The woman in today’s Second Date Update knows she didn’t give strong signals to the guy she’s interested. In fact, she stayed FAR AWAY from him the whole night! We’ll dig into why in your Second Date Update podcast! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Speaker 1:Oh, I cannot wait for you to hear the brand new second date episode that is about to begin.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:Oh, God. The reason our listener had to stay physically so far away from the guy on the date is just hysterical to me. Yeah. You can't beat it. So that's about to begin. But before we do it, thank you for being here on the official podcast for the second date update. And we love to highlight your comments. Yeah. I'm a little late on this one because you'll see why. Kendria said, hey, guys. This was a few days ago. This is the last Second Aid update I'll listen to for a year and a half. I'm serving a church mission for months. I can't wait to hear all the amazing Second Aid updates when I come home. Thank you for everything. I'll see you in April 2028.
Speaker 2:Girl.
Speaker 1:You can still listen to podcasts on a church mission, can't you?
Speaker 3:You got no Wi-Fi? What's going on?
Speaker 1:You won't get to hear this for two years.
Speaker 3:Yikes.
Speaker 1:Maybe we've actually been banned from all churches.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Not actually.
Speaker 4:What if puberty hits and my voice sounds different in two years?
Speaker 3:She's not going to recognize us.
Speaker 1:It's going to be exciting, though, for her.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 1:And for you. All right. Well, when you get here. Let's get your brand new episode starting right now.
Speaker 5:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Speaker 3:A lot of people will look back after a first date and ask themselves, What did I do wrong?
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:Every single time, Jeff. You go into specifics. Was it something I said? Something I did? Or in today's case, was it something I smelled?
Speaker 1:Uh-oh. Wait. Smelled like or just, yeah.
Speaker 3:Our listener, Lindsay, emailed saying she thinks a certain smell may have been working against her.
Speaker 2:Uh-oh.
Speaker 3:And she's now asking for our help. Lindsay, welcome to the show.
Speaker 5:Thanks.
Speaker 2:Hey, you guys.
Speaker 5:How are you?
Speaker 1:You don't have to be embarrassed. It's happened to all of us.
Speaker 5:I'm not sure about that.
Speaker 1:I think we're all thinking the same thing.
Speaker 3:I don't know.
Speaker 1:What's going on, Toots McGee?
Speaker 3:I'm sorry, Lindsay. I've worked with some very, very immature people on this show.
Speaker 1:That's what we're all thinking.
Speaker 3:Poop jokes.
Speaker 2:Great.
Speaker 1:Poop. It was just flatulence.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 3:So highbrow. Anyway, Lindsay, why don't you take us back to the beginning? Get us on track. Who is this guy? Where'd you meet him?
Speaker 5:Yeah, his name is Robert. I met him on the app. He's cute and funny. And he's just someone that I really wanted to meet. I was really excited.
Speaker 1:So you still had hope. You still had hope in your dating life.
Speaker 5:Yeah, well, you can't lose hope. But I wanted to impress him. So I tried this new body lotion. This lady at the store sold it to me. She said it would smell great.
Speaker 3:Oh, a new body lotion.
Speaker 1:That sounds wonderful.
Speaker 5:That's what you would think. You would think. But I put on too much and I didn't realize it until I was in the car. I smelled like a popcorn bucket.
Speaker 2:What?
Speaker 3:You smell like a bucket of buttered popcorn? I mean, it could be worse.
Speaker 5:No, I don't like to smell like food. And so I was very self-conscious.
Speaker 1:I bet you're in a state of panic when you realize, because I understand what you mean. Like you put something on and you're like, oh, that smells good. It'll fade. And then you get in the car and it's just like, whoa, that has not faded.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 5:You can't just like wipe it off. And so the plan was to get something to eat. And I thought, oh, we can't do that. And so I just said, why don't we play tennis instead?
Speaker 2:Whoa. Tennis?
Speaker 3:Oh, the whole activity. What?
Speaker 1:You should have gone the other way and taken him to a movie theater, and then we wouldn't know who smelled like popcorn.
Speaker 3:You're like, this popcorn is fresh.
Speaker 2:That would have been good.
Speaker 3:So instead of being indoors for your day, you decide to do an outdoor activity where you're very far away from each other and have no chance of exchanging smells. Oh, I didn't think of that.
Speaker 1:Girl, are you even dressed for this?
Speaker 5:I mean, I kind of was. I had like a little dress on, but he was like, oh, I'm not really dressed for this. But he still agreed. I did have a couple of rackets in my car. So we went to play some tennis. But then... I was sweating. And so then the sweat mixed with the buttery popcorn smell and like intensified it. Oh, wow.
Speaker 3:Extra salty butter.
Speaker 5:It was a bad smell. It was not good. I was really embarrassed.
Speaker 1:Did you bring it up to him at all?
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 3:Did you smell anything weird?
Speaker 1:I only ask because I can't imagine you're able to be yourself at any point during this date and have a good conversation because you're so self-conscious and in your head about it. Right.
Speaker 5:And so, no, I didn't say anything about it. I just like we went to go have some drinks and apps. And I was like, OK, well, maybe if he's smelling food, then he won't smell my popcorn smell. So I even tried to call ahead and get food on the table ahead of time. But that didn't work.
Speaker 1:Did he ever bring up smelling something strange or no?
Speaker 5:No, he never said anything about it. And I'm hoping that he didn't even notice.
Speaker 3:Well, there's a chance.
Speaker 1:He probably didn't. You were probably just being so weird the whole time and distant from him that he probably thinks that you don't even like him.
Speaker 5:That's possible because I didn't want to get close, you know?
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 3:But let's put the smells aside. Did you feel like you and Robert ever had a connection?
Speaker 5:Well, yeah, I did feel that way. And we talked about our lives and we talked about how we're both super busy and he's out of town sometime for business. And he said he has a cat and I love cats. And I said, you know, if you ever need anyone to stop by and feed your cat while you're away, I'd be happy to do that.
Speaker 1:Oh, that's a big invitation.
Speaker 5:Everything did seem positive, like we were going to hang out again. And I would have kissed him, but we didn't. I just didn't want to get that close.
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 1:How close did you get to him? Like, cause I am just imagining you always five feet away.
Speaker 5:No, I mean like right across the table or standing a few inches away. I mean, that would have been too weird. It's just, I texted him and told him I had a great time. I wanted to see him again. He said, sure. But then he never followed up and I've been checking in with him, but no response now for two weeks. And I just wonder like, if this is salvageable or if it was because of the smell or whatever, I just, I want some kind of closure, you know?
Speaker 1:You could have used the popcorn meme in that text thread and it would have been different, you know, the person eating the popcorn.
Speaker 3:If you would have put it out there.
Speaker 5:But then he might have thought, what is that about? Like, I don't even know if he really noticed.
Speaker 3:I know. I think you came across weird enough as it was.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:We could be the weird ones from this point on because now we get to call him and put the balls in his court, literally.
Speaker 1:Tennis balls.
Speaker 3:That's a smart reference that I just did there. You came to the right show, Lindsay, so we're going to come back.
Speaker 5:Okay. You be weird.
Speaker 3:We're going to do that when we call Robert for you and try to get you your second date update right after this.
Speaker 2:Hold on.
Speaker 5:Thank you. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Speaker 3:Welcome back to the Second Date Update. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. And we have a unique one today because one of our listeners, Lindsay, told us she put on way too much body lotion.
Speaker 5:A new one.
Speaker 3:And in her words, not mine, smelled like a buttery popcorn bucket.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 3:So mid-date, she decided to change it up and wanted to play tennis with her date, Robert, so that she could stay far away from him.
Speaker 4:It backfired.
Speaker 3:It totally backfired because when she started sweating from the tennis, it mixed with the buttery popcorn smell to create a whole new warm, salty, fervent smell.
Speaker 1:I mean, meanwhile, outside of the smell, he wasn't ready for tennis. He didn't come prepared for tennis. I imagine him on the other side of the court in like dress shoes and like cute jeans. Just try not to sweat.
Speaker 3:Which is good on him for being flexible. But eventually they did go out for drinks. And Lindsay thought there was enough of a connection where for sure they'd be hanging out again. But that hasn't happened. So now she's come to us asking why.
Speaker 1:Yeah. Well, I don't know if she's asking why. I think she's asking help.
Speaker 2:Yeah. I mean, no. Why? Why?
Speaker 5:I mean, to be honest, I don't because I tried to cover it up and he didn't say anything about it. So I really don't even know if that's the reason.
Speaker 3:Yeah, he never said anything.
Speaker 1:It could be avoiding being close to him, too.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Well, I mean, this this will indicate that you're obviously into him, us calling him. So that that will definitely be helpful.
Speaker 5:I hope so, and if I get another date, I'm not wearing that body lotion, I promise.
Speaker 3:I'm not wearing it now, are you? Because I kind of smell something.
Speaker 1:Just throw it away.
Speaker 3:Don't wear it anywhere, ever. You never know. At some point, you might need to smell like a bucket of popcorn. If they go to a movie date. Halloween costume, Brooke?
Speaker 5:No.
Speaker 1:No, girl.
Speaker 3:Yes, she's the popcorn inside of his bucket.
Speaker 1:The popcorn trick?
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:See, now Brooke's on the board. Anyway, we need to first get him to agree to go out on another date with you, so let's work on that first. I'm going to call him right now.
Speaker 2:Here we go. Hello.
Speaker 3:Hello, is this Robert?
Speaker 2:Speaking. Yo, hello, Robert.
Speaker 4:My name is Jose.
Speaker 1:Are you trying to have a deep voice off?
Speaker 2:Trying to match energy.
Speaker 1:I see, yeah. What's up, Robert? The whole show's here.
Speaker 3:Yo, good morning. I didn't tell him about the show yet.
Speaker 1:Oh, well.
Speaker 3:God, Jeff, do your job.
Speaker 2:Sorry.
Speaker 3:Sorry, I got excited. Robert, we're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Speaker 2:Did I win tickets or something?
Speaker 3:You sure did. But before we get to that, this is called a second date update. It's a segment that we do where if you've gone out with somebody and you're not getting a call back from them, you can reach out to our show and ask us to try to get a hold of them for you. And so we're doing that for a woman that you went out with named Lindsay.
Speaker 2:Oh. Wow. Okay.
Speaker 1:Yeah it's weird well you kind of fell off with her right like you didn't you didn't hit her back and she had expressed wanting to see.
Speaker 2:You again Yeah, there's some stuff going on there.
Speaker 3:Well, we want you to tell us about it because Lindsay says it's been two weeks since your last hangout. There hasn't been a whole lot of communication since then, and she's not sure why.
Speaker 1:We know a little bit.
Speaker 3:We do, but we want to get your side of it.
Speaker 2:Okay. First off, we had a really good time. Oh, you did? Yeah. We had a good time, yes.
Speaker 1:She told us how you kind of surprised, how she kind of surprised you with the tennis idea.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I mean, but I chalked that up to spontaneity. I figured, okay, she's spontaneous. It's one of the things I liked about her because she was just switching up on me.
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 2:I mean, I was wearing work clothes, but we played and it was fun.
Speaker 3:Nice.
Speaker 1:So that was like a positive moment on the date for you?
Speaker 2:Yeah, but here's the thing. Like, there was something. I couldn't figure it out at the time. There was something about her that I knew her from somewhere.
Speaker 1:Oh.
Speaker 2:You know what I'm saying? You ever get that feeling like you know somebody, you met them before?
Speaker 1:That's weird, because she didn't feel that way about you. I mean, she didn't mention anything to us about... Feeling like you two had met prior.
Speaker 2:All I can say is we was vibing. We was vibing. We, you know, we went and got some food after we played tennis or whatever. And I planned to see her again. Like, I had every intention to see her again. But.
Speaker 1:Really?
Speaker 2:Later that night, it hit me, bro.
Speaker 5:Uh-oh.
Speaker 2:What? What are you? I knew I'd seen her before. You know this TikTok show? It's where people be squatting in houses and shit? I'm sorry. I'm like.
Speaker 1:That's okay.
Speaker 3:You're good, man. We want 20 more of those as you go.
Speaker 1:Did you say house squatters, like where they go in and they just take over a home and pretend like it's theirs?
Speaker 2:No, and the dude who owns the house, he has to send somebody in there to basically push them out. Yeah. Bro. She was on the show.
Speaker 1:As someone who owned a house that had a squatter in it?
Speaker 2:No, no, she was squatting. What?
Speaker 3:Wait, what?
Speaker 1:Wait, were you able to actually find the TikTok you were thinking of?
Speaker 2:I got it on my phone right now. I will text it to you right now. I'm telling you. She wouldn't leave this dude's house.
Speaker 3:Okay. So she's TikTok famous and that's why you're not in there?
Speaker 1:Intelligent when it comes to the law, Jeff.
Speaker 3:Okay, well, listen, we're jumping to a lot of conclusions here. This is all a legend.
Speaker 2:She's a scammer, bro. She's a scammer.
Speaker 3:That's what you think. We don't know that. I haven't seen the episode that you're talking about.
Speaker 1:And not everything you see on TikTok is real either.
Speaker 2:Bro, give me your number right now, and I will give me your Instagram.
Speaker 3:I will forward it to you.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 3:You're very heated. The thing is, we should at least ask Lindsay about this, and we can do it because she's on the phone with us right now waiting to talk to you. Swatting on the other line. Well, I didn't want to say that, but yeah. Lindsay, are you there?
Speaker 5:Oh, my God. This is so embarrassing.
Speaker 1:Wait.
Speaker 2:Wait. Wait.
Speaker 1:Lindsay, you know what he's talking about?
Speaker 5:Yeah, but it was all a misunderstanding. I can explain this.
Speaker 2:I told you you were a scammer. You're a scammer. I'm telling you. No, no, no. I'll tell you right now.
Speaker 5:Do you want to let me explain?
Speaker 3:Robert, hold on. She says that there's an explanation for it. What happened, Lindsay? You're really on the show?
Speaker 5:Yes. My mom owns the house. It's a rental house that I'm staying in. And we just disagreed on how much rent I should pay. And she wanted to embarrass me by teaching me a lesson. I can't believe she did that.
Speaker 3:That was your mom?
Speaker 5:It's so stupid.
Speaker 1:Yes. I'm not a squatter.
Speaker 2:Why wouldn't you leave when they asked you to leave when that dude showed up with the truck and he asked you to leave and you wasn't leaving?
Speaker 5:You understand my mother owns the house. This is just all so stupid. I'm not one of those squatters.
Speaker 2:I don't believe that for one second, though.
Speaker 1:I don't really even understand it.
Speaker 5:I didn't think she should even charge me rent at all. What? I mean, I'm her daughter. I can't believe she did this, you know? I'm not a squatter. I'm her own kid. I can see that. Hold on.
Speaker 3:Brooke, you charge your children to stay in your house, right?
Speaker 1:Well, starting in first grade.
Speaker 3:Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1:Like, I don't get what you're saying. So you're living rent-free in your mom's house?
Speaker 5:No, not rent-free. We disagreed on the amount.
Speaker 1:Okay, and so then she contacted this TikTok dude who does squatters and lied to him. Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 5:To teach me a lesson and embarrass me.
Speaker 3:I don't think you have to lie. You can say, I own the house, my daughter won't leave, get her out of there.
Speaker 2:So what's that say to you? Your own mom's is doing that.
Speaker 5:Well, I think it says more about her and what a terrible mom she is. Like, would you do that to your own kid? Wow.
Speaker 3:But Robert, I mean, listen, sure, you saw her on the episode of Squatters, but are you hearing her story? Does that change how you feel about her?
Speaker 2:No, you know what it makes me think about? It makes me think about what she's trying to offer me on the date. Because I told her I got a cat and I be out of town a lot. And she said she volunteered to just come and be my cat for me.
Speaker 1:Oh, wow.
Speaker 2:Oh, right.
Speaker 3:That did come up.
Speaker 2:She ain't going to leave my crib, though. Nah.
Speaker 3:I ain't with you. Lindsay, was the whole cat thing just a ploy to get to squat at his place?
Speaker 5:No, not at all.
Speaker 1:I don't know, Lindsay. It struck me as odd that you would offer that to somebody that you don't know.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 5:It's not squatting if I'm taking care of the cat and he's out of town and I stay there maybe two or three nights. That's not squatting.
Speaker 3:Oh. a live-in cat sitter sort of situation.
Speaker 1:They don't want that.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 2:So it's time for you going there to feed it to you staying over there. You see what I'm talking about?
Speaker 5:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I'm starting to. You going over there to just throw the ball to you maybe changing some letters and now you sleeping, you sleeping in my bed like when I'm not there. Come on, y'all. I won't go last night, sweetheart. You ain't getting me like that.
Speaker 3:You jumped right to having her in your bed, which must mean, Robert, that there's some feelings happening there. And that's why I would love to offer to send you and Lindsay out on one more date, and we would pay for it.
Speaker 2:No, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3:No, no. Definitely got to beat that one. I did not see that coming.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 5:Anyway, I think we're done, right?
Speaker 3:Yeah, I think it's safe to say this isn't going to happen between you two.
Speaker 1:And, I mean, good luck, Lindsay. I'm pretty sure this is how Kris Jenner got the Kardashians started, right?
Speaker 2:Squatted?
Speaker 1:No, just awkward videos released onto the internet.
Speaker 3:Oh, yeah. We feel lucky to know you, Lindsay. You're going to be a star.
Speaker 5:Thank you.
Speaker 3:Oh, man, we never even really got to talk to him about the whole popcorn smell. Well, I think.
Speaker 2:That's a good thing, though.
Speaker 4:It never came up, and that means it wasn't an issue.
Speaker 1:But what if the smell wasn't lotion? What if she was squatting and they were just eating a lot of popcorn? Oh, Brooke is worried.
Speaker 3:Maybe.
Speaker 1:I still don't trust her.
Speaker 3:I feel like it actually would have helped if we would have told Robert that. He might have actually been into it. a popcorn smelling squatter because then his apartment would smell really nice when she's staying in it for.
Speaker 1:A while he wouldn't be invited back in that's the thing with the squatting situation.
Speaker 3:Yeah there's some victories in there and some losses well at least you know.
Speaker 4:When she's in the house like if it doesn't smell like popcorn you know she stepped out.
Speaker 1:So much upside she needs to clear this up before every other date from here on out okay you.
Speaker 3:Know yeah And unfortunately, it didn't work out for her, not with the smell or with the squatting or any of it, but it can always work out for you if you email the show. We'll call that person who's not calling you back. So don't forget to subscribe to the podcast, by the way, at Brooke and Jeffrey, which you can listen to on your computer, on your iPad, your smart speaker, and yes, even your phone. Yeah. Jose, didn't you just get a new phone?
Speaker 4:Oh, yeah, and it was so much less stressful.
Speaker 3:Than I thought it would be.
Speaker 1:Really?
Speaker 4:Well, because there's like a thing that I call switching therapy I think people need. You know when you're panicking like you're going to buy a new phone, but you don't want to lose your pictures or your numbers.
Speaker 2:Or your videos.
Speaker 1:You're like, it says everything's on the cloud, but do I believe it? I don't know.
Speaker 4:Well, thanks to Samsung and Smart Switch, it makes it super easy to get a new phone. It's literally like you have.
Speaker 5:Your old phone.
Speaker 1:It's crazy. It's your old phone, but it's better.
Speaker 3:But with all the new features of your new phone.
Speaker 1:And your new phone is actually really sweet.
Speaker 4:Yeah, I got the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. And it not only impressed me, it not only impressed Brooke.
Speaker 1:It did impress me.
Speaker 3:You know who it impressed?
Speaker 2:Who?
Speaker 3:My barber, Kelly. What?
Speaker 4:Okay, so you guys know I do social media videos all the time, and I do content for my local barber. So Kelly has seen me do video after video on my phone.
Speaker 1:It's all I watch at home. I'm like, I only spent eight to nine hours with Jose today. I am going to go home and watch his videos as well.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's like my version of Stranger Things is watching Jose use his phone.
Speaker 1:No, your videos are really cool.
Speaker 2:They are.
Speaker 4:No, but the thing is, it's not about the videos themselves. I sit down in the chair, and I prop up my new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. And Kelly's jaw dropped.
Speaker 3:She literally gasped. She's like, what is that?
Speaker 4:I'm like, well, that is my new Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Speaker 3:Aren't you fancy?
Speaker 4:So she's like, did you just fold it open?
Speaker 3:I'm like, yes, it folds open.
Speaker 4:It's the shape of a passport when I want it to be. When I need to put it in my pocket, when I want to scroll through little things. But when it's time to work... do content, or if I just want more space or a bigger screen, you unfold it with ease and you can't even see the line in the middle.
Speaker 1:No, it's pretty sweet.
Speaker 2:It's the future.
Speaker 1:It's really light, too. I thought it was going to be really heavy.
Speaker 3:Yeah, no, it's amazing.
Speaker 4:Thanks to MultiView. On one side of my screen, we can have my Instagram open, and the other side, you can have the video open. Then when it's time to edit, right?
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 4:One side of my screen, I can do all my editing, and then I can start opening other apps and grabbing the video, grabbing the.
Speaker 1:Pictures, grabbing things, sliding them.
Speaker 4:It is like having a mini just.
Speaker 1:A mini computer. That's the word.
Speaker 3:It's a computer. But it's a phone. But it's a phone.
Speaker 1:That's sweet.
Speaker 3:That's incredible.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I love it.
Speaker 4:And again, I don't care what you have, what brand, whatever you're worried about, Smart Switch will help you so much. Literally, I didn't have to focus on anything but having fun with my new phone and learning the new features.
Speaker 1:Okay, so don't be scared to switch over to a Samsung Galaxy. Is that what you're telling me?
Speaker 3:No, do not be scared.
Speaker 4:Get the new Galaxy Z Fold 8. Okay, I promise you it's going to be easier, the phone and the process of switching.
Speaker 3:All of it's easy.
Speaker 4:Find the Galaxy Foldable that's right for you at Samsung.com.
Speaker 2:Switch easier.
Speaker 4:Require smart switch running on the latest operating system. For limitations and more info, see Samsung.com slash smart switch.
