Speaker 1:I always start these with saying, like, all right or ooh or something.

Speaker 2:So, Ashton, take it away. Give me a new intro.

Speaker 3:Ooh.

Speaker 4:Ha-cha-cha.

Speaker 2:Ooh, I like that. Oh, now that is cool.

Speaker 5:Yeah.

Speaker 6:Oh, man.

Speaker 1:And we got some back-to-back classics for you today.

Speaker 5:Not all the guys are distracted.

Speaker 2:Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 2:Back to back classics.

Speaker 1:But in the meantime, this weekend, go check out our YouTube at Brick and Jeffrey. Digital Jake is putting up some compilation videos.

Speaker 7:They've been so great.

Speaker 3:Yes.

Speaker 5:A lot of phone tap ones.

Speaker 1:And if you have any suggestions of what you want to see put together for 30 minutes, let us know.

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 7:Maybe a compilation of you opening the podcast.

Speaker 2:With your positivity.

Speaker 8:Oh, you're right.

Speaker 3:Oh. Aura.

Speaker 7:Cha-cha compilation.

Speaker 9:That's right.

Speaker 5:Look for those. Hot cha-cha.

Speaker 7:Now we're talking.

Speaker 2:I'll suggest that to Digital Jake. And in the meantime, here's your classics.

Speaker 5:All right. Don't act like I don't know what you all say about me as soon as I walk away.

Speaker 4:What?

Speaker 7:Uh-oh, who left the mics on?

Speaker 2:We don't say anything.

Speaker 5:I know you do. You're like, oh, I feel so sorry for Jeff. He's so terrible at small talk. Oh, poor Jeffrey. He's so freaking handsome and talented, but he can't hold a normal conversation.

Speaker 7:I say that one a lot, Jeff.

Speaker 5:Yeah, well, jokes on all you fools.

Speaker 4:Oh, really?

Speaker 5:Because I'm about to become the life of every party going forward. And it's all thanks to our listener who came up with one of the cleanest, and most fun icebreaker questions we've ever heard.

Speaker 7:Oh, the icebreaker.

Speaker 2:Okay, Jeff.

Speaker 5:So clutch it even got him a date with a beautiful woman.

Speaker 3:Oh.

Speaker 5:I'm not interested in any of that stuff. But all of the fun at the parties, that's going to be me. You're going to hear what it was.

Speaker 1:You've got to get invited to them, Jeff.

Speaker 5:It's coming up in your second date update right after this.

Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 4:Second date update.

Speaker 5:We obviously have heard about people meeting on dating apps or during activities like a run club or hopscotch karaoke classes.

Speaker 2:You do it all at the same time?

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 5:It's really fun, really challenging. But kind of a more old school thing that's been around and it's making its way back again is singles events.

Speaker 3:Oh, yeah.

Speaker 10:You know?

Speaker 6:I've been really into Love on the Spectrum, the show, and they do all sorts of speed dating on that show.

Speaker 3:Cute.

Speaker 5:And you are doing the singles events, too.

Speaker 6:Right?

Speaker 3:No. Oh, no.

Speaker 5:Okay. But apparently they are still a thing, because one of our listeners went to one recently, and he needs our help today. His name is Trey. So, Trey, hey, thanks for emailing in. Welcome to the show.

Speaker 3:Hey, guys. Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 5:Well, thank you for thanking us for having you.

Speaker 6:Was this the first singles, mingle, or whatever they called it that you've ever done?

Speaker 3:No, so I've actually been to a couple of them. I am really anti like the dating apps and I'm much more on making like a human connection.

Speaker 5:Yeah, and it's way harder to lie about yourself when you're meeting people in person. You can still pull it off, trust me, but it's harder.

Speaker 7:What do you mean I'm not six feet? I'm sitting right.

Speaker 5:In front of you. Okay, so how did it go?

Speaker 3:So the last one I went to, it was a little weirder because there's a ton of guys there. And usually it's a good, like, 50-flip-D mix. But it was definitely more of, I guess you would traditionally call it more of a sausage fest.

Speaker 4:As it were.

Speaker 7:Yeah, more guys replied to the emails when they set them up than anything.

Speaker 2:Sounds like whoever was producing it screwed up.

Speaker 7:You know?

Speaker 2:Because that's like the whole point of those. Or they hold it at a sports bar. You have to have like a cutesy bar.

Speaker 7:If it was at a sports bar, I'd be a little more excited than just like a regular.

Speaker 5:Total. I never thought about the venue playing a role in that. I mean, now you're working at a disadvantage if there's more guys than girls.

Speaker 3:Yeah, I mean, it can be a little competitive, you know, which is not really like what you want the vibe to feel like. I don't want to be looking at the time and be like, oh, I wonder if this guy's going to have a better answer than me. Yeah.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 6:Did you come in with like a certain question you like to ask that's intriguing and good combo starter?

Speaker 3:Okay, I'll let you guys tell me how good of a question it is. So you're familiar that we only have young Sheldon because Big Bang Theory exists. If you could have any young character show, who would you want to see a young version of?

Speaker 7:That's a great question.

Speaker 6:Like we're getting the new Harry Potter series about young, young Harry Potter.

Speaker 5:What about the Cosby show? Is that a good answer?

Speaker 7:Oh, young Bill.

Speaker 5:Young, young.

Speaker 6:No.

Speaker 7:He's actually eating pudding because his mom gave it to him?

Speaker 2:To see what went wrong. I would not go with that one, Jeff.

Speaker 5:Okay.

Speaker 3:My funny answer to that is young George Costanza, because then you still get a little Jerry.

Speaker 6:Oh, that is funny.

Speaker 2:But he's somehow- New York George. He's somehow still bald.

Speaker 5:That sounds like a really good icebreaker. How did the mingling actually go?

Speaker 3:So it didn't go great. Like I said, there was a lot of people. It was just hard to find time to get any face time with everybody because everyone's just moving so quickly. And at a certain point, the host of the event came over and mentioned to me like, hey, I really appreciate you coming out. But then had this like very weird backhanded comment of, I know you're not as attractive as some of the other guys here.

Speaker 9:Oh, no.

Speaker 6:Wild.

Speaker 5:The organizer of the event said that to you?

Speaker 2:Was it a guy or a girl?

Speaker 3:It was a girl and she was like, I know what a great personality you have because you've seen me at other events.

Speaker 9:You know, there's no defending that, but if she sees like a thousand daters a week and she's just being, she may just in her head have spoken out loud.

Speaker 5:Yeah, or if she is also single, maybe she was trying to neg you a little bit. I don't think that. Women do that, right?

Speaker 2:I think being called ugly usually makes me feel good.

Speaker 5:I know.

Speaker 2:How did you get back in there after that? My confidence would have been deflated.

Speaker 4:Yeah, it didn't feel great.

Speaker 5:Not to rush you through this story, but. We are going to be calling somebody. You did meet a woman eventually, right?

Speaker 3:Yeah, so that takes me to the next part. So later in the event, a couple of other, like, girls walked in.

Speaker 9:It was late.

Speaker 3:It was nice because some of the people had already kind of matched, so I had a little bit better of an ink.

Speaker 10:Okay.

Speaker 5:That's right, man.

Speaker 3:And that's when I started connecting with Steph.

Speaker 2:Steph?

Speaker 5:Steph, okay.

Speaker 3:Yeah, Steph. She was great. We chatted for like 15 minutes one-on-one. I asked her out. Okay. Of course, I knocked out which young show would you want to see. Hers was Young, It's Always Sunny, which I think is a perfect answer.

Speaker 7:Oh my gosh, a baby Charlie Day?

Speaker 2:Which means she's funny.

Speaker 7:Yeah. You know what I mean? And it's dark humor.

Speaker 2:Yeah, she likes humor.

Speaker 5:That's great.

Speaker 3:Yeah, I mean, you guys are correct. So then we set up a date a week later. We met at this, like, really cool wine bar that's near my.

Speaker 9:Oh, you did meet.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 3:Yeah, I mean, had a few drinks, but right at, like, the hour mark, she was like, well, I have to go and just kind of cut it off, which caught me off guard because I kind of was locked in for the evening. I was like, great. We hit the wine bar. Down the road, this really incredible taco joint that I love going to. I thought it would be, like, a fun, like... Whole night.

Speaker 5:Yeah, wine and tacos. Perfect combination.

Speaker 7:Dude, honestly. It actually is.

Speaker 6:Just because it was right on the hour mark, it sounds like maybe she, like, read something somewhere that's like, oh, don't let your date go more than an hour.

Speaker 2:You know what I mean? I don't know.

Speaker 5:I mean, my head first went to if she's doing these speed dating events with him, maybe there's multiple other guys that she matched with and had a whole.

Speaker 2:That's not a bad idea either, Jeff.

Speaker 5:It's a common thing to have, like, kind of a rotation, a roster now. And then, like, a date date.

Speaker 7:You just knock them all out.

Speaker 5:Exactly.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 5:How long ago did that date happen?

Speaker 3:That was about a week ago. All right.

Speaker 2:And you haven't heard from her at all?

Speaker 3:No, she hasn't gotten back. And I'm also not someone that's going to like triple text someone like, you know, I give the space to respond.

Speaker 7:You are self-aware. That is crazy on this show, dude.

Speaker 5:Yeah, that never happens. So let's come back. We're going to call Steph for you. Try and get you a second date update. In the meantime, if you like younger versions, you can go back and listen to old stuff from our podcast. Hear a little bit younger versions of us. Younger Jeffrey.

Speaker 2:We're never older on the podcast, are we?

Speaker 5:No, we're not. But we'll do it with your second date update right after this.

Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 4:Second date update.

Speaker 5:If you're just joining us, we've been talking to Trey about his date with a woman named Steph. They met at a singles mixer where he learned Steph likes the show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Speaker 7:Which is why I yelled yes.

Speaker 5:Sorry, I like this song. So naturally for their date, he took her out not to an Irish bar, but to a wine bar.

Speaker 2:I thought you were going to say.

Speaker 7:Oh, I should have been Irish.

Speaker 5:No, it's smart. Don't give women everything they want right up front. Make them work for it.

Speaker 2:Just do a dumpster behind the.

Speaker 5:That would have worked just as well.

Speaker 2:That would be more always sunny to me.

Speaker 5:But at the one hour mark, Steph kind of called it all of a sudden, almost like she was timing the date. Yeah. So kind of a strange end to it. And Trey, here's the deal. If we are able to get her to answer, you know we're going to talk to her about your actual date and probably about the night you two met. So I need to ask you, is it totally off limits for us if it comes up to tell her about the host of the singles mixer calling you unattractive?

Speaker 2:Why in the world would we mention that?

Speaker 5:I'm just saying, if it comes up.

Speaker 2:The date wasn't even part of that conversation. Why would it come up?

Speaker 7:So it won't come up then?

Speaker 5:Okay, yeah, I'm sure it won't. This is great.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 5:Brooke is worried.

Speaker 2:I don't trust Jess. I don't either, Alexis.

Speaker 3:Listen, I'm fine with bringing it up because I'd be curious to hear what she would say in response to that comment.

Speaker 5:You know we're all together we're a team on this let's all put our hands in on three one two three ugly, okay.

Speaker 6:I will say right now that there are many people out there that may not be beautiful the first meeting But then they get more attractive the more you know them God.

Speaker 5:You hear her voice doesn't believe It's not gonna come up I won't say.

Speaker 10:It.

Speaker 5:Here we go.

Speaker 3:There's a reason why you guys are my favorite show.

Speaker 5:God, I hope it's not this.

Speaker 7:It's entertaining, I guess.

Speaker 5:We'll see. Okay, I'm going to dial her number. Here we go. Let's see if Steph answers.

Speaker 10:Hello?

Speaker 5:Hey, is this Steph?

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 9:Hey.

Speaker 3:Wow.

Speaker 5:I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:I'm all uncomfortable.

Speaker 5:Fonz is on the show with us today.

Speaker 6:That is a reference that no one under the age of 50 knows.

Speaker 5:It's fine. We're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Steph, are you still there?

Speaker 6:Yeah. Okay.

Speaker 2:Hi, Steph.

Speaker 5:As you can tell, we're a really fun, jokey type of show, but we do get serious a little bit with this segment that we do. It's called the Second Date Update.

Speaker 10:Okay.

Speaker 2:Not clicking.

Speaker 5:Yeah.

Speaker 8:Explain it, maybe.

Speaker 5:Maybe you explain it.

Speaker 2:Oh, okay.

Speaker 6:Well, Steph, you met a great guy who you went out with, and now he wants another date, and you aren't calling him back.

Speaker 10:Who's this guy you're talking about?

Speaker 2:I'm really bad with names that I forgot to write.

Speaker 5:Oh, no, back to Jeff.

Speaker 2:I forgot to write his name down.

Speaker 5:It's okay. Pass the baton to me. The guy's name is Trey.

Speaker 2:That's what I was going to say, Trey.

Speaker 7:Okay, back to Brooke.

Speaker 2:Do you remember Trey?

Speaker 4:Yeah, I do.

Speaker 10:Yeah, I feel kind of bad about that one.

Speaker 5:Oh. Oh, you do?

Speaker 10:Oh.

Speaker 5:Well, we heard about the date that you two went on to the wine bar. And from Trey's description of it, it was a really nice time. So he's a little bit just confused now that there hasn't been a second meetup, no follow-up afterwards.

Speaker 2:Well, maybe that's why she feels bad. Is that why you feel bad, Steph?

Speaker 4:Honestly, I don't even know if I should be telling you about this because it's kind of embarrassing.

Speaker 10:I feel weird about it.

Speaker 5:Is it embarrassing for you, or is it embarrassing for Trey?

Speaker 4:I guess potentially for everyone.

Speaker 10:I don't know.

Speaker 5:Okay. Here's the deal. Whenever we have listeners on this segment... They acknowledge that there may be some awkwardness, some difficult truths that they have to hear. And Trey just wants to know the honest reason there hasn't been a second meetup, no matter what.

Speaker 4:Okay, well, I mean, I guess I can tell you.

Speaker 5:It would really help him out.

Speaker 6:Yeah.

Speaker 4:Basically, I'm friends with some of the people that organize these singles events.

Speaker 2:Are you kidding me?

Speaker 3:Oh, no.

Speaker 4:I mean, this one particular night, you know, they didn't quite have enough people there. Specifically, they didn't really have a lot of women.

Speaker 8:Oh.

Speaker 6:He had actually mentioned that about the speed dating night that you guys met, that there was a lot of guys.

Speaker 5:Then there was, like, another wave.

Speaker 10:Yeah.

Speaker 4:That would be because sometimes they give people, like, 30 bucks to just show up and, like, kind of mingle with everybody.

Speaker 10:Fill it out. Oh.

Speaker 5:Well, you went on a second date after that.

Speaker 2:That's true. That was a very good point.

Speaker 5:Were you paid to go out with him on the second date?

Speaker 7:No.

Speaker 10:No, not at all.

Speaker 4:It was just the initial kind of speed dating thing with everybody.

Speaker 10:But I just kept thinking.

Speaker 4:The whole time, like, this continues to go well. We're going to have to have a conversation about.

Speaker 10:How I answered the picture initially. And I just.

Speaker 4:Feel horrible about that because I don't want him to take it the wrong way.

Speaker 2:I'm confused, though. Were you interested in him or were you not?

Speaker 6:Because it sounds like you went out to the wine bar just for an ego boost is what I'm picking up.

Speaker 10:That was part of it.

Speaker 4:But, I mean, he's really cute. He's really nice.

Speaker 11:Okay.

Speaker 4:Anyone would be lucky to, like, go on a date with him.

Speaker 5:Are you sure he's really cute? Like, how cute is he?

Speaker 3:Jeffrey!

Speaker 5:It's a good chance for you to tell us how.

Speaker 2:Cute he is.

Speaker 5:Okay, I'm fine.

Speaker 2:He is cute.

Speaker 5:I'll back off. He's adorable. So where is your head at now, Steph? Because... According to him, you're not reaching out to him anymore. That sends the signal that you're not interested.

Speaker 10:Well, I don't know.

Speaker 4:Sometimes I'm just really non-confrontational, and I really, really didn't want to have that conversation where I'm like, oh, hey, I was paid to... meet you and... So then you're never going.

Speaker 7:To get into a relationship with this great guy because you don't.

Speaker 2:Want to have a talk with him? That's kind of bad news.

Speaker 9:Were you just paid to go to the event?

Speaker 5:But initially, that's how they met. Like, she was paid money to go there and meet him.

Speaker 2:Not him specifically, though.

Speaker 7:No, just anybody, just to be there.

Speaker 5:Sure, anybody, but anyone finding out the person they really like was paid to meet them. That's not going to feel good. It is cute. I hear you that you're worried about having that conversation with him down the line somewhere. It could be awkward, but... The good news is we already got it out of the way.

Speaker 2:Like a bandaid ripped it right off.

Speaker 5:Because he's actually on the other line listening to this right now.

Speaker 10:No, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 4:Please do not say that to me.

Speaker 5:I can't not say that to you because the truth is he is.

Speaker 3:Oh, my God.

Speaker 7:Should be at least.

Speaker 3:Hey, how's it going, Steph?

Speaker 4:Trey, I'm really sorry you had to find out like this.

Speaker 10:This is pretty strange.

Speaker 3:I totally understand the awkwardness of not wanting to, like, Mention how you ended up at said event. Obviously I was there as a participant, but I think whatever the love story ends up being, it doesn't matter the origins. It's more about how it ends up.

Speaker 5:Okay. So Trey, you're not offended at all or put off by the fact that she was paid that night to be there.

Speaker 3:Honestly not. That's kind of up to the organizer. I mean, she's got bodies there. However they get there, as long as we're continuing to, like, have a conversation and it's not all being paid to continue such conversations.

Speaker 6:If anything, you should feel guilty, Steph, that you took the money since you met somebody at the event.

Speaker 5:You know what I mean? You should pay him $ 30 to make it even, and now he knows you really like him for him.

Speaker 2:I was just going to have her give the money back to the organizer.

Speaker 5:I was thinking that. You owe your friends. You can always send it to us, too. I mean, we can always use 30 bucks. But Steph, what do you think about what he just said there?

Speaker 10:I don't know. I just, I enjoyed your company. I enjoyed talking with you.

Speaker 2:That's nice.

Speaker 7:Cute.

Speaker 4:I just got, like, nervous. And like I said, I was too in my head about the conversation we were going to have to have.

Speaker 7:But it's all out there now.

Speaker 5:Yeah, and I feel some positive momentum happening. We've got some of that awkward conversation out of the way.

Speaker 2:And you don't even realize it, Steph. You're really good at conversation.

Speaker 6:You gave the best answer to his TV show question out of the entire night.

Speaker 10:Yeah, we loved it.

Speaker 5:And that's why... This is going to be kind of tricky because I want to offer to send you on another date and tell you we'd pay for it. But then it's like I'm paying her to show up to the date.

Speaker 2:I see where we're at.

Speaker 5:Ben is a charity at this point. Yeah, I'm not going to offer to pay for you guys to meet up, but we will strongly encourage you to get back together. How does that sound?

Speaker 3:Honestly, I don't want this to be more confused or muddled by money being involved. I'd love for it to kind of feel more organic and genuine. Wow.

Speaker 7:Ours isn't money.

Speaker 2:It's more like Applebee's gift card.

Speaker 5:Yeah. Still, though.

Speaker 3:So, Steph, will you go out with me again? Can we try running it back and doing it again? Aww.

Speaker 11:Wow.

Speaker 10:Yeah, I mean, I think I'm going to say yes. It's not like a pity yes or anything. Like, I really would like to.

Speaker 4:See a yes.

Speaker 6:You know, that's kind of a backwards compliment, but we'll take it.

Speaker 10:Well, I mean, this is such an odd way of going about it.

Speaker 4:It's not like I feel pressure from you or anything like that.

Speaker 5:Plus, it's not like she called him unattractive, right, Jeff? Right, exactly.

Speaker 10:No.

Speaker 5:Good. Really good. Nobody ever would call him that. Thank you, Jeffrey. Congratulations, Trey, and congratulations, Steph. You're both going to meet up one more time, and we're not going to pay for it.

Speaker 10:This felt weird.

Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 5:What a great wedding toast story, if it ever gets to that point.

Speaker 2:I think they're so cute.

Speaker 5:My friend paid me to meet him, and then I fell in love.

Speaker 2:I mean, it is perfect because it's funny, a little self-deprecating.

Speaker 5:Isn't this the plot.

Speaker 7:To Pretty Woman?

Speaker 5:She's the woman, right? You just don't hear that enough in wedding vows anymore, especially with guys as classically unattractive as he was.

Speaker 7:Oh, you had to get it out.

Speaker 5:Allegedly. You finally said it.

Speaker 2:What?

Speaker 5:We said not to say it during the call. Call's over. They're probably free reign.

Speaker 2:It was killing you, wasn't it?

Speaker 5:I did a great job, and you can all thank me for not bringing.

Speaker 8:It up later.

Speaker 3:Oh, boy.

Speaker 2:If that's the bar.

Speaker 5:Yeah.

Speaker 3:Sure.

Speaker 5:If you want to thank us or if you just want our help, we're available online. You can email the show. We'll call that person who's not calling you back and go check out all of our second dates wherever you get your podcasts at Brooke and Jeffrey.

Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 5:If you think about it, your dating life is very similar to famous movie plots. The question is, which movie describes your life? Like, Alexis' dating life is kind of like The Hangover. Kind of messy. She doesn't know how she got there. But you know there's going to be an equally terrible sequel the very next weekend.

Speaker 2:Please tell me there's not a random baby at some point. No, just like the lion or tiger.

Speaker 5:Meanwhile, Jose's is like Top Gun.

Speaker 7:That is not what I would have said.

Speaker 5:He's hoping for it to be a little fast and dangerous, but at the end, someone's always ejecting prematurely. And everyone's sad.

Speaker 3:Wow.

Speaker 2:Yeah, that is very true. That just made me.

Speaker 5:One of our listeners described her first date like a very famous film, and the comparison immediately had us all very, very concerned.

Speaker 2:Like more concerned than I just was? Jeffrey?

Speaker 5:Not in the same way. You're going to hear it in a second date update.

Speaker 10:Eject!

Speaker 7:Jeff, I'm ejecting!

Speaker 5:It's too late. We're going to do it next. We get a lot of listeners who email the show describing their dates to us.

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 5:But Sophia is the first to ever say her first date was just like the love story in the movie Up.

Speaker 3:What?

Speaker 7:That's a terrible. That movie is so bad.

Speaker 5:It's an interesting way to describe it because that relationship I'm pretty sure has a. Pretty sad ending.

Speaker 6:She's like, I'm 96 and my husband died. It's beautiful, but she's the one that should be dead if that's the story.

Speaker 9:Oh, your wife is the baddest one.

Speaker 5:Or who knows, maybe they're a date involved a chubby Boy Scout at some point.

Speaker 7:Or just a lot of balloons. Oh, and a big-nosed doggy.

Speaker 5:The Boy Scouts is usually how my dates end up.

Speaker 10:Okay.

Speaker 2:The police come in.

Speaker 5:We're like the Man Scouts.

Speaker 3:You know what?

Speaker 5:I don't want to get into it, but let's welcome to the show Sophia. Sophia, can't wait to hear how you felt like your date was like that Pixar film.

Speaker 8:There was no Boy Scout. Unfortunately, there were no balloons.

Speaker 7:No balloons either.

Speaker 9:Is the guy just super old?

Speaker 5:What do you mean it's like up?

Speaker 8:Well, you know how they're just like this perfect match right from the beginning?

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 8:It felt like that, and it felt like we just fit, and I could just see the whole montage, not all.

Speaker 2:The sad stuff. That is a lot of pressure on a first date to feel that way. I mean, it's beautiful. That's beautiful.

Speaker 5:Totally.

Speaker 7:A lot of people can relate.

Speaker 5:So who died on the date?

Speaker 8:Nobody died.

Speaker 7:But a house got repossessed.

Speaker 2:It's just our hope that died, because he's not calling back.

Speaker 5:Maybe it'll make sense the more that we hear the story. Let's start with the guy's name.

Speaker 10:So his name is Andy.

Speaker 2:Okay, where'd you meet him?

Speaker 8:We actually met on a dating app, and we talked for a while. I thought he was so cute. He had that, like, perfect square jawline and even did his hair similarly to Carl from the movies.

Speaker 9:Oh, my God.

Speaker 7:Aw, cute.

Speaker 2:The old man in Up does have a really square head.

Speaker 6:Yeah.

Speaker 2:Yeah, that's interesting. Did you tell him that?

Speaker 8:I did. I did mention it a little bit. But I mean, I told him that I thought it was so, so cute.

Speaker 5:We're going to mark that as red balloon number one.

Speaker 2:What'd you guys do for your date?

Speaker 8:My sister actually gave me this vintage wicker basket. I was telling Andy that I've always wanted to use it. I've never had a good enough excuse.

Speaker 2:I love a good picnic basket. Was your sister perhaps.

Speaker 5:A chubby Boy Scout?

Speaker 3:No?

Speaker 7:Did she just get super high and watch up and think that she lived the movie?

Speaker 5:She didn't leave her home?

Speaker 7:Yeah, where did he go? I was floating in the sky.

Speaker 2:You gotta stop them.

Speaker 5:Tell us what happened.

Speaker 6:I'm sorry.

Speaker 7:People were texting in. They wanted to shut up.

Speaker 5:You wanted to use your picnic basket.

Speaker 2:He was down for that?

Speaker 8:He was.

Speaker 4:He was so excited.

Speaker 8:And it was so just like wholesome. And he was in charge of bringing the actual food. And I was in charge of bringing the activities.

Speaker 2:And the basket.

Speaker 8:With no food in it.

Speaker 2:I ended up.

Speaker 8:Bringing bubbles, which I realized quickly was really stupid.

Speaker 6:I was thinking a Frisbee would be a cool.

Speaker 8:I see that now.

Speaker 5:Okay.

Speaker 8:The bubbles lasted for all of like 30 seconds. It wasn't super entertaining. I brought some like finger painting stuff. I thought that would be cute too.

Speaker 10:Okay.

Speaker 7:How old is this guy? Can I ask? Is he seven?

Speaker 5:He would have loved it then.

Speaker 7:The big bubble wands are actually sweet. There you go.

Speaker 6:What did he say when you're pulling out all this elementary school fun?

Speaker 7:It's like a fun day at the park, but this does not seem romantic.

Speaker 8:I mean, we're both like creative people. And so he laughed and blew a few bubbles. And so I thought that maybe they'd be good activities to keep the hands distracted, but allow conversations to flow. And so, I don't know. I thought it was a good idea.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 5:We have red balloons two and three.

Speaker 7:This is not that bad.

Speaker 5:We're kidding. We're just joking around.

Speaker 7:As long as you were happy and he was happy. So what happened next?

Speaker 8:So the part that was more like the movie up, We walked around the park. We found this perfect spot where there was a clearing. We laid down this old blanket, and we just looked up at the clouds. We talked and shared our dreams.

Speaker 2:Were either of you drunk? Had anybody been drinking at this point?

Speaker 8:No.

Speaker 10:No drinking, surprisingly.

Speaker 8:It was so natural, and that's what I meant by something just seemed very comfortable and natural.

Speaker 5:Okay.

Speaker 7:That's great.

Speaker 5:I'm happy for you.

Speaker 2:We are so jaded.

Speaker 5:We are giving you a hard time about it, but it sounds okay so far. That's amazing. Was there any low moments during the date or anything that has you worried?

Speaker 8:There was one, I think, really small moment that is the only thing I can think of.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 5:What happened?

Speaker 8:So this sweet little golden doodle ran up to me at one point.

Speaker 2:There's a dog? I mean, it's a park.

Speaker 5:I guess there would be dogs, yeah.

Speaker 3:Okay. Yeah.

Speaker 5:Why is that a low moment?

Speaker 6:Yeah.

Speaker 8:Well, the owner walked up and I started asking him questions about his puppy because I thought it was so cute. And now that I'm thinking back on it, maybe Andy could have thought something else was going on.

Speaker 10:I'm like.

Speaker 2:Oh, like you were hitting on the golden doodles dad?

Speaker 3:I mean, the owner.

Speaker 8:was an attractive guy. And I was asking a lot of questions. It was genuine interest.

Speaker 3:About just the dog.

Speaker 5:His jaw was even squarer than the guy you were with.

Speaker 2:They actually would have included that in the movie Up if the woman didn't die at the beginning. You know, like the real story.

Speaker 8:Well, when I looked back the whole time, I thought Andy was like right there. But I looked back and he was sitting on the blanket, just like blowing bubbles by himself. I broke off the conversation very quickly after that. I went back to Andy and I apologized and, you know, was saying I just really like dogs. But I don't know. It felt like maybe a little awkward.

Speaker 2:That's not a red flag to you, huh? Or a red balloon. Sorry, Jeffrey.

Speaker 7:Red balloon.

Speaker 8:But overall, it was a really, really great day. But he stopped responding to my text. So I'm just trying to figure out what's going on because this has now turned into like... The ghost of up. I'm ghosted.

Speaker 6:Okay.

Speaker 2:Ghost of up. Yeah.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 7:Now it's more like Coco. Yeah.

Speaker 6:I get it.

Speaker 7:Brooke and I understand.

Speaker 5:There's definitely been a lot of red balloons on this first date. We're going to try and pop them and bring us back down to earth, get you a second date when we call Andy for you right after this, okay?

Speaker 10:Thank you so much.

Speaker 6:Give me my Disney.

Speaker 3:Dream, please.

Speaker 6:Hold on.

Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 4:Second date update.

Speaker 5:It's the music per request by Brooke. 99 red balloons.

Speaker 2:I love this song.

Speaker 7:It's so good.

Speaker 5:We're using them to symbolize red flags because our listener Sophia compared her date to parts of the movie Up. Not the death parts or the Boy Scouts or the floating house.

Speaker 9:No, no.

Speaker 5:99% of the movie.

Speaker 2:Like 99 balloons.

Speaker 5:Right. It's just the connection that she had, which she describes in her email as possibly lifelong.

Speaker 2:My gosh.

Speaker 5:If we can get her another date with Andy after they're made up at the park.

Speaker 7:He does kind of look like, because of his chiseled jaw, a young version of Hulk.

Speaker 4:Yeah, totally.

Speaker 5:So there's similarities there. That's my recap. Brooke, your witness. Feel free to badger her.

Speaker 6:No, honestly, like, if this actually works out for you, what a great start to a love story.

Speaker 2:I mean, that's what you're trying to write here, which, whew, it's a lot of pressure.

Speaker 10:No?

Speaker 3:Hello? Sophia? Hi. Hi.

Speaker 5:Yeah, I know a lot of people tune out the second that Brooke starts talking, so I apologize for throwing it over to her.

Speaker 2:Try to be encouraging. That's why I'm going to stop doing that.

Speaker 7:She's rooting for you.

Speaker 5:I'm excited for you.

Speaker 3:Sorry.

Speaker 5:She's fantasizing about her future. Don't be nervous.

Speaker 7:We're here for you.

Speaker 5:Let us take over and we're going to call Andy for you. You can stay quiet until we call you.

Speaker 3:In, okay?

Speaker 6:Or just stay quiet even when we do call you in because that's kind of your thing.

Speaker 5:We'll try to not let Brooke talk too much. Here we go.

Speaker 2:Snooze fest.

Speaker 5:All right.

Speaker 3:Hello?

Speaker 5:Hey, is this Andy?

Speaker 10:Yes, it is.

Speaker 5:Hey, what's up, Andy? Not sure if you're used to being on any radio shows early in the morning, but today's your day.

Speaker 7:All right, Andy.

Speaker 5:You're on the radio.

Speaker 2:Yay! Welcome to the show.

Speaker 5:See, as soon as Brooke starts talking. Every time. Every time.

Speaker 2:What is going on?

Speaker 7:Is it on?

Speaker 2:That's the problem, I think.

Speaker 5:Andy, you still there? We hear you. Let's turn that thing off. Andy, you still there?

Speaker 11:Yeah, what's going on?

Speaker 7:Sorry, Brooke.

Speaker 5:Hey, Andy. You're on Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning, and we're doing something called a second date update, trying to help out one of our listeners that you met up with recently named Sophia.

Speaker 11:Okay.

Speaker 10:Yeah.

Speaker 2:Hey, do you remember Sophia?

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 5:You sound really down about it.

Speaker 2:Maybe he's just skeptical.

Speaker 7:And this is a little shocking. A random radio show calls you.

Speaker 10:Yeah.

Speaker 5:So this is how the segment works. Our listeners email us asking for help to hook you two up again because she doesn't know why you haven't done that yet after what sounded like a really nice date in the park.

Speaker 2:Were those just vowels?

Speaker 7:Yeah, it's like sometimes why?

Speaker 5:Let me just give you an easy question. What do you think about Sophia?

Speaker 11:To be honest, I just I kind of didn't trust her all that much.

Speaker 2:What?

Speaker 7:Oh, trust.

Speaker 2:I'm sorry.

Speaker 6:That's just shocking to us because she just sounds so innocent and lovely.

Speaker 5:Yeah, that's what people want you to believe.

Speaker 2:That's what she sounded like.

Speaker 7:Maybe she's a good actor.

Speaker 2:Yeah, maybe you have some insider info that we don't know.

Speaker 5:Yeah, why do you say you don't trust her?

Speaker 11:It's like something about her profile. We met online.

Speaker 5:But, I mean, if it's on her profile, you would know that before you went out.

Speaker 2:Yeah.

Speaker 5:Right?

Speaker 11:Yeah, well, on her profile, like, the last picture she has is, like, a picture of her feet for some reason, I noticed.

Speaker 5:What? Oh.

Speaker 7:Like, in the sand on the beach or something?

Speaker 11:Yeah, somewhere. And that was really weird because, like, you know, I saw her in person and, like, they weren't her feet.

Speaker 2:What do you mean?

Speaker 7:What the heck?

Speaker 11:I felt a little foot fished, I guess.

Speaker 5:Foot fished? Foot fished. You got foot fished.

Speaker 2:What does that even mean? You got cat finned. How did you even see her feet?

Speaker 11:Well, she had them off when we were, you know, we were having a picnic.

Speaker 7:I know at the park. Call someone about that.

Speaker 5:She took her shoes off in the park?

Speaker 11:She took her shoes off, right.

Speaker 2:Okay. Are you like a feet guy?

Speaker 11:No, I'm not a feet guy at all. They're fine feet. I just don't. I just noticed that there weren't her feet.

Speaker 7:How can you tell?

Speaker 11:You don't have to be a foot guy to realize it's just like her feet on the profile were just completely different feet. And, I mean, I don't know why you would lie about your feet.

Speaker 5:It is a little odd that you would highlight it on your profile.

Speaker 2:Everyone's trying to make money off foot pics. You think that's what it is?

Speaker 5:Well, we should call her and ask her if it was a mistake, if she even realizes she did it. Call her.

Speaker 11:I bet she'll tell you there weren't her feet.

Speaker 3:Oh.

Speaker 5:Oh, that's an interesting idea to call her. Or we don't even have to because she's actually on the other line already listening and wanting to talk to you.

Speaker 11:What is going on? Like, is this a big setup?

Speaker 8:No, no, it's not. I just you weren't responding. And I just I thought our date was so great. We had a great connection and I just wanted answers.

Speaker 5:OK, well, what's going on with the feet on your profile?

Speaker 2:Do you know what he's talking about?

Speaker 3:I do.

Speaker 8:So I guess, like, the first reason is, like, it weeds out the weirdos.

Speaker 5:I think it attracts the weirdos. I was going to say.

Speaker 7:It sounds like it does opposite.

Speaker 8:Well, you know very quickly who is going to be weird and who's not when.

Speaker 7:They're reaching out.

Speaker 5:If they're commenting specifically on your foot pic, that's how you know don't respond to them.

Speaker 7:I noticed you liked and commented on just the foot.

Speaker 11:That, to me, is just, like, weirdly manipulative.

Speaker 5:And it sounds like Andy didn't even react to your foot pic online.

Speaker 2:Well, that's why she liked him.

Speaker 5:No, there's more.

Speaker 8:I promise. If you read the caption on my picture... it says those are like my perfect dream Disney feet. Like I thought it was like quirky and funny and like Disney princesses have perfect feet, but I was trying to like make it a funny joke of like, I don't have Rapunzel toes. There's no white ankles.

Speaker 5:Okay. I mean, Andy, did you read the caption of her foot pick?

Speaker 11:I mean, to be honest with you, it wasn't something I really noticed until after. Like, I was just looking at her profile. And, I mean, girls post a lot of crap that you just don't care about. I was just like, oh.

Speaker 2:No, that's the answer we're looking for, Andy.

Speaker 6:Wait, did you see that caption? Is she being honest about it? Like, is it still there, Sophia? Could he pull it up and look at it right now? It's there.

Speaker 8:It's definitely there. And, like, I was very upfront, like, These are not my feet. These are like my perfect Disney feet.

Speaker 2:So she's saying it's a trap to weed out the weirdos. And she was honest about it.

Speaker 5:And it does make sense a little bit because we spoke to Sophia earlier and she was mentioning the movie up a lot.

Speaker 2:Oh, she's a Disney adult.

Speaker 7:She's big into Disney and.

Speaker 5:Things like that. It really resonates with her. She said she even told you that you looked like the man from Up.

Speaker 7:The young version.

Speaker 2:You know you're a Disney adult if you know the old guy's name. She knew his name was Carl.

Speaker 7:I don't even know his name.

Speaker 5:Don't you see that as a compliment, Andy?

Speaker 11:Disney adults freak me out, man. I don't know what's going on there.

Speaker 7:What?

Speaker 5:No, she said you were handsome.

Speaker 3:What?

Speaker 8:That's not what you said on our date, Andy. We were, like, laying on a blanket looking up at clouds in the sky, and you were pretty upfront with your Disney knowledge.

Speaker 11:Okay, I didn't think it was related to feet, though, at the time. That takes it to a whole different level.

Speaker 8:Well, if you had a problem with it, I'm not sure why you didn't just bring it up and why you instead chose to ghost me. That seems pretty immature.

Speaker 2:I will say she's coming across pretty mature.

Speaker 11:That was me bringing it up. That was me bringing it up, ghosting you.

Speaker 6:Oh.

Speaker 2:Okay, that's not really.

Speaker 5:Just like Carl from Up movie.

Speaker 2:You think he's passive-aggressive?

Speaker 5:He's very passive-aggressive, grumpy man.

Speaker 2:It's pretty obvious he's not happy.

Speaker 6:His wife just died.

Speaker 5:Yeah, because he loves her. And that's what we're trying to establish here, a love connection.

Speaker 2:Yeah, just wait until she sends you a boob pic. That'll be, like, big boobs, too. You never know what party.

Speaker 9:Part you're getting.

Speaker 5:Before we start sending erotic photos to each other, let's send you out on a second date that we would pay for, if you're up for it, Andy.

Speaker 11:It's just, the Disney thing is just kind of weird. And the feed thing, you know, I can handle a little Disney, and, like, you know, I went along with the conversation, but... It's just kind of like, eh.

Speaker 2:Wow.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 2:That's too bad.

Speaker 5:Just can't handle getting foot fish.

Speaker 8:Andy, I hope that you find somebody who can at least compete with your Pokemon card collection.

Speaker 3:Whoa.

Speaker 5:Do you have one of those?

Speaker 11:Sick burn. Yeah, I have like old Pokemon cards from when I was like 12.

Speaker 10:Oh.

Speaker 5:Well, they're worth a lot of money now, so it's actually financially very responsible.

Speaker 7:Kind of jealous of you, bro.

Speaker 8:I guess have a great life, Andy. I don't know what else to say. It's really disappointing that you decided to act that way. I guess if you want to call somebody childish.

Speaker 11:Sure, I'll take the blame.

Speaker 8:But at least I am happy at the end of the day, and I don't burn bridges with people that would have treated me well.

Speaker 6:Yeah, I guess you could go make your own happy ending. Yeah.

Speaker 5:But then usually that costs extra, though, Brooke. No, Jeff, not.

Speaker 7:Never mind.

Speaker 2:That's not the same.

Speaker 5:You said the wrong words. Oh, OK.

Speaker 9:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 5:I can say that's officially our first ever foot fish that we've had on this show.

Speaker 2:Did we coin the term? Do we get the credit for it?

Speaker 5:Oh, I think that guy gets the credit for it. He's the one that said it.

Speaker 7:He did bring it up, yeah. We can't just steal it.

Speaker 2:The whole thing's kind of strange.

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 5:Yeah, it was. Of course, the guy doesn't read the captions on women's profile pics because, honestly, no guy does.

Speaker 7:No.

Speaker 6:I mean, is she so bad at weeding out the weirdos that she has to put a foot pic up that's not hers? I don't know. I just.

Speaker 2:Is it that difficult?

Speaker 5:I do kind of respect her strategy to weed out the creepers from her dating profile. I think we should post pictures of all of our feet on the Brooke and Jeffrey Insta stories to weed out the weird listeners.

Speaker 7:These are never going to go up for free.

Speaker 5:Are you sure? Afterwards, we might not have any listeners left.

Speaker 2:We like weird listeners. We are not anti-weird here.

Speaker 7:Who wants to see my hairy feet knuckles? The knuckles even have hair on them.

Speaker 5:I still think we should post them.

Speaker 2:I think for you, Jose, it's just the long toenails.

Speaker 7:Sometimes I bite them.

Speaker 5:So, you know, it didn't work out for this particular couple. It doesn't mean it won't work out for you. You can email the show. We'll call that person who isn't calling you back. And you can check out all of our podcasts wherever you get yours at Brooke and Jeffrey.
