Part 1 One of our listeners did something THREE different times during their date… and while once might be strange, at the end it all made sense. Part 2 One of our listeners admits SHE did something stupid, just to MEET a guy. Was it her idea? No. Was it effective? Let's find out! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Speaker 1:Welcome to it. It is your Saturday double. Double classics. Saturday double.
Speaker 2:Here we go.
Speaker 1:Yep.
Speaker 3:Let's do it.
Speaker 4:A double header. It's like sports.
Speaker 5:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Exactly right, Jose.
Speaker 4:Let's go.
Speaker 6:Yep.
Speaker 1:If dating were a sport, this would be where you'd want to be. Yep.
Speaker 6:It is Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. And before we get to our back-to-back classics, what do you got in comments?
Speaker 5:Yeah.
Speaker 7:Hannah, you said, I'm listening through this show from the start, and I'm currently in January 2020. Everyone's talking about how good they feel and excited 2019 is over and all your resolutions. I feel like I'm watching the beginning of a horror movie where the family first.
Speaker 8:Arrives to the haunted house.
Speaker 7:They're super excited about the house, but I saw the trailer and I know that Ish is about to go down.
Speaker 3:Oh, so well explained.
Speaker 8:They're like, who knew this house was only $ 20, 000 and it's eight bedrooms?
Speaker 1:Oh my God. That would be wild.
Speaker 6:I haven't gone back and re-listened to our shows from January of 2020. But I distinctly remember having a conversation with Jose in the studio being like, oh, China shut down.
Speaker 1:That could never happen here, huh, Jose? Yeah, it's weird.
Speaker 4:Anyway, I'm going to book a flight for next week.
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 3:But we made it.
Speaker 1:We made it. We made it.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 1:I can't wait till you get to 2026. All right, here we go. What are we doing this for? We're doing the double header, Brooke. Oh, the classics. Get with it. It starts now.
Speaker 8:Is it okay to do the same thing or the same activity twice in one date?
Speaker 4:I guess it depends. I can't think of. I can think of one thing.
Speaker 8:Not the activity. Get your minds out of the gutter here. Come on.
Speaker 1:How about three times, Jeff?
Speaker 8:I'm talking about going someplace or doing something in public.
Speaker 1:So am I.
Speaker 8:Because one of our listeners did something three separate times, not that, during their hangout.
Speaker 6:Good job.
Speaker 8:By the end, we finally heard the reason why they kept repeating the same activity. And it made total sense. You're going to hear it in a second date update.
Speaker 2:Next.
Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 3:Second date update.
Speaker 8:Brooke, I don't know how you feel about meeting guys at the gym.
Speaker 1:The gym?
Speaker 8:Yeah, are you worried about that? Because it's usually pretty loud in there, and you're sweating. And we know, Brooke, that you don't wear deodorant. Or at least not deodorants that work. You like to do that organic stuff.
Speaker 6:I mean, how else do you send your pheromones out into the world, Jeffrey?
Speaker 8:A.K.A.
Speaker 4:Hot guy deterrent.
Speaker 8:Is that what that smell is when I go in the gym?
Speaker 1:Pheromones?
Speaker 8:I don't know. It might not be the cutest look sometimes, but... That's where one of our listeners, Vanessa, says she ended up meeting a guy over at her local gym. And it seems to work out okay for her until it didn't.
Speaker 5:Nice.
Speaker 1:Maybe I need to get her a deodorant brand.
Speaker 8:Maybe. Vanessa, what type of deodorant do you use?
Speaker 2:I'm a Dove girl.
Speaker 4:Dove? That's a good one.
Speaker 8:Is that okay for you, Brooke?
Speaker 6:Eh.
Speaker 1:I like to go a little more natural.
Speaker 4:Maybe just give it a try. I'm pretty sure Brooklyn uses mayonnaise and lemon juice.
Speaker 8:Unless it's an actual dove, a live dove that she can rub.
Speaker 4:Underneath her arms.
Speaker 1:It's like a cave.
Speaker 4:Once the dove is dead, it's time to change it out.
Speaker 8:Thank you for the recommendation on the deodorant, but let's focus on your love life here. Tell us about the guy that you met when you were at the gym.
Speaker 2:Totally. I was working out the other day. You know, across the room, I kind of saw this guy. He was cute, of course, in really good shape. And I kept glancing, but I was trying not to make it obvious.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I mean, it.
Speaker 1:Can be so awkward if you get caught staring.
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 4:Yeah, no matter what side you're a guy or a girl.
Speaker 1:I mean, nobody really likes that at the gym.
Speaker 2:Or do they, I mean, some people are checking themselves out the whole time.
Speaker 8:Those are the people that are annoying. Sometimes it's kind of like a confidence boost to notice somebody glancing at you.
Speaker 1:How'd you get his attention?
Speaker 2:Well, it wasn't on purpose, but we kind of like locked eyes through the mirror, you know?
Speaker 8:Oh.
Speaker 2:Yeah. So in order to make it not be super awkward since he knew now I was looking at him, I went over and I asked if he would spot me to do some squats.
Speaker 8:Oh, that's nice.
Speaker 3:That's forward. That's good.
Speaker 1:The trip's risky because you can't tell who's single or not sometimes.
Speaker 4:That's true, but if you're just asking for a spot, you're just asking, like, hey, come and share my space.
Speaker 8:Did you get this guy's name during this whole encounter?
Speaker 2:Yeah, his name is Alex.
Speaker 8:Okay.
Speaker 1:And how'd the spotting go?
Speaker 9:Really well.
Speaker 2:Like, he was supporting me and encouraging and just super nice and sweet.
Speaker 1:That's awesome.
Speaker 4:Some good vibes.
Speaker 1:So you were able to turn that into something else?
Speaker 2:Well, yes. So the rest of the workouts, we kind of were just like near each other doing our own thing. And then we kind of finished around the same time. So when we were leaving, he asked if I wanted to go across the street and get some coffee.
Speaker 1:Oh, that's cute.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I didn't have plans. So we went and got some coffee and it just felt so like natural and comfortable.
Speaker 6:And it's so awesome to have like an impromptu date on that because no one.
Speaker 1:Can cancel, you know, like there's no lead up. It's just happening.
Speaker 10:Yeah.
Speaker 1:What did you guys connect over besides working out?
Speaker 2:Well, like our jobs are somewhat similar. We talked about family. I mean, yeah, we talked about everything really.
Speaker 1:How long did you hang out?
Speaker 8:No, no, no one cares about any of that. Let's move.
Speaker 2:On.
Speaker 8:What happened after coffee? Was that the end of it?
Speaker 7:It was not.
Speaker 2:So it was like a super nice day out. And I feel like neither of us wanted it to end. So we ended up going to the park and like walking around.
Speaker 1:Oh, dang.
Speaker 4:A workout, then a walk.
Speaker 1:Sounds like Jose's nightmare.
Speaker 4:Oh my god, can we just lay down?
Speaker 8:You guys are both in good shape, at least.
Speaker 1:Yeah, but this time you're like dried sweaty, you know?
Speaker 4:Yeah, sweaty, dry, maybe sweaty.
Speaker 8:That's a good point. Was there anything weird that was happening during this encounter, like at coffee or at the park?
Speaker 2:No, the park was actually so fun. We were walking and I mentioned how I also do yoga and I ended up showing him some yoga poses in the park.
Speaker 6:You guys are that fit couple in the park. Spandex looking great doing yoga poses.
Speaker 8:Oh, God.
Speaker 1:Did he like that?
Speaker 2:He seemed to, because then we kind of finished our walk around the park, and he was like, I'm kind of a coffee addict. Do you want to go get another coffee?
Speaker 7:What?
Speaker 4:More coffee.
Speaker 6:I mean, do you think at this point you should have, like, bowed out? Like, the momentum's good. That's when you leave.
Speaker 1:Leave him wanting more.
Speaker 2:But we had more momentum.
Speaker 8:What, you did a CrossFit class next? Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1:I feel like it's just the caffeine.
Speaker 8:If you go to coffee, he's going to be like, you want to go back to the gym now?
Speaker 1:Is he just not very creative?
Speaker 4:Coffee, park, gym.
Speaker 8:Me, big bro.
Speaker 1:How was second coffee?
Speaker 2:Also amazing.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 8:I'm seeing a pattern here.
Speaker 10:Okay.
Speaker 4:You want to go look into some mirrors?
Speaker 8:Or is he still there with you?
Speaker 2:I mean, I hate to just put this out on the radio, but I ended up staying the night.
Speaker 1:What?
Speaker 8:Oh, so we did it.
Speaker 1:Did you get to shower at any point?
Speaker 2:Yeah. I mean, there was some food. There was some shower. I couldn't have, like, subsided totally on just coffee alone.
Speaker 1:And I bet you guys stayed up late after all that coffee.
Speaker 8:Brooke told me.
Speaker 4:Another workout session.
Speaker 8:How did you leave it?
Speaker 3:Everything stayed awesome.
Speaker 2:Like he was really sweet the next morning. He walked me out. We ended up walking down the street to Starbucks and had our morning coffee together.
Speaker 8:Oh my God.
Speaker 4:Oh, okay.
Speaker 8:And so was that the end of the date?
Speaker 5:Yes.
Speaker 8:Okay.
Speaker 3:I'm exhausted.
Speaker 8:It was like a whole relationship.
Speaker 4:She's like, then we went to a roastery.
Speaker 8:Okay.
Speaker 2:We did a whole week's worth in one day.
Speaker 8:Oh, well, that's nice.
Speaker 1:And you haven't heard anything.
Speaker 9:Exactly.
Speaker 2:This is why now I have to call you. It's been a few days. Suddenly you were cold. So, like, I literally know nothing.
Speaker 4:Well, this is a good thing. Sometimes one date can turn into a whole weekend. You know, it's a good thing if you were both on the same page. Who are we to say this is bad?
Speaker 8:But sometimes hanging out too much, that's like the kiss of death.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Could be.
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 8:Let's find out. Sit tight. We'll come back. We'll call Alex for you and try and get you your second date update right after this, okay?
Speaker 2:Perfect. Thank you, guys.
Speaker 8:Hold on.
Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 3:Second date update.
Speaker 8:It's a date that started off amazing. They locked eyes across a crowded gym, had an instant vibe going, decided to hang out.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 8:But 14 hours and 200 cups of coffee later, they're not speaking to each other anymore. Yeah. Our listener Vanessa doesn't blame Brooke for that.
Speaker 1:Good. Why would she?
Speaker 8:I do.
Speaker 5:What?
Speaker 2:Why do you blame me?
Speaker 8:I don't know. It just feels right.
Speaker 6:Okay.
Speaker 8:But we don't know what the reason is, actually, for why her date Alex isn't calling her back.
Speaker 1:Maybe he just hasn't had his coffee yet, you know?
Speaker 4:Or maybe he's finally asleep after seven days of his coffee.
Speaker 1:You mean a caffeine coma.
Speaker 5:Yes. Possibly.
Speaker 8:But it is odd because she ended up spending the night over at Alex's place.
Speaker 1:And they went to coffee afterwards.
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Like, usually if it's going to be weird and awkward... There's a reason that you have to go.
Speaker 8:You're going to have to leave. I got to get ready for work. So we have a mystery on our hands. We're going to get to the bottom of it. How are you feeling here, Vanessa? Do you need some coffee?
Speaker 2:No, I am good. I'm confident. I'm ready for you guys to help.
Speaker 1:What do you think it is? Just any guesses before we call?
Speaker 2:No, I really had so much fun. I just don't even know.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 1:I'm wondering what her coffee order is. Is it weird? You guys, she stayed the night and he took her out to coffee again this morning.
Speaker 4:Oh, maybe you were Big Spoon.
Speaker 8:And he didn't enjoy that. Some guys love it, some.
Speaker 4:Guys hate it.
Speaker 1:Maybe he wanted to be Sir Stick.
Speaker 5:No.
Speaker 4:That's a good coffee joke. Come on, guys.
Speaker 2:Give her a laugh.
Speaker 8:That was fun.
Speaker 4:Thanks, Jose.
Speaker 8:I don't know what that even means, but we're gonna, on that note, call Alex for you and try and get your second date update, okay? Okay, I'm ready. Us two, I think. Here we go. Hello? Hey, is this Alex?
Speaker 5:No, this is Alan.
Speaker 4:Alan.
Speaker 6:Alan?
Speaker 1:Do you know Alex?
Speaker 10:No.
Speaker 5:This is Alan. I'm pretty sure I know my name.
Speaker 4:Is that another radio show calling him? I'm going to be so mad.
Speaker 8:You didn't have a roommate named Alex or something? Or someone who shares his phone?
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 8:Who is this?
Speaker 6:Whoa.
Speaker 5:What's going on?
Speaker 8:You were a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 1:Did we get the name wrong?
Speaker 5:Wow.
Speaker 8:I don't think so. I thought we heard it right.
Speaker 4:She said it in a I don't know.
Speaker 1:We get names wrong a lot.
Speaker 8:One of our listeners is a girl that says that she went on a date with you. Did you go out with someone recently that you met at a gym?
Speaker 5:I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about. Vanessa?
Speaker 1:Uh-huh.
Speaker 8:Yeah. Okay, so this is the right guy.
Speaker 1:Oh, no. Did she get your name wrong?
Speaker 10:Yeah.
Speaker 5:I mean, honestly, the date was going great, but she just kept calling me all these different names. She called me Andrew. She called me Andy. She called me Alan at one point. She got my name right at one point.
Speaker 4:By accident?
Speaker 11:Yeah.
Speaker 5:Then she called me Aaron like a second later.
Speaker 1:I don't get it, though.
Speaker 6:It sounds like you're mad at her, but I mean, this is the woman that stayed the night at your house, right?
Speaker 5:Yeah. I mean, it was crazy. I kept taking us to Starbucks because they would call my name out. I was trying to get her to.
Speaker 8:Oh, my God.
Speaker 1:Brilliant, bro.
Speaker 8:Wait, she mentioned going to the coffee shop a bunch of times during your date, but she said it's because you were a coffee addict. That's what you told her.
Speaker 5:I was just trying to be subtle, and this is my name.
Speaker 2:Oh.
Speaker 8:Oh my God, so you.
Speaker 6:Were only taking her so that the barista would call out your.
Speaker 8:Name, Alan.
Speaker 5:Yeah, so they're yelling my name over and over.
Speaker 1:Oh, that is so uncomfortable. Why didn't you tell, why weren't you just more direct?
Speaker 5:I did, I did correct her, but after the second time of correcting her, I just thought Starbucks would fix it.
Speaker 1:But you corrected her twice?
Speaker 11:Of course.
Speaker 6:What did she say when you told her, that's not my name, my name's Alan?
Speaker 5:She just smiled and said, okay.
Speaker 4:She wasn't even embarrassed?
Speaker 8:I would have been mortified. She just had hearts in her eyes looking at him like, whatever you say.
Speaker 4:Sure, Alakazam.
Speaker 8:Amos.
Speaker 5:I was ready to suggest like tattoos that we could get over each of our names.
Speaker 8:Oh my God. But you know, I'm willing to bet that if we talk to her randomly right now, that she would get your name right.
Speaker 1:I hope.
Speaker 10:Randomly?
Speaker 8:And we should put it to the test because... She's randomly on the phone right now listening and wanting to talk to you, Alan.
Speaker 2:Hi.
Speaker 5:I don't really know what to say.
Speaker 2:Oh, my gosh. I'm so embarrassed. I listened to your whole thing. I just kind of have a bad memory sometimes. Like if I'm wrapped up in the moment. I don't pay attention to the details.
Speaker 4:Oh, you're just awful with names.
Speaker 8:I get that for a moment, but for a 14-hour date, it's a little longer than a moment.
Speaker 6:You know, details is like what color shirt he's wearing, not what his name is.
Speaker 2:But like, just because we're in Starbucks, I mean, I'm not like staring at his cup to see what was written or we're talking, having fun. I'm not listening to hear what his name is when they call it out.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 8:We're still waiting for that, that I'm sorry for getting your name wrong. If you want to throw that in there, that's okay.
Speaker 2:Alan, I am so sorry. I feel foolish. I was having so much fun, though.
Speaker 5:Look, I don't know what to tell you. I mean, it was just very awkward. You couldn't remember.
Speaker 8:I don't know.
Speaker 5:Why can't you remember my name? Why is it so hard?
Speaker 2:Alan is a pretty common name. It doesn't stand out.
Speaker 5:It's my fault.
Speaker 2:I'm not saying it's your fault. I mean, maybe we can blame whoever named you a little bit. They could have been a little more creative.
Speaker 8:Alan, is it your mom or your dad that we should....
Speaker 6:There's no way you're an Allen without being a junior or a second or something.
Speaker 2:I feel like I would have remembered it better if you were like Felix or Spud. Like just something that really kind of stands out. Spud? Spud?
Speaker 8:Spud.
Speaker 1:Wait, spud like a nickname, like a potato?
Speaker 4:Yeah, like a tater.
Speaker 2:See, you remember. You can do that association.
Speaker 8:It stands out.
Speaker 6:Well, I mean, that could be a positive. Maybe you could come up with a cute pet name for him.
Speaker 8:Oh, good idea, Brooke.
Speaker 1:And then you never have to call him Alan.
Speaker 4:Call him Bean, like Coffee Bean.
Speaker 5:My name is Alan. I just like to be called that.
Speaker 8:Yeah, but it's not working for you, is it?
Speaker 4:Not for any of us.
Speaker 6:My uncle's name was Alan, and he went by Lan, like the second half of Alan.
Speaker 1:I think that's kind of cool, yeah.
Speaker 8:You could go like A-train or something like that.
Speaker 4:Yeah, atrium.
Speaker 1:A to the double L, A-N.
Speaker 4:Sorry, that's a.
Speaker 8:Spot off the roof.
Speaker 5:I don't like any of these ideas.
Speaker 4:Maybe it's only one L.
Speaker 8:I just want to be Alan.
Speaker 5:I'll give you this, right? If you can spell my name right now, then I will go out with you again.
Speaker 4:Oh, wow.
Speaker 8:Is that a challenge to Vanessa? It's a good point. At this point, she's seen it written out three times at three different Starbucks stores.
Speaker 1:I mean, and all you can really screw up is the L's on this one.
Speaker 4:I don't know.
Speaker 8:Nowadays, you can have an I in there.
Speaker 3:Yeah, there's E-N, there's A-N.
Speaker 2:You want me to spell your name? Like I said, I wasn't staring at the coffee cups the whole time. I was staring at you.
Speaker 6:Maybe if she could just tell you what your eye color is, it could prove that she really was paying attention.
Speaker 1:Oh, wow.
Speaker 5:No, we're not changing the test. You have to spell my name.
Speaker 4:Okay, well, this should be.
Speaker 8:It's a good opportunity for you, Vanessa. If you get his name spelled correctly, then we will send you guys out on a date and pay for it.
Speaker 1:Do we have one of those, like, game show timers to put on? Yeah, I feel like I'm on Jeopardy.
Speaker 8:Just go with your gut. If you really want him, you're going to spell it. If it's meant to be.
Speaker 1:This is, like, the best Spelling Bee Championship ever.
Speaker 8:All right, here we go.
Speaker 2:Oh, my gosh. Okay, deep breaths. I'm going to go with A-L-L-A-N.
Speaker 4:Oh, it's an A or an E. I feel like it's only.
Speaker 1:One L when there's an A, but the two L's with an E.
Speaker 8:Was it right?
Speaker 5:No, there's only one L.
Speaker 6:Ah!
Speaker 9:Oh, my God.
Speaker 4:Oh, darn it.
Speaker 1:Well, Vanessa.
Speaker 2:You said I was cute and you had a good time. We cannot ruin the whole thing just based on this mistake I'm making.
Speaker 4:She does have a point there. Other than that, there was nothing crazy that happened, right?
Speaker 1:That's pretty crazy. There's no red flag.
Speaker 2:You're like crazy good.
Speaker 6:I mean, you liked her so much you gave her one last shot at the coffee shop.
Speaker 5:I can't go back on the test, okay? I'll give you one more shot.
Speaker 8:What?
Speaker 5:One more chance to spell it.
Speaker 1:You just told me. Oh, yeah.
Speaker 8:Well, this should be easy.
Speaker 6:Go ahead.
Speaker 4:There you go.
Speaker 5:It's just a layup right now.
Speaker 2:I wasn't really listening to how you spelled it in the end. I was just listening to your voice.
Speaker 8:Oh, my God. Come on.
Speaker 3:Just do it.
Speaker 1:Spell it.
Speaker 8:Just spell it different than the way you did the first time.
Speaker 2:Yes. Okay, I'll change from what I did. I'm going to go with A-L-L-E-N.
Speaker 3:Oh, yeah.
Speaker 4:That's actually worse.
Speaker 2:I got it wrong again? How is this even possible?
Speaker 1:If only he went by Al.
Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 8:Man, if I had a nickel for every second date that didn't happen because somebody failed a spelling test live on the air.
Speaker 4:That's like, what.
Speaker 8:The sixth or seventh time that that's happened to us?
Speaker 4:I can't recall that, Jeff.
Speaker 1:What is her? I mean, like, I'm terrible at names.
Speaker 5:Mm-hmm.
Speaker 4:Oh, so am I. But how?
Speaker 1:How is that even possible?
Speaker 8:I don't blame her.
Speaker 4:I told you how to spell it.
Speaker 8:Alan is such a rare exotic name. I doubt anybody could spell it right. Even Alan himself probably messes it up on his own tax forms.
Speaker 3:You think that?
Speaker 1:Maybe he spelled it wrong?
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 4:Is it four or five A's?
Speaker 1:Yeah, let's blame him, Jeff.
Speaker 8:I mean, everybody else did.
Speaker 5:Yeah.
Speaker 4:I don't think so.
Speaker 8:No second date. And honestly, I don't think anybody was that sad about it.
Speaker 6:I like how Jose didn't think that not knowing his name was a big red flag.
Speaker 8:Did you know that? One tiny thing.
Speaker 1:I forget names all the time.
Speaker 8:That was funny. But yeah, no date for them. Doesn't mean we can't get a date for you, though. If you ever want to email the show, we'll call the person who isn't calling you back. You can check out all of our podcasts up wherever you get yours at Brooke and Jeffrey.
Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 8:They say people do stupid things in the name of love.
Speaker 1:Oh, isn't that true, Jeff?
Speaker 8:But normally, that's referring to after you've been dating them for a while. You say something crazy or chop off a body part and mail it to them, Vincent Van Gogh style.
Speaker 10:Dang!
Speaker 4:Would that fly nowadays?
Speaker 1:I mean, just one ear.
Speaker 8:Might as well try. But one of our listeners admits she did something stupid just to meet a guy.
Speaker 1:Oh.
Speaker 8:Was it her idea?
Speaker 9:No.
Speaker 8:Was it embarrassing? Yes. Was it effective in getting the guy's attention? I guess you'll have to find out when you hear what she did in your Second Date Update. Next.
Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 3:Second Date Update.
Speaker 8:Oh. I want to ask Alexis a dating question. But I know that she would never do this, so I'll ask a more uninhibited person. Brooke, in your single days, if there was a cute guy, how many times would you attempt to get his attention before you finally gave up and settled for his dad? what's the maximum number of times that you would go in.
Speaker 6:I'm not a subtle person so normally I would just approach the dude and start chatting with them and then if they've push me off, then I move on to the next dude.
Speaker 1:Physically have to push you off.
Speaker 6:I mean, if the next dude at the bar happened to be his dad, then so be it.
Speaker 8:Okay. You're a one strike and it's done type of policy.
Speaker 1:I mean, I take the hint.
Speaker 8:Okay.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's the best way to put it.
Speaker 8:Well, you're different than one of our listeners who admits that she had to try multiple times to get a cute guy's attention until it finally worked.
Speaker 5:Oh.
Speaker 8:So maybe we can all learn a lesson from her. Her name is Angie. So Angie, welcome to the show.
Speaker 10:Hi, thank you.
Speaker 1:It sounds like you're a more subtle lady than I.
Speaker 8:Or she's not.
Speaker 4:We're idiots. Like, you've really got to spell stuff out for us.
Speaker 8:Yeah, we don't know anything about this guy or how you met him, so tell us the whole story. Like, what's his name?
Speaker 10:His name's Jason, and I met him, like, just out at the bars with my friend a little while ago.
Speaker 8:Okay, and was his father with him, too, or was it just like a guy's night?
Speaker 10:It was a girl's night for me. I was there with a bunch of my girlfriends, but he was just there with like one other buddy of his.
Speaker 8:So you saw Jason come into the bar or how did it work?
Speaker 10:Yeah, I like noticed him come in. And when he did, I turned to my girlfriends and I was like, oh my gosh, he's so cute. They were like giving me suggestions on what I should do. So they were like, go order a drink like over near where they're at the bar.
Speaker 4:Maybe like if you can catch his eye.
Speaker 1:Or you can get a free drink. That's what I mean. Yeah, you gotta be in range. Yeah, yeah. That's what I mean.
Speaker 8:A lot of options for you.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 10:So I went up and I ordered like Right next to him, and I even, like, bumped into him so that I could apologize.
Speaker 4:Oh, my gosh.
Speaker 6:I mean, I would guess, I don't know because I'm not a dude, but I would guess that no matter what, he'd be flattered by all.
Speaker 1:Of this, right?
Speaker 2:Oh, yeah.
Speaker 10:Well, I would think so, but I guess he thought it really was an accident.
Speaker 8:Yeah, okay.
Speaker 1:Or he's not single.
Speaker 6:Like, you don't know that some random person across the bar is single.
Speaker 8:Okay, so that was strike number one, the attempt that didn't work.
Speaker 10:So I went back to my friends, and I was like, well, I guess he's not interested.
Speaker 8:I did all of what you said. I went to order a drink. I bumped him from behind, made him spill everywhere. Nothing's working.
Speaker 4:Get in the line. All of us bump into him.
Speaker 8:One after another. Okay. So what was your next try?
Speaker 10:Okay, so their next suggestion was, like, to go back up when I finish my drink and order another one, but this time order, like, next to his friend and start talking to his friend to see if I could make him jealous.
Speaker 1:Oh, you make him jealous. What are your girlfriends saying? Like, it sounds like an empty bar, and you're the only one going back. The empty bar visual does not help.
Speaker 4:After, like, the third time, they're like, this girl is a drinking problem. She should only order by herself.
Speaker 10:Well, the second time, the friend actually did start talking to me, but then I started to feel like he was interested in me.
Speaker 1:Backfiring.
Speaker 8:But maybe that would have made him a little bit more jealous if you had started making out with his friend. No.
Speaker 10:I don't want to get in a situation where I'm breaking bro code, you know?
Speaker 8:Yeah, totally.
Speaker 4:You're thinking right, actually. I like this.
Speaker 8:I mean, at what point do you ever get to a conversation with him, or does that even happen?
Speaker 10:Yeah, we're getting there. So I go back to the table and I'm like, okay, I really think he's like, doesn't care. And I'm drinking my drink and I'm getting a little tipsy because I drank the first one a little fast. And then they were like, okay, this is a dumb idea, but we think you should go up and fall.
Speaker 1:Fall?
Speaker 10:Like pretend to trip and fall next to him.
Speaker 6:Why are not any of your girlfriends just walking up for you and saying, look at that cute girl.
Speaker 1:She likes you.
Speaker 5:No, no, no.
Speaker 8:Have 20 drinks and fall in front of him.
Speaker 9:Then he'll love you.
Speaker 10:I'm not saying it was the best idea, but it was the one we.
Speaker 5:Came up with.
Speaker 8:Okay.
Speaker 4:Here we go.
Speaker 10:So I did that.
Speaker 8:And so did he notice you then?
Speaker 1:Or did he turn back around and just keep drinking.
Speaker 8:While you're on the floor?
Speaker 10:No, that time it worked. He noticed and he like got up and helped me up.
Speaker 4:I was going to ask if he helped you.
Speaker 8:What a hero.
Speaker 10:Yeah, he did.
Speaker 5:He did.
Speaker 8:He's a good guy.
Speaker 4:All right. So now this is your end. What do you say? What was your line?
Speaker 10:I was like, oh, sorry. I think I'm just a little bit tipsy. Like, I really need to sit down. Would you mind like walking me to a table? And he sat down with me just to like make sure I was OK. And we ended up talking for like 30 minutes. And by the end, we like had exchanged numbers. And I was like, yeah, I'm free next Friday. And he was like, OK, cool. I'll like text you.
Speaker 4:Oh, my God.
Speaker 1:Oh, wow.
Speaker 8:OK.
Speaker 4:Worked.
Speaker 10:Well, I thought it did. But then I never.
Speaker 5:Got a call.
Speaker 1:I still think that he could be in a relationship.
Speaker 4:No, you're right. He could have just done it to get her out of his way and he's never going to answer that.
Speaker 1:Like she said, she was a drunk girl falling in the bar.
Speaker 8:Brooke, do you give out your numbers to guys who ask for it drunkenly just out of kindness? No.
Speaker 4:If you're drunk, text right now, Brooke.
Speaker 1:I mean, it's so easy to block a number.
Speaker 4:Why not?
Speaker 6:I just think that if he's in a new relationship or something and whatever.
Speaker 4:No, you're right.
Speaker 1:And he doesn't call back.
Speaker 4:Yeah, that's a good point.
Speaker 8:And sorry. How long did you say it's been since this bar interaction?
Speaker 10:I think it's been like a week and a half.
Speaker 4:Still hazy. She may have got a concussion when she fell.
Speaker 8:Right, that hangover plus the bruising. You needed time to get yourself back together. So we'll get ourselves together. We'll come back. We'll call Jason for you, and we'll try to get you your second date update, even if we have to try three, four, 700 times to get him on the phone. He's willing to fall down. One of us will right after this.
Speaker 5:Hold on.
Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 3:Second date update.
Speaker 8:There's a reason they call it falling in love.
Speaker 6:Oh.
Speaker 8:Because sometimes you literally have to fall down in a bar to get a guy's attention.
Speaker 6:Wow.
Speaker 8:And that's what our listener Angie did on purpose to strike up a conversation with a guy named Jason.
Speaker 4:And it worked. Like, I'm laughing, but it worked. It did.
Speaker 8:It was actually her friend's idea to fake a tumble, but... It ended up starting the connection. He helped her up. They sat together for a while, just chatting and getting to know each other and checking for concussion symptoms. Wow.
Speaker 1:Let me check your pupils one more time.
Speaker 8:So romantic. After they exchanged numbers, there's really been no contact between Angie and Jason.
Speaker 1:God, he hasn't even called to check up on her.
Speaker 8:I know, what a jerk. And here's the thing, my plan going into this is not to tell him that the fall was just a ruse designed to get his attention.
Speaker 1:Duh, Jeff.
Speaker 8:I like being on the same page with you about this stuff.
Speaker 6:Yes.
Speaker 8:Okay?
Speaker 7:Nobody was going to mention it.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 8:I'm just clarifying.
Speaker 1:I know, but it's weird that you have to even say it out loud.
Speaker 8:Angie, are you okay with us not bringing up that it was done on purpose?
Speaker 5:I didn't even think that was an option.
Speaker 4:It wasn't.
Speaker 2:Don't worry. Okay.
Speaker 8:All the options are on the table. It's good that we're all on the same page, though, that we're not going to say that.
Speaker 5:Yes.
Speaker 8:You're not still hung up on one of your ex-boyfriends, right? Because I won't bring that up either.
Speaker 4:We don't bring it up.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 8:You're really lucky that I'm the one driving the car on this one because we're going to stay right in between those two lanes.
Speaker 1:I'm close to crashing into your car. Jeff's like, so should we bring up childhood traumas now?
Speaker 8:We always can.
Speaker 10:Only if I get a second date.
Speaker 8:That's a good stipulation.
Speaker 1:It's shocking that people still call it for our help.
Speaker 3:I know.
Speaker 4:It's got to be entertaining.
Speaker 8:We just know how to do this.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 8:I'm going to dial Jason. Let's see if he answers. Here we go.
Speaker 5:Hello?
Speaker 8:Hey, is this Jason?
Speaker 1:This is him.
Speaker 11:Who's this?
Speaker 8:Hey, man, we're actually a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 1:Hey, Jason. Hi.
Speaker 3:Welcome to the show.
Speaker 8:I'm Jeff.
Speaker 4:Yes. He's not Jason.
Speaker 1:So strong, Jeff.
Speaker 8:Of Brooke and Jeffrey.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 5:Hello? Yeah.
Speaker 8:Okay.
Speaker 2:Sorry.
Speaker 8:You're weird.
Speaker 10:My bad.
Speaker 8:Let me just tell you what we're calling about because this is a segment we do called A Second Date Update. We're trying to help out one of our listeners get in touch with you after you met recently at a bar.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 8:Girl named Angie.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:There was never any real first date.
Speaker 10:Yeah.
Speaker 8:You like helped her.
Speaker 11:I helped her get up off of the ground.
Speaker 10:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Right.
Speaker 6:That's the one.
Speaker 4:Ground girl.
Speaker 8:We're just calling her Angie. Cause that's her name. And, um, we know you didn't hang out for too long, but there was a little bit of a connection romantically, maybe between the two of you that night, maybe a little bit of a spark.
Speaker 1:Wait, did you just laugh?
Speaker 11:Yeah, yeah, I did laugh a little bit there.
Speaker 8:Okay.
Speaker 1:Oh, like a good laugh?
Speaker 8:Yeah. Why are you laughing?
Speaker 4:Romantic laugh?
Speaker 8:Yeah.
Speaker 11:Yeah, I don't know about having a romantic connection there.
Speaker 8:Okay, well, maybe that was a little bit strong, but she felt like that you guys were hitting it off, and there could be, and you exchanged numbers. She's a little bit confused that afterwards you haven't reached out to her at all. Um.
Speaker 11:I don't know what she remembers.
Speaker 5:Oh.
Speaker 4:She mentioned she had a couple drinks. Yeah.
Speaker 1:What did she do?
Speaker 2:Well, she fell.
Speaker 1:Well, I know that part.
Speaker 8:Yeah, we heard that.
Speaker 1:I'm talking about, it sounds like something embarrassing happened.
Speaker 4:That is embarrassing, Brooke.
Speaker 8:To most people. Brooke's like, I do that every time I walk in a restaurant. Was there more than the falling?
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 8:You know what it was?
Speaker 11:She was interested in me, and that's... interesting. So I was asking her questions about herself because I was open to the possibility.
Speaker 1:Oh, okay.
Speaker 8:There you go. So, I mean, it sounds like something changed your mind?
Speaker 11:Yeah. When I asked her, what makes you laugh? It took her a while to think of the answer.
Speaker 1:Well, that's a hard question. I wouldn't even know what to answer.
Speaker 11:Yeah, but I was helping her. I was giving her suggestions, different movies, TV shows.
Speaker 4:Oh, just list anything.
Speaker 8:And what did she say?
Speaker 11:Well, what makes her laugh is videos of little children falling down and getting hurt.
Speaker 8:No! I'm sorry.
Speaker 7:Isn't that what America's Funniest Home Videos used to be?
Speaker 4:One of the best Instagram pages is called The Kids Getting Hurt. Yeah. But not like really hurt.
Speaker 1:Was that a red flag to you?
Speaker 11:Yeah, that's a pretty strong red flag.
Speaker 6:And maybe she was trying to be funny because she had just fallen down, right?
Speaker 8:Let's not make excuses for her. Let's hear what is it about children falling down that's so off-putting.
Speaker 11:It wasn't just that she said, yeah, sometimes on Instagram I might see videos of kids falling down. It was that she had saved in her phone compilations.
Speaker 4:Oh, wait.
Speaker 11:And anytime she's got a bad day or had a long day, she comes home and opens these videos of kids falling down.
Speaker 6:Come on, I'm a mother of two and I approve.
Speaker 8:Jason, why is that like a big red flag to you that she finds humor in children falling?
Speaker 11:It's not one video. It's not a couple of videos. She has dozens of videos.
Speaker 1:Did you give the videos a chance? Did you watch any yourself? Yeah.
Speaker 11:I mean, she was trying to show them to me, but she couldn't get to them wherever they were. She had a head injury.
Speaker 8:From falling.
Speaker 4:She's laughing, trying to find him even.
Speaker 1:I think she was more drunk than concussed.
Speaker 8:Also drunk.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 4:The fall wasn't like.
Speaker 8:Jason, the good news is it sounded like you were genuinely concerned about Angie's well-being.
Speaker 10:Yeah.
Speaker 8:Checking in on her. And I'm happy to inform you that Angie is fully recovered, doing really well. In fact, she's on the other line of this phone call right now. Probably just laughing at the idea of children falling all over the place. But.
Speaker 10:I don't like them getting in. I'm not saying the injury part is funny, but like people falling is funny. And when they're little kids, like they're just more awkward.
Speaker 11:Yeah, but why do you have so many of them? You told me you have over a hundred videos.
Speaker 10:I mean, I just, if I see one and it makes me laugh, I save it for a bad day. And I just like, I don't know, they build up. It's not like I've been, that's the only thing I collect. It's just like one of the things that I will save.
Speaker 11:Yeah, but that's different than what you told me. You told me, The only thing you save are videos of them falling. You even said kids falling down stairs cracks you up the most.
Speaker 8:Oh, wait a minute.
Speaker 4:That's a gauge.
Speaker 1:That is such a niche genre.
Speaker 10:I mean, you asked me what made me laugh and I told you and now you're being super judgy about it.
Speaker 11:Well, I wasn't going to call back a monster who sits at home watching these videos.
Speaker 5:Oh, monster.
Speaker 6:Jason, you are not sounding very funny right now.
Speaker 10:Don't knock it till you try it. You wouldn't even watch one, so.
Speaker 2:How do you know?
Speaker 8:That's true, dude.
Speaker 4:You should go to their page. Go follow it.
Speaker 10:Like, I have this video of this little kid in his little ranger car, and he, like, drives into, like, this little ravine, and he.
Speaker 5:You know what I mean?
Speaker 10:Like, it's so funny.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 11:Driving a monster truck into a ravine. That's sick.
Speaker 1:Oh, come on.
Speaker 10:Well, I think I have my answer here.
Speaker 8:Yeah. I mean, just to be totally fair on this, we do need to offer Jason, we would send you on an official first date with Angie and we would pay for it if you're willing to give her a chance.
Speaker 5:Yeah.
Speaker 11:I don't think we're going to get along very well.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 8:Wow. I mean, what makes you laugh?
Speaker 11:Oh, I like classic clowns from the 70s.
Speaker 1:What?
Speaker 8:Clowns from the 70s?
Speaker 1:1970s clowns?
Speaker 10:You mean those things that terrorize children?
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 8:I mean, look, maybe you guys have more in common than you realize, Jason.
Speaker 1:I mean, there is a lot of slapstick and clown work.
Speaker 8:You see a kid get squirted in the face with a flower?
Speaker 11:Those aren't true clowns. That's sort of the downfall of clowns.
Speaker 6:Sounds like you like the French clowns.
Speaker 8:Well, if this whole thing is finished and you two aren't going to be going out, then I'm just going to come out and say it just so you know, Jason, Angie really is into falling, not just kids falling, but adults too. Because she orchestrated the whole falling thing just to meet you.
Speaker 11:Why would you do that?
Speaker 8:It's over. It's over. He's already said that he's not into it.
Speaker 1:What point are you trying to make?
Speaker 8:I'm just saying, she's really liking falling. That's her love language.
Speaker 11:That just adds another layer of weird to the whole thing.
Speaker 1:Don't say that.
Speaker 4:It got you two together for a little bit.
Speaker 1:She's the one who listened to our show, Jeff.
Speaker 8:Okay, let's bring a child in here and have them fall over to get you back on my side.
Speaker 3:I don't mind.
Speaker 10:I'm not interested in him anymore anyway. So yeah, I fell for you and I regret it.
Speaker 5:I think the question.
Speaker 8:That we really need to ask ourselves here is, How many videos of children falling can you save in your phone until it becomes a red flag? Is it 10 children, 100 children, 1,000 children falling?
Speaker 6:I think it's only a red flag if it's the same child falling over and over.
Speaker 1:Again and that child isn't yours.
Speaker 8:That's the only red flag.
Speaker 4:A child needs help.
Speaker 1:And it's all that you have on your phone.
Speaker 6:Right.
Speaker 4:You don't have any selfies.
Speaker 1:If it's different children, you're cool, man.
Speaker 8:That's a good point. I mean, it sounds like most people in this room were on Angie's side saying, it's funny. It shouldn't really be that big of a deal. It doesn't need to be a red flag.
Speaker 6:Jose took the time to look up the account he follows and over seven million.
Speaker 1:People follow the account about.
Speaker 4:Kids being hurt. Yeah, it is very popular.
Speaker 8:That's true.
Speaker 1:It was funny. I watched quite a few videos with Jose.
Speaker 8:I agree. I think they're all really funny. But maybe he had some sort of experience in his past where he fell as a child, drove his power wheels into like a koi pond. And that memory has stuck with him forever.
Speaker 1:Until the creepy clown cheered him up. Yes.
Speaker 3:Which made sense.
Speaker 4:He seems like a serious guy.
Speaker 7:I know.
Speaker 8:Thank God for Bozo and all of his weird clown antics.
Speaker 5:Oh, man.
Speaker 1:Makes sense that his buddy's name was Gary.
Speaker 8:Yeah. That checks out. So it didn't work out for the two of them. But it doesn't mean it can't work out for you and whoever you meet in the world. You can always email the show. We'll call that person who's not calling you back. And go check out all of our second dates. They're up online wherever you get your podcasts at Brooke and Jeffrey.
