Welcome to GSA 101 brought to you by Elevate GSA: where we turn GOVSPEAK into a language YOU speak. My name is Hannah Struss and I have Collin Hartsell here with me today we are going to be discussing a feature GSA rolled out in eBuy called subgroups.
GSA actually rolled this feature out in August 2020 and when they did, it caused some considerable confusion amongst vendors and understandably so! With GSA reformatting during the MAS Consolidation, contractors were dropped into an unfamiliar world with new Large Categories and brand-new SIN names and numbers, so a big update to eBuy was just another item added to an already daunting list of updates. So let’s get you a breakdown of what the subgroups are and how they can be useful.
Inside of eBuy you have your SINs listed that have been awarded to your contract. These are the categories that you have been awarded either at your contract award, or through the formal eMod modification process. GSA added new subgroups under these SINs. This allows you to pick more specifically the types of products and services you offer on your contract.
Collin:
Right, these subgroups are not new SINs, so this does not mean you can start adding SINs to your contract nonchalantly inside eBuy. The subgroups just allow you to give some more specifics about what you do under each SIN so purchasing officers are better able to identify vendors they would like to work with. Your subgroup choices will be visibile to potential customers in ebuy and elibrary for market research purposes. If you choose to not select any subgroups, you will not be formally penalized or anything, but you may passively lose some otherwise garnered interest in your contract.
Hannah:
Basically, it is a good idea to add them to your ebuy profile. You just need to log in, select the “modify subgroups” button on the right-hand side of your screen, and select the subgroups that fit your contract. Not all SINs have subgroups so if you don’t see any, then your SIN doesn’t have any! We will include a list in the show notes of what SINs have subgroups for your reference.
Another quick note - if you have the HACS SIN – you are not able to self-certify them in eBuy. This SIN is a special case and will require you to reach out to your contracting officer to assist you in getting them added. There are special requirements that you will have to meet when you’re adding the SIN to get into the different subgroups. If you are pursuing the HACS SIN presently, make sure to select the subgroups that you want to apply for during the addition process and make sure your CO is aware you want these listed on your eBuy account.
