Speaker 1:Welcome to Pod Meets World.

Speaker 2:I'm Danielle Fishel.

Speaker 1:I'm Ryder Strong.

Speaker 3:And I'm Will Friedle. Hello.

Speaker 4:Welcome to Pod Meets World on Disney +. I'm Danielle Fishel.

Speaker 1:I'm Ryder Strong.

Speaker 3:And I was just about to take a sip. I'm Will Friedle.

Speaker 1:Great timing.

Speaker 2:Of our unbranded water.

Speaker 3:Water.

Speaker 1:Brought to you by.

Speaker 3:Brought to you by... Water.

Speaker 2:By the mountain streams.

Speaker 3:Earth and this plastic bottle. Which is totally safe for the environment. Totally safe. You're not here yet.

Speaker 1:You're not supposed to talk.

Speaker 3:I'm so sorry. I will disappear. God.

Speaker 2:This week, we are competing yet again.

Speaker 4:We recently all sat down, or stood up, to paint alongside our dear instructor, Allison.

Speaker 3:We were sitting.

Speaker 4:And Will was unanimously crowned the winner.

Speaker 1:I was?

Speaker 3:I won? Yes.

Speaker 2:You won by.

Speaker 4:A landslide by our audience, and understandably so. You really did do a great job. But we figured we would take another crack at it. And at the same time, we're going to bring a little bit of.

Speaker 2:Disney magic to Disney +.

Speaker 3:Spirit finger. Spirit finger.

Speaker 4:You may know him as Zach Brock on Picket Fences or Brad from Gilmore Girls, but he is a Disney Channel legend starring in the first ever DCOM, Under Wraps.

Speaker 3:Under Wraps.

Speaker 2:You know it well.

Speaker 3:I know them all.

Speaker 2:And 1999's Can of Worms.

Speaker 3:That movie was weird.

Speaker 1:We talked about this, Adam. We did.

Speaker 3:No, Can of Worms. Listen, Can of Worms is odd. It is. It's really weird. It's fun, but it's super fun, but super weird. It is, seriously. Yeah, huff a dumpling and watch Can of Worms. You have to. There's no other way to watch it. Really.

Speaker 4:Not to mention, he is a prolific voice actor heard on shows like Hey Arnold, The Wild Thornberrys, Phineas and Ferb, and my favorite... Jake and the Neverland Pirates. But today he is our resident magician with over a million views on TikTok. Please welcome to Pod Meets World, our magic expert, Adam Wiley.

Speaker 1:You forgot one of his most important credits.

Speaker 3:What's that?

Speaker 2:Please, please.

Speaker 1:Boy Meets World.

Speaker 3:Season three.

Speaker 2:Episode 18.

Speaker 1:Dances with sweaters.

Speaker 3:That is correct. I am dances.

Speaker 5:And thank you for immortalizing, whenever I like hear Boy Meets World, I always think of you going, dances?

Speaker 3:Dances? Like every single time. I brought you your dry cleaning. Dances?

Speaker 1:It was a good episode.

Speaker 3:It was a great episode.

Speaker 1:Do you remember being on the set?

Speaker 3:Oh yeah, I remember.

Speaker 5:And Vader was there and he was telling me about his dislocated pinky and was like, how much do you weigh?

Speaker 3:Here, grab, and just lifted me up like that. I was like, oh, isn't that the best? Crazy. He was incredible.

Speaker 1:Wait, weren't you in Balloon Farm, too?

Speaker 3:That is correct, yeah. Which, by the way, I wanted to talk to you about that.

Speaker 5:I didn't mention something, and I think it is supposed to be a kid's take on The Rainmaker.

Speaker 1:Okay.

Speaker 3:Is really what they were going for. That makes perfect sense. I'm confused now. Is the Rainmaker the one? 110 in the Shade, the musical version of Rainmaker. I went right to, what's the Grisham novel?

Speaker 1:It's also called The Rainmaker.

Speaker 6:The Rainmaker is a guy who comes to town and he tries to make it rain or whatever.

Speaker 1:It's like, is he lying or is he telling the truth?

Speaker 3:Maybe that's what it was. That's exactly right.

Speaker 2:Okay, well, Adam, thank you so much for joining us.

Speaker 4:None of us were ever officially in a DCOM, so we appreciate you bringing this type of credibility to our show.

Speaker 3:I am happy to represent. We were all wonderful World of Disney. We're cousins, but it's not the same.

Speaker 2:Yes, we all.

Speaker 3:We're here now. It doesn't matter. We're all on the same platform. We're good.

Speaker 4:How did you merge from the wonderful world of Hollywood to magic?

Speaker 3:Well, um.

Speaker 5:That's a very interesting question, and it has an interesting answer. Now, the short answer that I give everybody is I needed time to kill on set, as we all do. But that's kind of not the actual story. The actual story is that I was doing a musical. I was doing Oliver when I was very little. I was about five years old. And this kid came up to me. And said, this guy, Mr. McIntosh, is showing everyone a puzzle and you're never gonna figure it out. And I was that precocious kid who was like, I'm gonna be a performer my whole life. I'm gonna figure out the puzzle because I'm smarter than no one. So I go up there and he was doing the disappearing handkerchief. And I saw it and I was like, what?

Speaker 3:Do it again.

Speaker 5:Okay, I'm gonna figure it out, do it again. After the fourth or fifth time, he goes, Adam, This is called magic.

Speaker 3:It is designed.

Speaker 5:I'm a professional magician at the Magic Castle, and I am designing. This is designed for you to not figure it out. And I was like, oh, like my mind fell on the floor. And he showed me the trick. He pulled me aside, and she said, this is how it works, then gave it to me. Went to a magic shop the next day because if you know anything about the prop, It was not child size.

Speaker 3:Oh, I do know the prop, yes. It was not, you could not, it was not happening. It was too obvious. It was too obvious, yes.

Speaker 1:Just a child.

Speaker 3:Yeah, just ring, ring, ring, ring. Yeah, it was like a bell on my thumb.

Speaker 5:So I went ahead and went to a magic shop and got one that was a junior size, which was still too big because I have been a very, very small person my entire life. And the rest is kind of history, but as my acting career took over It was off and on. I really didn't learn sleight of hand until my later teens. I was doing a show in New York. I was doing Footloose. And I went to France afterwards for my first time ever at France. I went to Nice and all these amazing places in Paris.

Speaker 5:And I left every single magic trick I owned on that airplane at 17. And I thought, Well, magic is done for me because I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to rebuy all of those gimmicks.

Speaker 3:So goodbye, magic. It was fun while it lasted.

Speaker 5:About three years later, I did, there was a new trick that came out and it was a rising card with any borrowed deck and I was like, that's cool because I don't need to, it's cheap and I can do it with anybody's cards.

Speaker 3:That's for me. So I bought it and I did a trick and they were like, do you know anything else? I was like, yeah.

Speaker 5:So I did two more things that I could remember from Mark Wilson's Encyclopedia of Magic and they said, do you know anything else?

Speaker 3:And I said, no.

Speaker 5:And they said, you should really get back into this and you know what? I said, Yeah, I think I will. And I started accumulating knowledge.

Speaker 3:So you were, what, like 18 at this point? Yeah.

Speaker 1:Okay.

Speaker 3:No, I was about 20, actually.

Speaker 5:And at 21, I met my friend Vincent Rodriguez III. If you guys know him, he is Josh on My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and actor, singer, dancer, a whole bit. And so Vinny and I were doing Camelot in Boston, and we did the same card flourish at the same time And he opened my eyes to what magic could do and how to further it without any gimmicks, without anything. And it blew my mind. And I have been working towards becoming a professional ever since. A couple years later, I was doing Wicked at the Pantages. It was my golden birthday. And I thought, for my golden birthday, I'm going to join the Magic Castle.

Speaker 3:And I did.

Speaker 5:And two years later, I was performing there, and I was doing a musical for the owner of the Magic Castle at the same time, and the rest is kind of history.

Speaker 3:Wow.

Speaker 7:When we did an episode of Boy Meets World where Eric has to shoot pool balls into, and it's like multiple balls in one shot.

Speaker 3:Oh, it was Chef Anton?

Speaker 7:And Chef Anton was my mentor there, and he came and taught me everything, and it was the.

Speaker 3:Coolest thing in the world. He like set up the shot and did, oh hey, I actually took the shot.

Speaker 1:It's not really much of a trick. It was just like.

Speaker 3:Knowing how to do it.

Speaker 4:It's a trick, it's just not much of a magic trick.

Speaker 3:All magic is that.

Speaker 5:Magic really is the awe and wonder that you guys experience and me being able to be lucky enough to see your reactions. What we do, what I'm doing, what Chef Anton is doing is a conduit for that reaction, which is the magic. The magic trick, I'm doing the trick. We are all as a unit providing the magic.

Speaker 3:Does that make sense?

Speaker 7:Yeah.

Speaker 3:We looked him up again, and we were like, is this a joke? It's him. He says he teaches. It's got to be a joke. He teaches underwater magic. Oh, no, that's not a joke. That's not a joke. They have waterproof cards. Like, I promise you. So he's doing scuba magic. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, I promise you it's a thing. Wow.

Speaker 4:What would you say is the biggest difference between acting and magic?

Speaker 2:And what would you say makes them very similar?

Speaker 5:Okay, so I would say the biggest difference is the unscripted-ness of the whole thing. The improv is abundant. You have to really be on your toes. Things are going to go wrong, period. No magic show is going to have a perfect run every single time. That's just not possible because we're all human. We're all going to make mistakes. But of course, like live theater, your job is to not show that. Your job is to remember that you know where you're going and your audience does not.

Speaker 3:To lead them down a path of, oh, I meant to do that. Here's why.

Speaker 5:And sometimes that's on purpose. And sometimes that is not. But you don't want your audience to be able to tell the difference.

Speaker 3:So mistake and misdirection are two very different things. Or the same.

Speaker 1:Or the same.

Speaker 3:And how it's very similar is at the end of the day, it's just performing.

Speaker 5:You cannot do it alone. It's for an audience. You have to read your audience. You have to know how to play what you are doing. You have to be able to listen. You have to be able to read what's coming at you in order to understand what's coming back.

Speaker 3:And you have to be self-aware. There are times where.

Speaker 5:I admittedly have not been self-aware. And, you know, I have an amazing wife who keeps me grounded and who goes, hey, you need to check that.

Speaker 3:And I go, OK, you're right. All right. I didn't realize I was doing that.

Speaker 7:And then, you know, can is there is it one of those things where it's like you can't learn magic past a certain age? I mean, now that I'm 50, could I pick up magic now and by 55 be decent at it kind of thing?

Speaker 3:By 51, you'd be able to join the castle. No, by, I would say, what is it now?

Speaker 5:Okay, I would say in the next five months, if you and I worked once a week, I could get you absolutely in the next five months to be a Magic Castle member. If you give me five or six months past that, I could get you probably good enough to submit to the close-up room.

Speaker 3:No. 100%. Once or twice a week. I'm going to take you up on that. Okay.

Speaker 1:Really?

Speaker 3:Yeah, 100%. 100%. I want to try. Let's do it. So within a year, within a year. By the time you're 51, we can do that.

Speaker 1:Here's the thing.

Speaker 6:I think that like, yeah, I mean, I think what you would bring, which I'm sure you brought too, is what I think is probably the most ineffable thing, which is performing.

Speaker 3:Absolutely.

Speaker 1:The ability to talk, the ability to like. entertain, read an audience. That might not be as teachable.

Speaker 6:The tricks, I imagine, are somewhat teachable because it's usually a logic thing or a sleight of hand thing, and once you learn.

Speaker 1:That, yeah.

Speaker 3:That was absolutely nailed. If you're an amazing performer, you're gonna be an amazing magician. Do you don't need certain size hands or any.

Speaker 1:Of that kind?

Speaker 3:Oh, no, I have very tiny hands. Smell like cabbage.

Speaker 5:I'm not built for card magic, and yet card magic is my main source.

Speaker 3:It's crazy.

Speaker 4:Talk quite a bit about the Magic Castle, but there are a lot of dear listeners and viewers who don't know a ton about the Magic Castle. You have performed all over the country quite a bit at the Magic Castle. For anyone listening or watching who doesn't know anything about the Magic Castle, what could you tell them?

Speaker 5:So it is described, the Magic Castle, as the Mecca of Magic. What that means is Magicians from all over the world do flock to try to perform here, which is incredible.

Speaker 3:It's amazing.

Speaker 5:It is the world's biggest, most private club for magicians and magic lovers on the planet. So basically, magicians from around the world perform in different rooms. Each room is a different size with a different style. of magic, there are many styles of magic. There's close-up magic, there's parlor magic, which is like magic in your living room, a little more distance. There's stage magic, which is big illusions, grand illusions, sawing the person in half, making the tigers, lions, bears, oh my, appear, disappear, all of those things. And there is bar magic, which is a mixture of kind of like a strolling magic, which I'll get into, and a close-up magic. There is strolling magic, and that is doing small bits of magic like at a wedding reception at an event where you go up to different groups of people and you kind of move on. And then there's like the comedy magicians, which is mostly a comedy act with some magic thrown in.

Speaker 3:And then there are mentalists, and mentalists are mind readers. I knew you were going to say that. You're good. Maybe you should be a mentalist. I knew you were going to say that too. I also know exactly what Danielle's thinking, and that's not true. Very incredible.

Speaker 5:So it's deceptively big, but it's a private club, so you do need to know a magician to give you either a guest pass or walk in with a magician or be on a magician's guest list.

Speaker 3:But it is.

Speaker 1:And you also have to be well-dressed.

Speaker 3:You also have to be well-dressed. There is a dress code. That there's a dress code. Yes, there is a dress code. I've only been once. Soon to be twice. Soon to be twice. But the entire experience is.

Speaker 7:It's this great combination of being old-school magic and old-school Hollywood. It's really cool, the combination of the things of getting dressed up and everything when you walk in. It's just ridiculous to say, but it's a magical place.

Speaker 3:It really is.

Speaker 1:It's too late?

Speaker 3:It's too late.

Speaker 1:At night, you mean?

Speaker 3:Yes. Well, it opens at 5 p.m. That's what I.

Speaker 2:Need to do.

Speaker 3:Most people leave by 9 or 10 anyway. You can do the early bird special magic.

Speaker 8:I mean, I understand the last show is like, I think the.

Speaker 1:Last show is at like 12, 45 a.m.

Speaker 3:Like it's, it goes.

Speaker 7:That would be, but so that would be the biggest magic performed all night is if Danielle stayed that long.

Speaker 3:Cause you would literally go, there'd be no way.

Speaker 2:That was amazing.

Speaker 3:Now that wasn't here. It's one o'clock in the morning. That's incredible. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, Hey, you never know stranger things, right? Yeah.

Speaker 4:I was told that you were nice enough to maybe perform some magic here for us today.

Speaker 3:Oh, no, I'm not ready for that.

Speaker 1:Yeah, no.

Speaker 3:I'd be happy to do it. Ladies and gentlemen, Will Friedle. There you go. No, absolutely.

Speaker 5:So I had the lovely, amazing producers of your show buy actual deck of cards because I don't want you guys to think that there's things going on, there's things going on.

Speaker 3:I'm just gonna tell you.

Speaker 5:So, Will, we have cards here. I do not, it does not matter to me which deck of cards you decide to open.

Speaker 3:But all I would ask you to do is that. Excellent, we'll put that here. And whichever deck of cards you put on there. I don't know which ones I want.

Speaker 2:Should I pick your arm?

Speaker 3:Excellent. Okay, this one, though, you kind of tore the bottom of the box. It was tore before, which is another reason. Well, nothing's right. I'm torn, but I'm all out of faith. This is my wife. We'll do the opening. That's right. That's a remake. A lot of people don't know that song was a remake. Was it? Oh, really? Yeah, Dorm is a remake. Remix, remake? Am I saying it wrong? Cover.

Speaker 1:It's a cover.

Speaker 3:It's a cover. Just like Respect is a cover. Yes.

Speaker 5:It's probably one of the most famous covers of all time, besides I Will Always Love You. So I'm going to take all of the... and jokers and add cards out, leaving us with just a deck of cards that is perfectly in Hoyle order, that's what they- Hoyle?

Speaker 3:Hoyle order, new deck order.

Speaker 5:But Hoyle was, I think, the original company that made cards.

Speaker 3:Made cards, yeah. I will cut these.

Speaker 5:And I will give them a shuffle like this. But I'm gonna be honest with you that when I shuffle, people don't trust me.

Speaker 3:Why? Because I'm a magician. Which kind of makes sense. You shouldn't trust me, it doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 5:So I would like all of you, if you want, to help me with this. What I'm gonna do, Will, is I'm just gonna put cards here and if you could just continue To mix them.

Speaker 3:To mix them, okay. Mix them. We'll mix a lot. Yeah, just continue to mix. Mix, mix, mix.

Speaker 1:I'm exhausted.

Speaker 3:Mix and match all of the things for all of the people.

Speaker 2:That's just swirling.

Speaker 3:Yeah. Should I actually shuffle? You can do whatever you want. Just mix. It does not matter. Yeah, just mix it. Wow.

Speaker 2:I can't believe you said that.

Speaker 3:We're going to dub that in later. He's not going to like it.

Speaker 7:All right.

Speaker 3:Perfect. Okay. Yeah, just like the this. I'll continue to kind of throw cards kind of at you, all the things. Sure, it doesn't matter. That's a riffle shuffle. That's correct, yeah. You know riffle being on the cover?

Speaker 1:And you know what?

Speaker 3:Just kind of leave them a little, kind of leave them. Here, we'll leave them a little messy. All right.

Speaker 2:Leave them a little messy.

Speaker 3:All right.

Speaker 2:Leave them a little bit messy. That top chunk didn't get mixed in. Well, okay, thank you.

Speaker 3:I don't trust your top chunk. All right, there we go.

Speaker 2:All right, there we go.

Speaker 3:I think top chunk might have to go on the list. Good, and we'll cut that top chunk inside. And in fact, why don't we do this? Just because. We'll cut it more or less. It doesn't matter. Like this, and we shuffle like this. Yeah, I like that.

Speaker 2:That's a great sound.

Speaker 3:Good, it is a great sound. We'll do that. Okay. Okay. Now, we're gonna all kind of help. I'm gonna show you something in the beginning that's called any card at any number.

Speaker 5:This is called a card plot. Any card at any number. What a card plot is, is like a storyline for Magic. So it's like different episodes. If we were doing a series, this would be one of the storylines. So we're going to need to be able to all come up with essentially a card and a position with value and suit.

Speaker 3:So, Ryder, you're gonna be first. Could you come over here? and grab just a chunk out of the middle. Whatever, just a chunk of cards out of the middle. It could be big, small, it doesn't matter. You wanna take, you can take more if you want. Are you sure? Count how many you have. Okay. He has seven cards. He's not on microphone. He has seven cards, people. Seven cards. That's the position. Seven cards. But now we need a... Now we need... a value. So, Danielle, if you would take a smaller chunk out of those seven, and however many you take, that'll be the value of the card that we select. Okay, so it will be the three of something. Seven cards down. Will, could you take a small chunk off the top? Fix them. Tiny chunk, and just show everyone the suit you got. Okay. Okay. Yeah, yeah, you can see it. Yeah, it doesn't matter. Okay, great.

Speaker 3:And put it back. So, can I see the seven, the, what's.

Speaker 2:Do you want my three that were taken from there?

Speaker 7:Sure.

Speaker 3:Okay. And you know what? Why not? We'll... Great. Okay, so we have the three of hearts, seven cards down.

Speaker 1:Okay.

Speaker 3:Okay. Done. What? One, two, three. See, it could have been anything. Four, five, six, seven.

Speaker 1:Nice.

Speaker 3:It's easy. No, it's not. No, that's not easy. That seems magical.

Speaker 1:How is that? Wait, I didn't have to work at all.

Speaker 3:I know. That was easy. Let's do more. Yes, let's do more. These will all be a little more. They'll go fast. Go ahead and mix those up. Mix, mix, mix. Mix, mix, mix, mix, mix. Doesn't matter. Don't care.

Speaker 7:I love it.

Speaker 3:Okay. That's totally fine. Okay. What was that trick called? That's any card at any number.

Speaker 2:Any card at any number.

Speaker 3:Yeah. There's many versions of it. That's my favorite.

Speaker 2:Ryder, did you ever have a magic phase in your life?

Speaker 1:Multiple.

Speaker 3:Oh, really?

Speaker 2:Well, when your brother is the strong brother.

Speaker 1:I got into magic before I got into acting.

Speaker 3:No way. Yeah.

Speaker 1:So I started doing birthday parties. Your regular Neil Patrick Harris.

Speaker 3:Look at him.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 1:But I was never good at the tricks.

Speaker 3:I just wanted to perform. We have something in common. So I just gave up.

Speaker 6:I was all like the props. So it was all the things we could buy. In San Francisco, there was a magic shop in the Fisherman's Wharf that we first visited.

Speaker 3:Misdirection's Magic.

Speaker 1:Is that what it was?

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 1:It was when I was like six or maybe even younger.

Speaker 6:And we saw Doug Henning when I was a kid and got all of my brother, me and my dad got called up on stage because we were like in the first four rows or whatever. So we just kept getting called and it was like the greatest night. So I just became obsessed with magic. But yeah, I wasn't very good at it. But I did join the Magic Castle in my 20s. I was a member for five years.

Speaker 3:But I didn't practice magic.

Speaker 1:I just went all the time to go. So what we would do is we would go late night.

Speaker 6:Because we would go out for sushi dinner and then go and.

Speaker 1:Just watch Magic until one in the morning.

Speaker 3:I love that.

Speaker 1:It was the best.

Speaker 5:All right, Will, you're here. And we'll participate with anyone in a second. I'm going to go through the cards like this. Whenever you see a card you like, just take it out. Don't worry if I see it, okay?

Speaker 3:Okay. Whatever you want. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 1:Go for it.

Speaker 3:Oh, great, the queen of diamonds. Why the queen of diamonds? I just was actually grabbing the four and you went past it too fast. Oh, we can switch it. No, I just want to grab this one back.

Speaker 1:Are you absolutely sure?

Speaker 2:I thought he was picking the queen because he's married to one.

Speaker 3:Have you ever been shuffling a deck of cards and accidentally dropped the queen there? No. You would know because the cards can't actually be shuffled. Pardon? Oh, I'll show you. All of the red cards, they clump up together. What?

Speaker 7:What?

Speaker 5:And all of the black cards, they clump up. together as soon as your card is out of the deck.

Speaker 3:We'll do it again. We'll do it again. It's fine. It's totally fine.

Speaker 5:I'm going to shuffle the cards like the this so that that way you can actually see me shuffling them.

Speaker 3:You can see me cutting them.

Speaker 5:I'll do a less magician-y shuffle so that way you guys absolutely know that I'm cheating like the this.

Speaker 3:And that is nothing. That does absolutely... That is so good. We'll do it again. We'll do it again.

Speaker 2:We'll do it slower.

Speaker 5:Very slow so that everybody can see. We can zoom in on this if you want. We grab some cards and we cut them.

Speaker 3:Like the this.

Speaker 5:And you can see then that I'm going to shuffle them like the this. This is called a pharaoh shuffle. This is not a perfect pharaoh shuffle. Very brand new deck of cards. And that was not a perfect cut. Like the this.

Speaker 3:And you can see that they are being riffled. You can hear it. And you can see that it does nothing. Put it anywhere you'd like. Anywhere in the deck. Anywhere you want. That's the way you need it. Anywhere you want it. All night. All night. Great. And as soon as that card is back inside the deck, all of the cards shuffle and I don't have to do anything. They just shuffle like this. It's fun. Yeah. That was cool. It's great.

Speaker 4:That was a great trick called.

Speaker 5:Oh, that's that's my version of oil and water. That's called instant oil and water.

Speaker 7:How much of your soul do you have to sell to get these powers?

Speaker 3:Yes. Oh, there is no part.

Speaker 5:Yeah, I've never even learned magic, to be honest with you, which is crazy. I just sold my soul.

Speaker 3:It was cheap. Do you want, I know a magic trick, you wanna see one? Oh yeah, yeah. Pick any card, any card.

Speaker 2:Are you gonna do 52 card shuffle?

Speaker 3:No, show them, don't let me see it, don't let me see it. All right, now put it back exactly here. Okay, now if I do this, now I can easily.

Speaker 2:Oh, I know, I can do this trick too.

Speaker 3:It's the queen. Oh wow, that's incredible. There's a key to that trick. Just by staring at the card beforehand. It's called key carding. Is it really? I always lose my key card. I'm going to shuffle these like this. Danielle, could you just name a playing card? It doesn't matter.

Speaker 2:Sure, the seven of spades.

Speaker 3:Cool, we're not going to use that. Okay. No, we are. I'm kidding. I'm totally just kidding.

Speaker 2:I just wanted you to see me name one.

Speaker 3:That is just a joke. We will absolutely use it. Will, you're here. Hi. Hi. Would you mind pulling out four cards for me that look nothing like the seven of spades? Sure. Okay. So I'm gonna go through, and they could be one at a time. It does not matter. And make sure I don't pass one this time, that you're like, ew, I want it. And make sure that all of those are real cards, that it's not like some random LED screen. Yeah, it doesn't matter. I'm gonna see them in a second anyway.

Speaker 3:Not random LED screens, they're just normal. Okay, see? Excellent, and one, two. You have two queens. That's great. Yeah. Look at that. Excellent. Queens are some of my favorites. I like queens. Yes, they're good. Hey.

Speaker 5:I'm going to go ahead and show everybody. We're going to share all together. Go ahead and see that there's an ace of diamonds and a queen of spades.

Speaker 3:It's very good. And an eight of clubs. Yes. And the queen of hearts, which is the second... a most said card in a deck of cards. First is the ace of spades, second is the queen of spades.

Speaker 5:Now I'm gonna take, or is the queen of hearts, right here, I'm gonna take that queen of hearts, I got confused because the queen of spades is also in.

Speaker 3:Here, which I'm looking at, but it doesn't matter. This, and like this. That was not the card you said. Oh, okay, good. What was the card you said? Thank you. Watch the queen. Oh, I have a four. That's every single seven.

Speaker 1:Really good.

Speaker 3:And you can go ahead and you can see all of them if you'd like. It's totally fine. We're just playing cards. That doesn't really matter. Ryder, could you just name any playing card that you want? It doesn't matter.

Speaker 1:I'll do ten of spades.

Speaker 3:Oh, that's excellent. Just out of curiosity, why the ten of spades?

Speaker 1:I have no idea.

Speaker 3:That is the number one answer for that card, so I really appreciate it, thank you. No, it's not.

Speaker 5:But that would have been good.

Speaker 3:Inside my back pocket, by the way, just so that you know, I have a wallet.

Speaker 5:Inside my wallet, I always keep one playing card right to here. And every single time that is in fact the 10 of spades, which does make the sense. Now here's the thing, is that I've been on email chains. That could have been something that we discussed at Will's birthday. And it could have been like a, hey, you should say the 10 of spades whenever I'm on this podcast that I didn't know I was going to be on.

Speaker 3:That could have happened. It didn't, but it could have happened. So I'm going to leave the 10 of spades out. I know I'm off mic so much. I'm going to do this. I'm sorry. Danielle, could you name a completely different card?

Speaker 2:Three of diamonds.

Speaker 3:Excellent. Okay.

Speaker 1:I always feel a little judged.

Speaker 3:No, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 1:It's a wrong answer.

Speaker 3:There's no wrong answer. I'm like, there's no wrong answer. Just that one. Yes. Let's just say it wasn't the wrong answer. Let's pretend for a moment that inside my back pocket I did have a wallet. Just pretend.

Speaker 4:Are you and Will friends because you guys both carry giant wallets?

Speaker 3:Very thick Jason Alexander wallets. Yeah. I don't have mine in here because I'd be sitting like this. Yes. I get it. Hurts my back.

Speaker 5:Inside the, it's because I carry, listen, I carry everything with me at all times.

Speaker 3:Right. And it's a very good and bad habit. Yeah.

Speaker 7:So.

Speaker 3:There's nothing bad about it. One. Another. Good. Yes, it is.

Speaker 5:And it is in fact the, three of diamonds. I'm gonna do this 50 more times because it's the only other trick that I know.

Speaker 3:So we're gonna go, I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

Speaker 4:Okay, this is wildly impressive. Is there any possibility you could teach us.

Speaker 3:A magic trick? A thousand percent, yes. Pick a card, Danielle.

Speaker 2:Oh, you already are gonna do it?

Speaker 3:Just think about it in your head. Okay. The nine of diamonds, amazing. Thank you, wow. Wow. Just bulldozed. You know what's incredible? Is if I just did, I would say this. Okay? And I didn't look and I got, I don't know, one playing card like that. It would be. The nine of diamonds, I'm kidding. That would be ridiculous. Listen, I would never do that. That was the two of hearts. I don't know why that would even, I don't know why that would happen. I'm kidding, it's the nine of diamonds.

Speaker 3:I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Oh, I'll show you. I have to show you. So you just take it and you shake. Does that make sense?

Speaker 5:You could, if you really wanted to, you could not shake, you could do this, and it would just kind of, you know, pop, but that would be a little bit different. Really, most magicians just kind of wave their hand over.

Speaker 3:And that's the thing. Wow. You are incredible. I'll put that back in the middle. I'm kidding, don't pay attention to me.

Speaker 2:Wait, can I ask you a question, Ten?

Speaker 4:You tell me what this trick is called. So one time I was at a party, and David Blaine was there.

Speaker 3:And that's just called being at the wrong party. And we're the right one. It depends on what you're into, man.

Speaker 4:I don't remember which way it went, but there was a, there was a card and I ripped the card up into a bunch of tiny.

Speaker 3:Pieces so far torn and restored and put, yeah, put.

Speaker 2:In the palm of my hand, closed my fist as tight as I could, held it behind my back. And then when I opened my hand, the card was back together.

Speaker 3:That's a torn and restored effect. How? Yes. That is what you're supposed to say. Magic. That is correct.

Speaker 8:Magic. Yes.

Speaker 3:That how is the magic of magic trick.

Speaker 1:Yeah, that's what I love.

Speaker 3:It comes first because it's more important.

Speaker 7:Can I ask what is the, again, you don't have to obviously explain any of it, but what is the trick that took you the longest to learn?

Speaker 3:Either that or either oil and water. Yeah. Okay. Oh, dude. Real nightmare. 15 years of my life.

Speaker 5:Not, just the first part. Just the first part. It was 15 years of my life.

Speaker 3:The other parts, not that long.

Speaker 5:And it's a culmination of different magicians. John Armstrong, that's kind of his ending. He's brilliant. But also there's another trick called NFG that.

Speaker 3:Not for Gary. We'll just call it that.

Speaker 7:Okay.

Speaker 3:Which took me seven or eight years.

Speaker 5:And it's because I learned it when I was in my first kind of year of really trying to learn magic. And I wasn't advanced enough yet. So I had to come back to it seven years later. And then I got it within 10 minutes.

Speaker 3:But I was like, oh, I was not ready for that. I get it. I was not ready.

Speaker 6:And so when you lost all your gadgets and tricks and props and stuff, you weren't doing card magic at that point.

Speaker 5:I was, but I was using like decks of cards from a magic shop. Like I was using Svengali decks and mental photography decks and invisible decks.

Speaker 1:So mostly the seven years or 15 years.

Speaker 3:Is just pure sleight of.

Speaker 1:Hand just working on, yeah. I could buy.

Speaker 5:A deck of cards from anywhere. I order them off Amazon. In fact, I'm going to be straight up. And that's what I use.

Speaker 3:I buy about four or five boxes for the year and I'm good. And that's all I use now. I don't use any trick gimmick. I don't. I don't like to, and here's the thing. Number one, I have ADHD. Could you tell?

Speaker 5:Because I will forget. I'll forget they're in my jacket. I will forget to add them. I'll forget to set them up. I will forget everything. I remember the trick.

Speaker 3:Go figure. But I will forget where I place things. So that's weird. Yeah.

Speaker 2:You don't want to have that stress.

Speaker 3:And you don't want to buy $ 20. Yeah.

Speaker 5:You don't want to waste $ 20, $ 25, $ 30, $ 40 on some deck of cards.

Speaker 3:Right. And I like people to be able to go, huh? And grab it out of my hands.

Speaker 8:Yeah.

Speaker 3:Right. And go, these are normal cards. What?

Speaker 7:Yeah.

Speaker 3:That is my favorite thing. Yeah. In the world.

Speaker 5:To be able to just go, no. That's... That is legit. You can hand it to me from wherever, which you could see.

Speaker 7:I think we talked about this a little bit on the other podcast, but how jealously do magicians guard their secrets? If you go up, as a fellow magician, if you go up to a magician and say, I loved your trick, would you teach me?

Speaker 3:Will they normally?

Speaker 5:It's magician to magician. Okay, there are three different types of magicians. There's the one that will guard secrets. Every secret with their life.

Speaker 3:Right. They will just hold. Every secret, nay nay, that is mine. You do not steal my thunder. Right. You do not take my effect. Right. That is mine. I worked hard for it. No. Then there is the, oh yeah, I'll teach you whatever you want to know. It's fine.

Speaker 8:Right.

Speaker 3:Whatever. And then there's the, earn my respect and I'll pull you aside one day. Okay. Three different types. Yeah. What are they mostly? Like if you had to put them all on a, is it the most part? It is mostly the first and third. Really? Okay. It's either earn my respect or never will I ever. Interesting.

Speaker 7:Cool.

Speaker 1:I used to love Penn and Teller. They were always my favorite.

Speaker 3:They're incredible.

Speaker 6:But I think it was because the whole bit, which, you know, they didn't really, but that they would tell you how they did it and you would still get into it. So when I was like 10, they were the first Broadway show I ever saw was Penn and.

Speaker 1:Teller on Broadway. I loved them.

Speaker 3:Love them.

Speaker 1:And then we saw them together, I think.

Speaker 3:Somewhere.

Speaker 1:With Angel and Vicky. They were doing a taping.

Speaker 3:Yeah. And we got them signed and all that.

Speaker 1:They signed a bunch of stuff.

Speaker 6:And I've seen them at the Rio, too. But no, they did a special, a taping. You know, this is in the 90s while we were on Boy.

Speaker 1:And we went. And we went.

Speaker 3:And we met them and they signed their books.

Speaker 1:And that was the first time I saw them do the Catch a Bullet in their... teeth trick.

Speaker 6:That I still do and still blows my mind I've seen it three times you know six people have died.

Speaker 7:Are you serious I've seen the David Blaine one where he did it where he caught it in his teeth and it like it shattered.

Speaker 8:His jaw yes it can happen oh my gosh I mean like why I've seen some people now do it with like softer things yeah yeah yeah I got me there Well, yes, sure.

Speaker 3:We'll call it a gummy bear. If that makes sense. I've been a magician for years then. I catch gummy bears in my mouth all the time.

Speaker 5:But I'm saying like Nerf guns, if I can say that. Or like, you know, soft dart guns.

Speaker 9:Soft dark toy products or confetti I don't know projectile something or confetti cannons I've seen that where you sign a piece of confetti you know which is pretty cool teach a trick.

Speaker 4:Yes I want you to teach us a trick but also I'm making this we're betting on this okay so Adam is going to teach us a trick then we're Each going to have to do it.

Speaker 2:We're going to put it on Instagram. And whoever does the trick the best.

Speaker 7:So it's Danielle in a burlap sack.

Speaker 3:No.

Speaker 2:Whoever loses, whoever does it the worst has to have their.

Speaker 1:But I'm assuming we're all going to learn how to do the trick. And then we just do it.

Speaker 5:So here's what's going to happen then. I'm going to teach you. I was going to teach you a trick in my head. I'm switching it.

Speaker 3:I'm going to teach you something slightly harder.

Speaker 1:Just slightly.

Speaker 3:Okay. Okay. Very slightly. So yeah, you did, but that's okay. Probably my brain. I'm going to shuffle the deck of cards like this.

Speaker 5:And I have a question for you.

Speaker 3:Did you know that I could, just cut the deck if you wouldn't mind. Okay? Magicians have a kind of a superpower. I could do this, say, Queen of Diamonds, for some reason. and the Queen of Diamonds would be face up. Now we're gonna try this again. So I'm gonna shuffle, like to this. Oh, but this time it's probably better if you take one. And you could show everybody you'd like. Can you see it or no? No. Cut the deck. Perfect. Put this here. And put the card there. Excellent, like this. So if I said another one, I'm not gonna say yours, it's fine. I kind of forget what mine was anyway. It's okay. It's not okay, but it's okay. I know what it is. I remember.

Speaker 3:Four of hearts, let's just say. Okay. And I did this, and it was the four of hearts. Okay. That would be really cool. Yeah. However, I'm a magician. You've seen me do that before. I want you to be able to do it.

Speaker 9:Okay.

Speaker 3:Okay? Also, his card was the four of spades. Right. So wait, what do I do? Snap. Oh. Say it. Four of spades. Oh. Oh. Is this the one you're gonna teach us? Yeah, of course.

Speaker 7:Wow.

Speaker 3:What is this one called? I don't know. It's in card college.

Speaker 2:It's called Magic Trick on Dum Dums.

Speaker 1:Dances with Sweaters?

Speaker 3:How about Upsy Daisy? Upsy Daisy, I'm sure. Oh my gosh, there's gonna be someone who's gonna attack me in the magic community for being like, you called it Upsy Daisy and you don't know what this is called?

Speaker 1:It's called Upsy Daisy.

Speaker 3:All right, so this is how this starts. As I shuffle....

Speaker 5:If everybody can do this, if you can't do this, don't worry about it. As I shuffle, I know what card is going on bottom.

Speaker 3:Yep.

Speaker 7:Okay.

Speaker 3:Which is the nine of clubs. Okay.

Speaker 5:Now, what I am going to do is after I shuffle, in secret, I would probably do this. I would take that bottom card and I would put it facing the other way, the nine of clubs. I just have to know what that card is.

Speaker 3:It doesn't matter. I'm going to do this. Go ahead and take any card you'd like. Okay. Okay. Excellent. Now, I'm going to say, cut the deck. Right? Okay. So I cut the deck. And just like the trick you showed, go ahead and put the top here, that upside down card is key carded, as we talked about, on top of your card. So go ahead and put that back. Boom.

Speaker 7:Incredible.

Speaker 5:So now we have this. Now all I have to do is go Nine of clubs. I already know that it's face up. I put it in there before it happened. Put it on the bottom of the deck.

Speaker 3:So nine of clubs. You guys all, and me, it's.

Speaker 7:Like, right?

Speaker 3:So I know that this next card is yours. So what I'm going to do is take both of those cards in my hand. Not just one. I'm going to spread through.

Speaker 5:I'm going to take both of those cards and try to line them up as best as I can. I'm going to flip over this half. I'm going to grab both of those cards. Now I'm going to flip over this half. thus flipping over your card.

Speaker 3:Like this.

Speaker 4:We need to go back because I don't know how when you cut, how did you grab from the nine?

Speaker 1:What happens to the loser of this challenge?

Speaker 2:We have to wear a costume.

Speaker 3:Now I just say snap, you say your card, and your card is now the face up one.

Speaker 7:Even showing me, I still don't know what just happened.

Speaker 3:Okay, so I have a card. Okay, great, great, great, great. It's all set up for you. All right.

Speaker 1:Oh wait, you already flipped it?

Speaker 6:I did.

Speaker 3:I did everything for you.

Speaker 1:Oh, well then I didn't do anything.

Speaker 3:That's not true.

Speaker 1:That's not true. That's not true. The idea was that I have someone take a card.

Speaker 3:Right, right.

Speaker 1:So now I'll guide you.

Speaker 3:I'll guide you. I'll guide you. You go to Danielle. I will guide you. All right. Danielle, take a card. Other way. Other way. Very good.

Speaker 1:Take a card.

Speaker 9:Excellent.

Speaker 1:Go, go.

Speaker 3:Very good. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.

Speaker 1:Now, I ask you to cut the deck. Or you cut the deck.

Speaker 3:Okay. Yes.

Speaker 1:Put your card in the middle.

Speaker 3:Excellent. Boom. Yes.

Speaker 1:Now, three of spades. I can just go like, I can name any card. Like, three of spades.

Speaker 3:Right.

Speaker 1:And there you have it.

Speaker 3:Oh my gosh, look at that. Wow, wow, wow.

Speaker 1:Isn't that crazy?

Speaker 3:Incredible.

Speaker 1:Now, I just.

Speaker 3:It's my turn. To take the other two and flip it.

Speaker 1:Yeah, well.

Speaker 3:Well, this is where the banter matters.

Speaker 1:Right, exactly.

Speaker 3:Because I need to.

Speaker 1:Yeah, lost it. Because I then flip over.

Speaker 2:You have to talk into your microphone.

Speaker 1:Why do I flip over the cards is my question.

Speaker 3:Because that's the magic trick.

Speaker 1:I was able to show you this.

Speaker 2:Isn't that great?

Speaker 3:So I'll use the second deck of cards.

Speaker 1:All right, now I'm just going to put this deck back together.

Speaker 7:Right.

Speaker 3:Right. Essentially. So if I'm using the other deck of cards. The amazing rider. And then, boom.

Speaker 1:Was that your card?

Speaker 3:It was.

Speaker 7:Incredible.

Speaker 1:All right, now I got it. Now I can do it again. Now I can do it.

Speaker 3:Right. Try one more time.

Speaker 1:No, I'll let you guys try.

Speaker 2:Okay, but this is the part I don't understand. Okay, so I'm.

Speaker 6:Going to start with the first card.

Speaker 2:I have the six of diamonds is on the bottom.

Speaker 3:And then you distract people and turn around and you're like, I'm going to do.

Speaker 5:A magic trick, but first I have to cough.

Speaker 3:And turn that. Oh, that was really bad. I'm so sorry. I did that into the microphone.

Speaker 2:I saw it.

Speaker 1:Good. She's good.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 2:Will, pick a card. Okay, show everyone you want. I'm closing my eyes.

Speaker 3:Okay. Okay. Okay.

Speaker 2:All right, now cut the deck.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 2:Okay, put your card in the middle there.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 2:No, yeah, this is the part I didn't understand.

Speaker 3:How does this have anything to do?

Speaker 5:So they're putting it back on the top portion, and you're putting the bottom portion on top of the top portion.

Speaker 1:So take it back to the cut.

Speaker 3:If that makes sense.

Speaker 1:Take it back to the cut.

Speaker 2:Okay, so this is the card he put on there.

Speaker 1:And so have him cut.

Speaker 3:Have him on the other half. What? Yeah. And then you put all the rest of the cards on.

Speaker 2:Top of it.

Speaker 3:And then you can name a card.

Speaker 4:I could name any card and it would just come to the top like that.

Speaker 2:Like say, I don't know. Ace of hearts, my favorite card, my favorite card.

Speaker 3:Beautiful, yeah, that's great.

Speaker 2:The ace of hearts, it would, wow!

Speaker 3:She's crazy. She's a magician.

Speaker 8:Okay.

Speaker 3:Oh my God.

Speaker 4:But now I take the ace.

Speaker 1:Cover with some banter.

Speaker 4:Yeah, I cover with some banter and I have that card that I just showed you right here.

Speaker 2:Is it the card on the bottom or on the top?

Speaker 3:That's for you to find out. And I turn this over. Sure, wow. That's a move. That was good. That's a move.

Speaker 1:And now you snap.

Speaker 3:Danielle Copperfield. Is this your card? Oh, my God. That's it. Oh, my God. I prefer Danielle Copperfield.

Speaker 2:I just tried to figure out what it is.

Speaker 1:That's incredible.

Speaker 7:Okay.

Speaker 3:All right, well. I'm going to do better with white tigers. I'm going to be honest with you. Hold on. I want to see. I didn't bring those.

Speaker 2:Okay, it's all the way here. All right, well, go from the beginning here.

Speaker 7:All right.

Speaker 3:Woo!

Speaker 2:Alright, you gotta shuffle first.

Speaker 3:So I gotta shuffle first. What's the easiest way to determine the card on the bottom? It's just, just look at it. Always keep, but no, no, no.

Speaker 7:But I mean, when you shuffle, you always want to make, because I haven't looked.

Speaker 3:At the bottom card. Are you right or left-handed? Yes. Okay, so you're ambidextrous. No, I'm right-handed.

Speaker 7:But I haven't looked at the card at the bottom, or you don't know I've looked at the card at the bottom. I've now shuffled three times, even though I know that the card at the bottom is still the ace of hearts.

Speaker 3:So I think you answered your question. Okay, so that's all you gotta do then. It's a matter of popping down first. I don't know why I'm here.

Speaker 1:It's popping down first, right?

Speaker 3:Correct. And then doing that. Yes, and you do that sometimes. Thank you, Johnny. And then I go from here and then I flip the bottom. See, it's the flipping the bottom card. Right, do that in secret. Right. You got away from the audience. I did it a magical way, but you don't have to do that. Is the magical way, is it holding the whole deck like this?

Speaker 2:No, or do you literally mean before you arrive at the party?

Speaker 3:Listen, I'm not allowed to say too much, but like, is it? I don't know. Off camera. So then you do that, and then I say, all right, Adam, pick a card. Pick any card you want. Except for this one. Except for that one. Good. My 29th favorite card. Okay, so then you put the card back on top here. And then I got, so that's. Always say in the middle though. In the middle.

Speaker 1:Oh, right, not on top.

Speaker 3:It's never on top. And then this is a trick called Upsy Daisy. So, and it doesn't matter which card you pick. Right. If I say.

Speaker 2:Which one's gonna be on top?

Speaker 3:If I say the Ace of Hearts. Which is Danielle's favorite card.

Speaker 6:I love that card.

Speaker 3:It's crazy. And I snap like that. And then I go like that. And then, oh my God, it's the Ace of Hearts right there. Isn't that the.

Speaker 1:Most amazing thing you've ever done?

Speaker 3:And then if I go like this. And then I did, see then you can't, it's the flipping of the cards. I'm gonna show you.

Speaker 1:I know, that was a little, you like, you did it towards Daniel.

Speaker 3:Yeah, yeah, yeah, I gotta, guys, guys, guys. You're making it too hard. Okay. Yeah. You are overthinking. Was it the eight of diamonds? I want you to watch. Did I pick the right one? We are here. Was that right? Yeah. Okay. And we are here.

Speaker 5:We're taking those two cards here. We're gonna flip over this half face up and say, look, it could have been anything. We're gonna grab those two's cards and go, look, it could have been anything. We're gonna put them together.

Speaker 1:And you've already done the flip.

Speaker 4:Oh.

Speaker 3:Look at that. You make it look so easy, but it's not easy. I'm 20 years, man.

Speaker 7:Yeah.

Speaker 3:21 years of doing this. That's the, okay. Ooh, that one's cool.

Speaker 1:I mean, do you practice by, like, I mean, is it one of those things where you do... You practice in a mirror, right?

Speaker 3:But you take the two cards... Perfect practice makes perfect. And you go like, all right, it's... See, you think it's the same together. That is the toughest part. The six, and then you put it down, and it's like, not the six. Then it's like that. Okay.

Speaker 6:That's why it's a challenge. I think you can get this down, Will. Just watching you handle the cards, and you can figure this out.

Speaker 1:I don't know.

Speaker 3:They're sliding all over the place. They're new, of course. Because they're brand new.

Speaker 1:I was able to do that.

Speaker 3:That's a Charlier cut. That's wonderful.

Speaker 1:It's Charlize Theron cut?

Speaker 3:Yes, that's sure. Yes, that's perfect.

Speaker 2:Can I see this?

Speaker 3:It's a monster of a cut.

Speaker 2:I want to know how to do.

Speaker 1:Make it rain.

Speaker 3:You did it.

Speaker 1:Daniel Copperfield.

Speaker 3:That's good. That's very good.

Speaker 2:That's the one I want to know.

Speaker 1:How to do.

Speaker 3:I love that. Excellent. I want to try this. Okay, try it again. You do what you want.

Speaker 8:Shuffle.

Speaker 3:Excellent. They're so new. They're out of the box, man. Is it so much easier with beat up cards? Does anybody play an instrument?

Speaker 9:Somewhat.

Speaker 2:He plays the piano.

Speaker 1:Yeah, poorly.

Speaker 3:So, okay, you play the piano. Do you need your piano tuned? Yes.

Speaker 5:Is it easier to play a song when it's first tuned, or is it easier to play a song when it's middle tuned or out of tune?

Speaker 1:Middle tuned, I would say.

Speaker 3:So I shuffle a.

Speaker 5:Deck of cards a few times. I kind of break it in a little bit so that some of that stickiness goes away. But once they get too old, they've got to be thrown away. Middle is always the best. Not brand new out of the box and not completely unusable.

Speaker 3:So if you take one.

Speaker 2:Ryder, you don't have to clean up.

Speaker 3:Don't let me see it. Don't let me see it. And then go ahead and.

Speaker 1:Put it in the middle.

Speaker 3:Good, yes. Wait, I messed it up. Did you? Yeah, you know, here, take that back. I gotta do this hand. Put it in the middle. Oh, okay. Okay, like that.

Speaker 1:And that goes on top.

Speaker 3:That goes on top like that. And then I can pick any card I want. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. I don't know. Three of clubs. That's Arnold Patterson. And then you look at, where is it? Oh my God, it's the three of clubs. Whoa, Penn and Teller's favorite card. Isn't that the most amazing, now these have to stay together is the problem. In that, see, it could be anything. It could be these.

Speaker 2:Oh, no, keep them up. So once you say it could have been any of those.

Speaker 1:Keep them up there.

Speaker 3:So like this?

Speaker 2:Put them on top of the three.

Speaker 3:Maybe it would be better if you did that. Like if you switched your hand position. What do you mean? So maybe if you did the this, I'll demonstrate.

Speaker 5:So instead of doing this, maybe if you grabbed it here and then did that.

Speaker 3:Yeah. Okay, look at that. Boom, it's like that.

Speaker 7:And then you come back like this.

Speaker 3:And now it could have been any of these like that. And then no matter what, and then, oh, what was your card? Boom. And then you go like that and boom. your card was obviously the ten of diamonds. Excellent.

Speaker 1:Will wins it.

Speaker 7:So it is, it's just a matter of, it's hand placement and all the other, oh yikes.

Speaker 3:It's a lot to think about.

Speaker 4:It is a lot to think about. And also like, is it the top card or is it the bottom card?

Speaker 2:You know, like.

Speaker 3:It's a lot of memory magic, isn't there?

Speaker 6:Your brain is operating on this whole other level while the conversation is going on.

Speaker 5:I know so many magic tricks running through my head, I forget everything else in life. Like where I put my car keys, where I just, you know. What I'm supposed to do today, gone.

Speaker 3:But I know the magic trick. How do you get, okay. My priorities, they've gotta change. The trick you showed me at my party was very impressive. I don't remember what that is. Okay, so you came up to me, you opened a deck of cards, you told me to pick one. Sounds like me. I picked the card. So far. You're like, hold it to your chest, you go, now go over and look at your poster. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And my poster said, yeah. Excellent, yes, please. I need any deck of cards. Daniel's doing it, hang on. Excellent.

Speaker 4:I mean, I can look up any card, anything, snap of my hand, and I could have, let's say, Queen of Hearts.

Speaker 3:Ooh, that was a very nice presentation.

Speaker 7:Okay.

Speaker 1:That was very good. All right.

Speaker 4:But then, oh, yeah, so the Queen of Hearts. But, you know, it could have been any old card that I had said. It could have been literally any of those. Could have truly been.

Speaker 3:It's okay, flip it over, flip it over, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. Why is that one up? Yeah, yeah, and then cut the deck, it's fine, you're good.

Speaker 2:Okay, all right, and then we cut the deck here.

Speaker 3:Yeah, you're fine.

Speaker 2:And then your card would be that one that was upside down. It's nothing's going to be up now.

Speaker 3:Oh, my bad. Yeah. I don't understand what happens that next time. Up until that point, that was the best presentation yet.

Speaker 1:That was amazing.

Speaker 3:Magic yourself out.

Speaker 5:Because what I really loved about that, I want to say what I really loved, is that you went through the cards, understood that you hadn't said the card yet. What made that effect even better is that it was so off the cuff, and we had seen all of them face down.

Speaker 3:That was excellent. Kids at home.

Speaker 5:Watch that. It doesn't matter if the trick was completed in its entirety.

Speaker 3:Do that. Excellent.

Speaker 4:Okay, this is the part that then really is befuddling my mind. So let's say I shuffled and I know this two of hearts is on the bottom.

Speaker 3:I'll do it one more time.

Speaker 4:This two of hearts is on the bottom. Don't I want to turn that one upside down?

Speaker 3:Yes.

Speaker 2:Great, so I turned that one upside down.

Speaker 3:Or you could just do that before you even get to your people.

Speaker 4:Exactly, but that is what I did. I turned that one upside down. I asked Ryder then to pick a card. Ryder picks a card.

Speaker 2:He looked at it.

Speaker 3:Great.

Speaker 2:Then I said, you're going to cut.

Speaker 3:Cut it.

Speaker 2:I hadn't put it in the middle.

Speaker 9:This one's on top, this one that's.

Speaker 1:On the bottom here.

Speaker 2:And I go, you know what, it's amazing because I could do anything. It's a two of hearts.

Speaker 4:And I snap my fingers and woo, there is the two of hearts. But it could have been absolutely any of these. It could have been absolutely any of these right here.

Speaker 2:So I'm going to have you cut the deck.

Speaker 1:No, just snap and reveal my card.

Speaker 2:I only cut it because last time I screwed it up.

Speaker 1:Correct.

Speaker 3:And that was my fault.

Speaker 4:And now I'll be able to tell that your card, snap your finger please, was the.

Speaker 3:Now you flipped it again. Listen, but here's the crazy thing. Here's the crazy thing is that the presentation is so good. The presentation is so good. As long as I flip to execute it, it's great.

Speaker 1:I'm just gonna ask you to pick a card.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 1:Now, we are going to put it in the middle of the deck.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 1:By cutting it, right? Now I could say any card. Let's hope I remember what it was. I think it was a five of diamonds.

Speaker 3:Hmm. Yeah.

Speaker 1:Okay.

Speaker 3:Excellent.

Speaker 2:Beautiful.

Speaker 3:Yeah. Now it could have been any of them.

Speaker 1:Could have been.

Speaker 3:Oh, right.

Speaker 1:Any of these cards.

Speaker 7:Now he's got to flip that card too.

Speaker 3:So what I'm going to do now. Boom. There it is. Is.

Speaker 6:bring your card up, and your card is right there.

Speaker 3:There you go. Yeah. Okay. That's it. That's the one.

Speaker 2:So then when I said it could have been any of these, I take the card.

Speaker 3:You didn't flip the card next to it. You have to keep that one hidden. Secretive. Got it.

Speaker 5:Secretively hidden. So what I showed you at your party, go ahead, take whatever.

Speaker 3:Well, you're getting me to pick what a card you want me to pick, right? I don't know. I wasn't paying attention. Should I?

Speaker 7:Well, if you wrote it on the board before you get to me, then I have to pick whatever card you picked, right? Oh, sure.

Speaker 3:I don't remember. I honestly don't remember. What did you get? I got a six of hearts.

Speaker 2:Hmm, seems like that's not the one he wanted you to get.

Speaker 3:Yes. What is that? That's a tattoo.

Speaker 1:Tattoo.

Speaker 3:Wow, look. See, that's what I mean. So you made me pick the six of hearts. Did I? Yes, you did. Does anybody have a dollar bill on them? Yes. Here.

Speaker 2:Will always has cash.

Speaker 3:It's a New York thing. I always say it's a New York thing, because it is. You always have to have cash on you. Well, yeah. Hold on. I have a hole in my pocket and my pen fell. I've got one hand in my pocket and the other making a peace sign. That's ironic. I thought it was giving a high five. It should be. It's both.

Speaker 1:Multiple.

Speaker 2:It is.

Speaker 3:There's multiple. There's multiple. Many of us. Atlantis' eye.

Speaker 5:Have you ever done, like, the trick before where somebody, like, you give the magician a dollar bill?

Speaker 3:No. You've not?

Speaker 5:No.

Speaker 3:I have. You have? Mm-hmm. Okay. You want me to split the prices? Don't worry, there's no lemons. Okay.

Speaker 5:But what I will do, no, I just want to, here, hold that for a second. I was looking for this, and there's a reason. Because in order to make these, like, the best, you'd have to sign it.

Speaker 3:So open the bill.

Speaker 2:We should all sign it.

Speaker 3:Yeah, all of you sign it. All of you, everybody.

Speaker 2:And then we'll.

Speaker 3:Isn't this a federal dollar? Yeah, but it's your name, so I don't care.

Speaker 2:And then we can.

Speaker 3:So everybody knows. There's nothing there. Wilt Chamberlain. Yeah.

Speaker 1:I just wrote my name. I didn't even sign it.

Speaker 3:That's okay. Ryder.

Speaker 8:Ryder.

Speaker 3:Yeah, it doesn't matter. Oh, it is spelled with a Y. No, it's not. No, it's not. No, it's not.

Speaker 1:I'll accept it if anybody, yeah.

Speaker 3:I'll allow it. It's like Flynn Rider. I don't know. What was I doing? Dollar bills.

Speaker 2:Yes, dollar bills.

Speaker 3:Dollar bills are very, very important. If you do this, it does vanish. Anyone have a 20?

Speaker 2:No, I'm not giving you any more money. I'm sure.

Speaker 3:You know what? I may. Oh. Do you guys remember earlier in the show? I had that wallet.

Speaker 2:Yes, the very thick one with a card in it.

Speaker 3:With a card in it. It no longer has a card. Could you do the honors?

Speaker 2:Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1:There it is.

Speaker 3:But here's the thing. Normal tricks could end there. I don't want that to happen.

Speaker 5:So what I'm going to do is I'm going to open my phone, and I'm going to open my calculator here so that everybody can kind of see.

Speaker 2:Yeah.

Speaker 8:Ryder.

Speaker 3:Yes. I need a number. 20. Danielle? 87. That's very good.

Speaker 1:51.

Speaker 3:Everybody pick two-digit numbers. Should we not have? Does it matter? It doesn't matter. Okay. Do you want to change it? No, I'm good. Let's see.

Speaker 5:Okay, I, however, need it to be a bigger number. So, could you give me a three digit number?

Speaker 3:648. And a three digit number? 111.

Speaker 2:That's so good!

Speaker 3:Good, and then we have new things. Hold that. Ooh, may I have the pen? Yeah. Sure, good, great.

Speaker 5:Now, I'm slizdexic, which means I'm not going to be able to read those in the correct order. That's dyslexic for those of you paying attention. I can't afford it.

Speaker 3:By the way, your Xbox wants you to know that Jon Bon Jovi is now live. Thank God. Okay. Thank God. We're halfway there, living on a prayer.

Speaker 7:Good.

Speaker 3:Would you... Is that for real? Listen! I play Xbox with Jon Bon Jovi, okay? So sue me. We play a lot of Halo. There you go. He wanted you to know that. Maybe 2K. Could get down with some 2K. I don't know. It doesn't matter. Listen. He's live now. Great. Would you mind reading me that number out the loud? In order. Please, because otherwise, you know. 12 million. I could do it out of order.

Speaker 7:Million?

Speaker 3:Are you serious?

Speaker 5:Yeah.

Speaker 3:614,905. There it is.

Speaker 5:I left a piece of paper, Danielle, on top of Mr. Feeney before anything ever happened.

Speaker 2:Oh, my gosh. There is a piece of paper there.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 2:Yeah.

Speaker 3:Would you mind opening that piece of paper and reading it one digit at a time for me? One. Yes. Two.

Speaker 8:Yes.

Speaker 2:Six.

Speaker 3:Yes.

Speaker 5:One.

Speaker 3:Yes.

Speaker 8:Four.

Speaker 3:Yes.

Speaker 2:Nine-oh-five.

Speaker 3:Now here's the thing.

Speaker 6:Uh-huh.

Speaker 3:A normal trick would end there, and it would be a very good trick. Yes. I don't want that. I want a memory forever. What if we did this and added both of those together?

Speaker 7:Okay.

Speaker 3:So go ahead and press the plus sign. Okay. Put in again one, two. One, two. Six, one, four. Six, one, four. Nine, zero, five.

Speaker 1:Nine, zero, five.

Speaker 3:And then the equals. What's that the equals? 25 million. 229,810.

Speaker 7:Magic.

Speaker 3:Are there letters on the bottom of that paper? Yes. F and D. FD? Yeah. Oh, I know where this is going.

Speaker 2:Yeah, I do too. You just took you this long?

Speaker 5:That almost looks like the serial number of a dollar bill. Would you please read the serial number including the letters of the dollar.

Speaker 3:Bill, please?

Speaker 2:You can because I signed over it.

Speaker 3:Yeah, Danielle wrote over it. Directly over it. Good thing that there is two, but Oh, there you go. F25229810. What's the last letter? D. Thank you. And that is a memory. Yes.

Speaker 1:That's insane. Well, you don't want to leave Jon Bon Jovi waiting.

Speaker 3:Thank you.

Speaker 7:Thank you for joining us, strange warlock man.

Speaker 3:That's so good. So good. Oh, my God. I cannot believe it. Okay, can I just say, it is not actually Jon Bon Jovi. It's Chevy Chase's son-in-law. Oh, okay. His name is Jon Bon Jovi. His name's Jamba Ovi. Jamba Ovi.

Speaker 2:That's crazy.

Speaker 4:Well, I mean, Adam, thank you so much for sharing your mystery many skills with us.
