, hospitals, weather, bad storms in the past.
Keith:If your property is prone to wildfires, you're in a flood zone, it's going to give you a ton of information. Once you have the baseline, another really cool thing to do is to go into the Be Aware dashboard. That's the monitoring dashboard. Once you have your address in or the address that you want to use, it's going to pull up a map. This map is so interactive. There are dozens of things that you can track. There are news tickers. There are environmental alerts.
Keith:You can look at the outages, any power outages in your area. The amount of effort that Be Prepared Solutions has put into this dashboard, I have never seen anything like it. And I've been involved in emergency preparedness, especially as a police officer, for a long time. They do all of the heavy lifting. So you don't have to. You get all of this information literally at your fingertip. So here's the part that I want you to do because don't take my word for it.
Keith:You can see the whole thing for yourself before you even pay a dime. There's a free trial. It's a seven-day free trial. It's not a three-day free trial. You can't set it up on a Friday. The weekend gets away from you. And then, oh no, it's Sunday night and you've already burned through 48 hours of your 72. Seven-day free trial. Put in your address and it pulls that baseline that goes back 10 years. Floods, storms, outages, a true history of that address.
Keith:Then you can build a plan. There are dozens of plans. So just for the conversation's sake, you can build a plan about the grid going down. And then the subplans. Are you worried about food and water? Are you worried about the internet? Are you worried about power? And then it actually builds a specific plan for your needs. If you don't need part of the plan, if you have that taken care of, that's fantastic. That's just one less thing that you have to worry about.
Keith:And when it comes to building your plan and the live monitoring, I'll let you know this the strongest area or the most information you're going to get is for addresses in North America. If you're listening outside of North America, then you can still dig into everything else the episodes, the articles, the kits, everything is there. The content travels. So if you live in the UK, if you live in Australia, you still have access to obviously all of my website, the episodes, the articles, all the resources.
Keith:So go to Be Prepared Solutions. Follow the links that are on buildyourark.net and go ahead and set up your free trial. There is so much information. Let you in on another secret. I got to see the beta version of their new dashboard. If you think this dashboard is really good, wait till you see the beta version that comes out. There was so much additional information. The great thing about working with be prepared. If there's a bug, if there's a new feature that I think they should add, I provide that to them and almost in near real time, they fix it.
Keith:They'll email me right back or text me right back. Hey, log in, tell me what you think. That's how dedicated they are. Again, I've never seen a dashboard that is this intuitive or has this much information. I really, really think you guys are going to enjoy this. So again, buildyourark.net, poke around on my website, read the articles, read the blogs, go ahead and click on the links. Takes you to be prepared and follow through and go ahead and mess around with the free trial.
Keith:So I'll keep the business side simple, like I always do. If you end up signing up for a plan through the site, yes, it does support the show. There is also a part in there where you can build a kit. You can build a kit that is specific to the plan that you've built, or you can just build a kit on your own. The cool thing about the kits, if you want the kit, it populates into your Amazon cart. If you look at your cart and you don't like the battery bank because you want to substitute an anchor battery bank instead of the one that was chosen for you, just take it out.
Keith:When I was testing the cart, I brought in the stuff from one of my plans, but then I also added cat food. I was able to add my cat food to the cart. So it's not specific just for them. You can mix and match, pull out what you don't want, add what you do, and if you're like me and you forget cat food, just go ahead and toss the cat food right into it. But I think you're really going to be impressed. There is a ton of information, both on the website and both on Be Prepared.
Keith:So do me a favor, give it a look-see. I just wanted to give everybody kind of a quick introduction, a 30,000-foot view. A lot of the information, it can be overwhelming. It depends on how many rabbit holes you want to go down into. But like I've told Brian and Tiran, that the information here, if you're honest with yourself, there is absolutely something for everybody on their dashboard. If you are a well-established veteran prepper, you are absolutely going to learn something.
Keith:I have learned so many things just by navigating the dashboard, looking into the different plans. If you are new to prepping or you're going to get into prepping, you're thinking about it, this is a fantastic gateway for that because you can literally start out small. Just like I've said, prepping does not have to be complicated. It does not have to be expensive. You prep at your own pace. It gives you PDFs, it gives you checklists that you can print out.
Keith:You can put in multiple addresses. You can put in your address, and then let's say your kids are going off to college. They're going to, I don't know, Tennessee or University of Chicago, something like that. You can put in the address of their university and you can have that as one of your three addresses. The great thing about the monitoring part, you can switch back and forth. If you're monitoring your home address and there's a storm coming, you're going to get that annoying alert, just like the weather channel gives you, and you're going to get the details on the weather.
Keith:If there's power outages in your city, you get to see every outage, what kind of outage, how many people it's affecting. They basically take all the apps that we have on our phones, all the apps that we have on the desktop, and they bring that all together in one location. I think that is absolutely key. It is everything you wanted to know about your town, your city, your house, prepping, and then some. There is not a shortage of information. And if the beta dashboard is going to be anything like it was yesterday, you are going to be absolutely blown away.
Keith:If you're not blown away by this dashboard, wait till the beta version gets pushed out because that is some very, very powerful stuff. Again, I have, of all the emergency management I've done, I have yet to see a dashboard that brings in this amount of information in such a concise deck, I guess you could say. Again, please give it a shot. Seven-day free trial, buildyourark.net. Send me an email, practicalprep podcast at gmail.com. Tell me what you think about the dashboard.
Keith:I know I do audio only, so it might be a little difficult because I'm not doing a video. But honestly, email me. Ask me questions about this website. Ask me questions about the dashboard. If I cannot get the answer to you, I will find out from Brian and Tiran and I will get that information to you ASAP. All right, folks, thank you so much for listening. Check out the website, poke around in it. Tell me what is good about buildyourark.net. Tell me what you would like to see.
Keith:Check the dashboard out at Be Prepared Solutions. I'll put plenty of links in the show notes. If you like it, tell me that. If you don't, tell me that too. If you think something should be added, all you have to do is drop me an email and 99% sure that within 30 minutes of me contacting Be Prepared, that little tweak will be added or removed from the dashboard. All right, folks, thank you so much for listening. I really do appreciate it. Thank you so much again.
Keith:I am really stoked about the website and super stoked about being a tech partner with Be Prepared Solutions. All right, folks, as always, please be careful out there. Take care of one another, and until next time. You've been listening to the Common Sense Practical Prepper. Subscribe, like, drop a review over and out.

Trash Bags To Bandanas Practical Backup Gear
Send us Fan Mail A contractor trash bag. Dental floss. A kid’s crayon. A bandana. If those sound too ordinary to matter, that’s exactly the point. We get back to common sense emergency preparedness by walking through household items that can keep you warm, dry, and moving when your “real gear” is missing, soaked, broken, or just out of reach. Along the way, I share a quick detour into bunker browsing and survival shelter communities, because we’ve all been there, but then we bring it home to ...
