Speaker 1:All right, let's give it to you on a Saturday. Back-to-back classics. Thanks so much for finding us.
Speaker 2:Oh, and by the way, if anyone is in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, if you're in the Seattle area, October 7th, right, is the Jose and Friends.
Speaker 3:Yeah, Jose and Friends.
Speaker 2:Yeah, Ashton is considered a friend, which is good because he's also going to be doing stand-up.
Speaker 4:Is that right?
Speaker 5:It's weird because.
Speaker 3:I also put Ashton on the Jose and Enemies show.
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah.
Speaker 3:So he's kind of in the middle.
Speaker 1:I can't wait for the Jose and Frenemy show. Yeah. That's a very passive aggressive comedy show.
Speaker 5:Good for you, Ashton.
Speaker 1:Way to make it big on all the shows.
Speaker 3:Yeah. I'm going to do double time on that show. It's pretty cool.
Speaker 2:And where do they go if people want to go and see it on October 7th?
Speaker 3:Oh, it's at Muckleshoot Casino Resort in Auburn. It is a free show you just gotta show up and it always is standing room only so you do wanna get there early.
Speaker 2:So wear comfy shoes yeah okay I got you I got you alright before we get into back to back classics let's go over one comment who do you wanna highlight.
Speaker 5:Yeah Mickey Boss said sending love from Poland I enjoy listening to you always every single day I go to sleep to a second date update you like my lullaby.
Speaker 6:So strange I love it I love it thanks so much for listening from Poland.
Speaker 5:That's so cool have a good sleep yeah.
Speaker 1:Your back to back classics start right now.
Speaker 3:Alexis, how much do you need to know about a guy before you'd agree to go out on a date with him? I mean, you'd probably like to know if he has a job, what his hobbies are, how much longer he plans to live in his mother's basement. See, this might shock you, but the woman on the phone with us today agreed to meet a guy before she even knew his name.
Speaker 1:What?
Speaker 7:What the heck? I know.
Speaker 3:And it's all because of the grand romantic gesture he made. And she says it's the craziest thing that's ever happened to her in her life. You're going to hear the whole story in your second date update next.
Speaker 8:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Speaker 3:I am very curious to hear from the listener who wrote to us today. Because in her email, she says she met a guy one time.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:It wasn't on an app. and they never went on an actual date.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:Honestly, they don't really know anything about each other at all.
Speaker 4:What the heck?
Speaker 3:Is this like Craigslist misconnection? But yet still, she called him, quote, maybe the most romantic man I've ever met in my entire life.
Speaker 2:What?
Speaker 4:How?
Speaker 1:I know. How can he be romantic without knowing anything about each other?
Speaker 3:I'm wondering the same thing. How does she reach that conclusion? Let's find out. Her name is Tilly, and she's on the line right now. So Tilly, I just got to say, your email sounds full-blown crazy. Is that bad of me to say?
Speaker 9:No, it is crazy.
Speaker 6:That's literally why I'm calling you because I've never heard of a situation like this. I've never been in a situation like this.
Speaker 3:You didn't watch a guy propose in the most romantic way possible and then you fell in love with him because you saw how romantic he was.
Speaker 1:I'm thinking it's a movie. Oh, that could be it.
Speaker 6:I mean, it felt like a movie, like the meet cute moment.
Speaker 1:Okay. Slow down.
Speaker 2:If we're talking movie level romance, you've got to set the whole scene for us.
Speaker 3:Yeah, tell us the whole story.
Speaker 6:Okay, so here's the story. I'm at the gym, and I'm at, like, a pretty high-end gym.
Speaker 10:I got lucky.
Speaker 6:I got a, you know, a membership through my work situation.
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 4:Bougie.
Speaker 6:It's, like, one of the fancy gyms. There's, like, attendance, and there's, like, a juice cafe in the back.
Speaker 7:Oh, yeah.
Speaker 6:I've been working out.
Speaker 10:I'm actually almost done.
Speaker 6:Like, I'm on my treadmill. I'm cooling down.
Speaker 10:Okay.
Speaker 6:And this good-looking man comes up on the treadmill next to me, and we small talk. It's nothing crazy. Like, we talked for, like, less than 30 seconds. Like, it was quick.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but the timing's good because you're just walking, and he's just starting, so.
Speaker 6:Yeah, and I don't really think anything of it. I go into the locker room.
Speaker 9:I change.
Speaker 10:Okay. Literally.
Speaker 6:As I'm.
Speaker 9:Walking to my car, I hear, miss, miss, wait, wait.
Speaker 10:I turn around.
Speaker 6:It's one of the gym attendants.
Speaker 9:He has flowers and a card from this man that I just met. Like, honestly, this is part of the mystery because how did this man secure flowers that fast?
Speaker 5:And a card.
Speaker 3:That's insane.
Speaker 2:Okay, I am so jaded that my first thought is he's been watching you and was prepared for this moment.
Speaker 8:Is that possible?
Speaker 3:Have you seen him before in the gym?
Speaker 6:I guess it's possible, but I certainly didn't recognize him at all.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:It felt spontaneous. That's crazy.
Speaker 6:It felt very spontaneous, which was part of the reason I'm like, how did you manage that? But there's a number on the card. So I obviously text the number and I'm like, thank you so much for the flowers.
Speaker 10:I'm so flattered.
Speaker 6:But he is not the one that answered the text. It was somebody that was like, oh, this is his assistant.
Speaker 4:Oh. Oh.
Speaker 3:If he has an assistant, then yeah, they can make it happen even quicker.
Speaker 2:It's kind of weird that he gave you his assistant's phone number and not his phone number.
Speaker 5:I was just about to say that.
Speaker 3:Unless he wanted her to know that he had an assistant.
Speaker 1:Like, he knew she'd text her. As a flex?
Speaker 3:That's possible. It's something Jose would for sure do.
Speaker 1:Absolutely.
Speaker 5:By the way, I have two agents.
Speaker 3:I don't know if anybody realizes.
Speaker 10:Okay, okay.
Speaker 3:Let's get away from that.
Speaker 1:Hey, did you ever actually talk to him? Like, do we know his name?
Speaker 6:That's the thing.
Speaker 10:I don't know his name.
Speaker 4:What?
Speaker 5:He didn't even send a good first text introducing himself?
Speaker 6:No, the assistant says, there is actually a gift waiting for you at a jewelry store and gives me an address.
Speaker 3:Excuse me?
Speaker 1:Whoa. I don't know if this is romantic anymore. Now I'm getting worried.
Speaker 3:Well, nobody cares what you think. It's only if Tilly thinks it's romantic. This feels like a sugar baby situation.
Speaker 5:It feels like I don't have a good personality, so let me buy you things.
Speaker 1:Did you go to the jewelry store?
Speaker 10:I was curious.
Speaker 9:Of course I went.
Speaker 6:I'm in it for the plot.
Speaker 3:Yeah. You're doing this for the plot alone, Tilly. So we support you in this decision. What happened at the jewelry store?
Speaker 6:I go to the jewelry store and there is a bracelet waiting there for me. And I will say, like, I don't feel like I can be bought, but I can be impressed. And it's between flowers and a bracelet. I'm kind of impressed, even though I don't know anything about him, including his name.
Speaker 1:So wait, wait, wait.
Speaker 3:Yeah, oh my God. This is wild.
Speaker 1:There's no setup of a date?
Speaker 9:Okay, so I get the bracelet and then I text the only number I have back to the assistant and I'm basically like, let's set this up.
Speaker 6:Like, how do we meet or whatever? So we set up a whole situation, a time and a place to meet. And then I go there and... He doesn't show up, and now nobody's answering this number.
Speaker 3:This means, like, he does this, like, he set the trap, he gives you jewelry, he doesn't show up.
Speaker 1:But why?
Speaker 3:Now you're like, what is going on, and now you have to get a hold of him. Yes, I want to be in that game. Pop me into that Jumanji.
Speaker 5:It sounds like a horror game.
Speaker 1:It doesn't sound fun. It sounds like he's going to play a lot of games with her. I mean, why would he stand you up? Like, that's what I don't get.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 6:My friends think maybe he's married or maybe that it was some sort of scam, but if it was a scam, then where's the request to let's get my money or whatever?
Speaker 2:I don't know, but you better make sure that bracelet doesn't have a tracker in it.
Speaker 1:Dude, this is wild. This is a wild story.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:I mean, I was kind of skeptical at the start of this when you said he was the most romantic guy of all time, but after hearing the story, I think Brooke is 100% sold.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 3:In fact, she's probably ready to leave her husband depending on how this call goes when we come back. You're this nameless man.
Speaker 1:I already don't trust this guy at all.
Speaker 3:You're only saying that because you're jealous, Brooke. We're going to call this mystery guy in just a second.
Speaker 1:Or we'll call his assistant, you mean.
Speaker 3:Whoever it is, I'm excited to talk to anybody that picks up this phone number and try and get you your second date update right after this.
Speaker 8:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Speaker 3:Our listener Tilly told us in part one that she met the most romantic guy ever. And wow, she was not kidding. Met a guy on the treadmill at the gym. They talked for 30 seconds. But as she's leaving, just a few minutes later, she's being chased down, handed a giant bouquet of flowers.
Speaker 1:Not by him.
Speaker 3:From like the gym assistant guy is told it's from treadmill dude. He already has a handwritten note for her and a phone number for his assistant. Later, she's told there's a necklace and a bracelet waiting for her at a jewelry store, which turns out to be true.
Speaker 1:Well, I think it was just a bracelet. I mean, don't oversell it. It wasn't a necklace, Jim.
Speaker 10:Never mind.
Speaker 3:This guy sucks. Forget it. I thought he was romantic. You guys are right.
Speaker 4:He's a loser.
Speaker 3:It had gems on it. No, okay. It was pretty cool until the weird part was she was stood up by him waiting at a coffee shop where she thought they were going to meet.
Speaker 1:Tilly, are you nervous? What are you feeling right now?
Speaker 6:At this point, it's so crazy that I'm assuming it's not going to work out. But I cannot move on until I know what the story is.
Speaker 1:Yes, yes.
Speaker 3:Well, we love it. The bottom line is we need to figure out who this guy is or figure out some answers so Tilly can get some peace of mind.
Speaker 1:All we have is his assistant's number, right? So that's who we're calling?
Speaker 3:Yes, so that's all we have to go off of. We're just going to call it and see what happens.
Speaker 1:Do we have to dial a 1?
Speaker 2:I don't know, but be polite. Like, this guy sounds professional. We need to keep it buttoned up to get information out.
Speaker 3:I would take that advice and turn it right around at yourself. That would be really good.
Speaker 1:Aren't you guys worried?
Speaker 3:If he has an assistant, he's always busy. Like, we call and she's going to be like, he's not available.
Speaker 10:We'll see.
Speaker 3:Let's find out. Only one way to know. I'm going to dial this number. We'll see who picks up and what happens. But here we go.
Speaker 7:Hello?
Speaker 8:Hi.
Speaker 3:Uh, hi, my, uh, my name is Jeff.
Speaker 1:Professional Jeff.
Speaker 3:I don't even know who this is.
Speaker 6:Um, so hello.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 3:Hi.
Speaker 4:Sorry.
Speaker 3:Um, so I work for a radio show called broken Jeffrey in the morning. And, this is going to sound kind of odd because I don't really know who I'm calling for here. But we have a woman who is a friend of the show. Her name is Tilly. And I believe your boss sent her flowers and gave her a bracelet. You have the wrong person.
Speaker 4:Yeah, I don't want to talk about this.
Speaker 3:Well, just hold on. Do you know a lot about this?
Speaker 1:What do you mean you don't want to talk about this?
Speaker 4:What the heck? What?
Speaker 3:Was that a click?
Speaker 1:Are you kidding me?
Speaker 3:Did he hang up?
Speaker 4:Oh, no.
Speaker 1:Oh, he is not going to stand us up. You better call him back.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 1:It's rude.
Speaker 3:It's probably because you were scaring him, Brooke. I did not scare him.
Speaker 6:Well, call him back.
Speaker 3:Yes. Okay. I'm going to dial it again.
Speaker 10:Here we go.
Speaker 4:Hold on. I don't want to talk about this.
Speaker 3:Okay, coming in a little hot, sir.
Speaker 2:Nice of you.
Speaker 1:To answer, though.
Speaker 3:Thank you. Listen, we're not trying to get into anybody's business here, especially anybody with a lot of money, because our lawyers aren't good enough to handle anything like that. Yeah, I know. It seems like we don't. The thing is, we're just reaching out because we need to get a general answer about what happened with Tilly and this guy that we're trying to get a hold of.
Speaker 2:Yeah, because it started out romantic and now it's feeling not so great.
Speaker 3:That's the thing you don't know is our friend Tilly was completely blown away by this gesture. I'm assuming from your boss. I still don't know if that's true yet. We don't have closure here. But we're talking way too much, so I should just let you say something if you're still there.
Speaker 10:Oh, s * * *.
Speaker 8:Okay.
Speaker 4:Okay. What?
Speaker 3:What's going on?
Speaker 1:That is the most unprofessional thing an assistant can say. Come on.
Speaker 3:Don't berate him. We're going to lose him again.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:Do you know what I'm talking about with Tilly?
Speaker 4:I do.
Speaker 3:Okay. Well, what's going on? Can you fill us in? Because we're very confused.
Speaker 4:Okay. So here's the deal. This got messed up. It's way different than I thought it was going to go. Messed up?
Speaker 1:Wait.
Speaker 3:What got messed up?
Speaker 4:I'm not the guy that was on the treadmill.
Speaker 1:So you're the assistant.
Speaker 3:You're his assistant?
Speaker 10:Okay.
Speaker 4:I'm an assistant. I'm an assistant at the gym. What?
Speaker 1:Huh?
Speaker 3:I'm still not following.
Speaker 1:Wait, you're a gym employee? You work at the gym?
Speaker 4:I'm the one that brought her the flowers.
Speaker 2:Oh, you're the one that rushed out and brought the flowers from the treadmill guy to her.
Speaker 3:With the note, yes. Okay.
Speaker 1:Wait, why would she have your number? I thought she had the assistant's number.
Speaker 4:Yeah. This whole thing got messed up. That's what I'm saying. The whole thing got messed up.
Speaker 3:What the hell? You're going to have to explain a little bit because we were under the impression we were calling the assistant of the rich guy on the treadmill.
Speaker 4:I don't know if he has an assistant. I don't know.
Speaker 1:Do you have a name? What's your name?
Speaker 4:Mitchell.
Speaker 3:Okay, Mitchell. So tell us what you do know.
Speaker 4:I know I've had a crush on her for two months. Oh, no.
Speaker 3:You've had a crush on Tilly?
Speaker 4:Yeah. What?
Speaker 3:What the heck?
Speaker 8:Wait, wait, wait.
Speaker 1:Were the flowers not from the guy? Were the flowers from you?
Speaker 4:Yes.
Speaker 1:Oh, my God.
Speaker 10:Hold on.
Speaker 3:What? What's a treadmill guy?
Speaker 6:Where is he?
Speaker 3:Okay, now I'm totally thrown off.
Speaker 10:I'm, like, mad now.
Speaker 5:What the heck?
Speaker 3:Wait, you're saying.
Speaker 1:The flowers were from him is what he's saying?
Speaker 5:Right.
Speaker 4:I'd been planning to approach her for a couple of months. I did not know how to do it.
Speaker 3:Oh, God. Okay, because you see her in the gym because you work there.
Speaker 4:And I had flowers waiting for her that day.
Speaker 10:Oh.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 1:Why didn't you take credit for the flowers?
Speaker 4:Because I'm not rich. When I walked out to give her the flowers, it was like she was seeing just an employee. Oh, man.
Speaker 5:She didn't even say she liked rich guys, though.
Speaker 4:People go to that gym to meet rich guys.
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 5:Mitchell.
Speaker 3:Isn't she a rich girl?
Speaker 8:Mitchell.
Speaker 1:She goes to the gym. She goes to that gym because her work gives her a free membership there.
Speaker 6:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1:That's why she goes to the gym.
Speaker 4:And also to.
Speaker 7:Meet rich guys.
Speaker 1:No way.
Speaker 3:To his credit, it can be both.
Speaker 1:So wait, why... I don't understand still.
Speaker 6:I don't understand either.
Speaker 3:What is going on? Let's just break the facade and tell you. Mitchell, Tilly has actually been listening to this call on the other line, waiting to talk to you. I mean, not necessarily you, but I guess.
Speaker 10:Yeah, you.
Speaker 2:Well, she was waiting to talk to whoever gave her the flowers and the bracelet, which we haven't even gotten a close answer to.
Speaker 3:Wait a minute, the bracelet!
Speaker 7:Okay, yeah.
Speaker 4:This is so crazy.
Speaker 10:Hold on. Let's clear this up.
Speaker 6:So you've had a crush on me. You were planning a big romantic gesture. And then while you were in the midst of doing it, you somehow decided that I was just a gold digger and that the best course of action would be to lie to me.
Speaker 3:I mean, a gold, maybe bracelet digger.
Speaker 4:I wasn't just assuming you were a gold digger.
Speaker 6:Isn't that what you said? You said you came out, and I looked at you like you were just an employee at the gym, even though you are an employee at the gym, and I was just leaving the gym.
Speaker 4:Let's be honest. In the real world, you're not going out with a gym assistant.
Speaker 1:What?
Speaker 4:And as I was about to give you the flowers, I saw that look on your face, and that's when I knew that.
Speaker 1:Oh, bro.
Speaker 4:Wow.
Speaker 10:It's so ridiculous.
Speaker 6:The look on my face would have been, why is the gym assistant running at me with flowers? I mean, for you to put all this on me, you built this entire fantasy up in your head over the course of two months only to just decide that that's what I want. But how dare I? Like, what are you even saying? This doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 10:Mm hmm.
Speaker 4:And that's why I didn't go to the coffee shop. I figured it would end something like this. And that's what happened.
Speaker 6:No, you didn't figure it would end something like this because you figured it would never start because you figured I was going to judge you based on your job or how much money you had.
Speaker 4:I'd really like you to focus just a little more on the flowers and bracelets.
Speaker 3:Mitchell, that was nice that you did that.
Speaker 1:You got to hear her.
Speaker 6:I'm going to tell you what. I'm going to return the bracelet because I don't care what anybody's job is. But if that's what you think of me, then there's nothing here.
Speaker 1:Mitchell, you dug your own grave, man.
Speaker 4:So are you saying I can't, like, just say hello to you anymore when you come to the show?
Speaker 9:I can't imagine why you would want to at this point.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 4:Yeah, bro.
Speaker 1:Yeah, dude.
Speaker 3:What's his job if he's at the front?
Speaker 5:He might have to. He gets in trouble for being.
Speaker 3:He at least needs to, like, scan your card when you come in at a bare minimum.
Speaker 1:Mitchell, you need to have more confidence.
Speaker 2:She could have really fallen for you had you played this totally differently.
Speaker 4:I just, I think you're wrong there. I don't think it was going to happen.
Speaker 6:Michael, I'm going to tell you what you should do. Continue to judge people before you know them at all and see how well that works out for you because clearly it's going great.
Speaker 2:That was sarcasm, Mitchell, if you didn't catch it.
Speaker 3:Well, it's at this point that I would like to jump in and offer another date.
Speaker 1:I love when the most romantic stories end this way.
Speaker 3:See, now normally we would ask the person that we're calling, but in this situation since so much has happened and Things have changed. Tilly, we'll ask you first.
Speaker 6:Are you out of your mind?
Speaker 3:I only said that because Brooke was making me ask the question. So it's really her fault.
Speaker 6:How dare you, Brooke?
Speaker 3:That was really awful. This call didn't go the way that we wanted it to go. But Mitchell, do you have any last words for us or for Tilly?
Speaker 4:Look, I'm so sorry this whole thing went this way. It was a misunderstanding from get-go. But Tilly, if you could just next time you're at the gym, wipe down the equipment.
Speaker 10:After you use it.
Speaker 3:Oh, he has been watching her the entire time.
Speaker 1:You're that type of girl, Tilly?
Speaker 10:And now we're just spreading lies.
Speaker 6:I always wipe down my equipment.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 3:Well, at least Mitchell got a shot in on the way out. So there you go, Mitchell. Win for you.
Speaker 8:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 3:Well, that definitely blew up in the guy's face. Good Lord.
Speaker 1:It was a good lesson, though, to not assume things about people.
Speaker 3:Yeah, but if I am reading the text board right, a lot of people are saying Tilly needed to give Mitchell a break.
Speaker 1:She did go kind of hard.
Speaker 3:I fell back for him.
Speaker 5:She waited 30 minutes for a coffee shop for him to not show up.
Speaker 1:Yeah, he ditched her. He never showed up. And then he accused her of being a gold digger without even knowing her.
Speaker 3:Yeah, well, I understand that idea. But listen to this text at 78592. Someone said, clearly Mitchell is a guy who does not value himself. He has low self-image, low self-esteem, but we should still see him for what he is, a regular guy who had a big crush on a girl for two months. Yes, he had a bad plan, but he has a good heart.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but to me, that means you need to work on yourself and get your self-image up before you're... You gotta love yourself, man, before you can love somebody else.
Speaker 1:That's just how it goes.
Speaker 3:Doesn't excuse leaving someone on a date. That is true. I mean, all that is really well said. I do hope Mitchell knows that he's not the worst person in the world before he buys a gift for his next gym crush and stalks her for two months.
Speaker 10:Don't buy them gifts immediately.
Speaker 3:He's like, I'm broke.
Speaker 1:What are you guys thinking? He's got a whole bracelet to re-gift.
Speaker 3:He's good, man. That's fair.
Speaker 1:And a whole gym full of hot women. There you go.
Speaker 3:And I also hope Mitchell subscribes to our YouTube page and he listens to all of our second date updates while he's wiping sweat off of all the gym equipment.
Speaker 1:You know those high-end clients don't do it themselves.
Speaker 3:No, they don't. Go check that out if you haven't. Subscribe to our podcast. They're up available wherever you get yours at Brooke and Jeffrey.
Speaker 8:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 3:When I Googled the top three qualities women are attracted to in men, number one, confidence.
Speaker 1:Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3:Number two, humor.
Speaker 1:Yes.
Speaker 3:Makes us 0 for 2 so far on this show. Any guesses on sexy quality number three?
Speaker 1:Tall.
Speaker 4:Abs.
Speaker 3:Technically, the correct answer was ambition. Abs, ambition. They start with the same letter. That's what you're at, right? One of our listeners wants to toss that answer out in sub-in charades. Because for her, that was the hottest thing ever. And it's all going to make sense when you hear it in your second date update right after this.
Speaker 8:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 1:Second date update.
Speaker 3:We've been doing second date updates on our show for months. What now, over 10 years?
Speaker 10:Yeah.
Speaker 1:No longer. Definitely over 10 years.
Speaker 3:Feels like 100 years.
Speaker 1:50, 75.
Speaker 3:Somewhere around there. And it's interesting because when we first started, we found it so weird that more and more people were meeting strangers from online.
Speaker 4:Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3:And now we find it odd that more and more people are choosing to go back to meeting up in person again.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 3:Who wants to do that?
Speaker 1:It's so weird. We've kind of come full circle. Yeah.
Speaker 3:I know. It's like I met her at a bar and we're like, was it scary?
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 3:And that's exactly how I'm feeling about today's listener who reached out to us. Mia. She needs our help. Mia, what were you thinking? Meeting a guy in person? It must have been terrifying for you.
Speaker 10:Well, I mean, it was at a friend's housewarming party. So, you know, there were a bunch of people there.
Speaker 2:So you didn't you didn't scream and run until 30 minutes into the.
Speaker 10:I mean, he might be the one who screamed and ran. I'm totally into him.
Speaker 3:You met him at a house party. You had mutual friends. Clearly, what's the guy's name?
Speaker 10:Owen is his name.
Speaker 2:Can I ask real quick, was this like a mutual setup type of sitch?
Speaker 10:No, I don't think so. I mean, she certainly didn't say anything to me if it was.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 10:Stay with me because this sounds a little nerdy, but he was dominating charades.
Speaker 1:Yes.
Speaker 5:Brooke, it's exciting.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's hot.
Speaker 1:Show me how you mime that word, okay?
Speaker 3:When you said house party, I was picturing like beer pong and games like that.
Speaker 5:The game Fishbowl is so popular.
Speaker 1:I play that at every party with my friends. With your charades in it.
Speaker 2:You could drink fishbowls at the same time you play it.
Speaker 4:Oh, yeah.
Speaker 10:Yeah, there was a bit of alcohol going around for sure.
Speaker 3:Well, that's good to hear. So tell us about the connection that you and Owen had that happen.
Speaker 10:Well, I went up to him afterwards and was just like, wow, that was pretty impressive. You're really great at that. I'm like, I'm a terrible mime. So I was like, wow, you know. And then the very next day, he reached out to me through our mutual friend, Julia. He got my number through her. I know.
Speaker 4:Yay.
Speaker 1:He took the initiative.
Speaker 7:Yeah.
Speaker 1:And he took an extra step to even make it happen.
Speaker 10:Yeah, he took initiative and. We were just sort of texting kind of casually back and forth, but pretty quickly he turned it into a date. He was like, let's go to this retro arcade.
Speaker 1:Oh, like a barcade?
Speaker 8:Do they serve drinks there?
Speaker 10:Yeah, it's like a bar, but then there's like, you know, video games and there's like pinball and stuff.
Speaker 1:What was it like between you two when it was just one-on-one?
Speaker 10:I thought it was really good. I mean, we met there. But he had dressed up, you know, he looked really great.
Speaker 3:That's kind of cute to the bar or to the arcade.
Speaker 1:Yeah, what do you mean dressed up?
Speaker 3:Do you like in a tuxedo?
Speaker 10:No, not like tux, but like, I don't know, just like it puts some care into it.
Speaker 3:Yeah, the fact that he has pants on, that's a big win.
Speaker 1:Or a big loss, depending on what kind of date you want.
Speaker 3:True, if it's going that well, you might want them off.
Speaker 10:For first date, I'll take the pants.
Speaker 3:Okay, fair, fair. So, I mean, what were the highlights or lowlights? Like, paint the picture for us.
Speaker 10:Well, I'm really good at pinball, so it meant that I kind of got to show off that time.
Speaker 8:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Oh.
Speaker 3:Is this really a flex?
Speaker 1:Yeah, she's a flipper queen. Is that the name? I don't know.
Speaker 3:It took over the high score. Is that where we're at, where we're looking for in a significant other?
Speaker 2:I just think any time someone can nerd out about something that they're excited about is a positive. Their passion.
Speaker 1:Was he rooting you on at the pinball machine?
Speaker 6:Totally.
Speaker 8:Yeah.
Speaker 10:And it was just really fun. He had that same kind of energy as the first night that I'd seen him of just being really funny and really upbeat. And he shows me this picture of himself from high school that a friend had sent to him. And I'm like, oh, yeah, you know, he's kind of dorky then. But he goes, no, no, no. Look over there. The bartender has my same haircut. That's awesome. You know, he can kind of just, like, poke fun at himself.
Speaker 1:Oh, I was confused. I thought you meant bartender in the photo.
Speaker 10:Me too.
Speaker 1:And I'm like, wow, how did you get into a bar? I'm sorry. Bartender in the.
Speaker 2:Arcade has the same photo, has the same haircut as him in high school.
Speaker 3:I thought it was in the picture.
Speaker 2:No, no.
Speaker 3:I get it. So you both went over to the bartender and gave him a wedgie.
Speaker 1:To get back into the mode?
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 3:Tell us, how did it end that night?
Speaker 10:There was a nice kiss at my car as I was leaving.
Speaker 4:Good.
Speaker 3:Cute.
Speaker 10:Yeah, I mean, it seemed like a really good date. Like, there's no red flags, but that was six days ago.
Speaker 3:Six days.
Speaker 10:And he didn't ghost me, but he's not initiating any conversation, and he's like... one-word responses. Like, I'm like, hey, how was your day? He's like, good. Oh.
Speaker 9:Oh, man.
Speaker 1:That feels so bad. Sometimes I'm like, I just wish they'd just leave you alone then.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 1:You know, like, why even write the one word?
Speaker 3:I mean, sometimes I'll say that, but then I'll follow it if I'm really busy with being like, good, and then be like, sorry, it's short text.
Speaker 1:I'm really busy.
Speaker 3:Like, we'll talk later.
Speaker 4:Totally.
Speaker 3:You know, like, just to clarify, because it does feel kind of close. Well, I don't know. Mia, what did you think he meant by good?
Speaker 5:Well, I'm just.
Speaker 10:Figuring he doesn't want to hear from me, but he's not ghosting me because we have this mutual friend. I asked her about it and she's like, oh, he didn't say anything to me.
Speaker 5:Oh, I forget about the friend.
Speaker 1:So he can really ghost you because you guys are going to see each other maybe someday.
Speaker 7:All right.
Speaker 3:You're getting the vibe that he's kind of politely trying to avoid you now. So we need to figure out what's really going on.
Speaker 1:We're not going to let that happen. No, no.
Speaker 5:No politeness here.
Speaker 10:That's his answer, though.
Speaker 5:That's his answer.
Speaker 3:Like, oh, I'm not interested. No, we're going to make fun of him for that answer.
Speaker 1:Thank you. And for that bad haircut he had in high school.
Speaker 3:Exactly. We're going to bully him into a second date with you whether he wants it or not when we come back. Call him and get you a second date update.
Speaker 10:Go get him.
Speaker 3:We'll do it next.
Speaker 8:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 1:Second date update.
Speaker 3:Every man knows if a woman tells you it's fine.
Speaker 10:Yeah.
Speaker 3:Things are not fine at all so when our listener mia texted her date owen asking how his day was going and he replied good she knew instantly yikes good that's bad right mia.
Speaker 10:Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 3:I'm laughing because every single person in the room is totally following along. The girls are like, yep, that's right.
Speaker 10:It's true.
Speaker 3:She says that's right.
Speaker 1:You say that's right. Doesn't everyone agree with that?
Speaker 3:I mean, even I have to agree, but come.
Speaker 5:On, guys. It's a little better than fine, though. There's hope.
Speaker 10:Yeah.
Speaker 5:It is better.
Speaker 3:It's weird because your arcade date, the way you described it to us, sounded like it went just fine. Like, I would go as far to say it went good, but maybe that's bad. Is good bad? I don't know.
Speaker 1:It went great because there was a kiss at the end.
Speaker 4:Oh, yeah.
Speaker 3:That is undeniably a good sign. That's a good point. But who knows what words mean anymore? So it's safer to just call Owen and ask for his thoughts directly on it.
Speaker 1:You know, sometimes you got to read between the lines, Jeff. It's not just black and white all the time.
Speaker 3:Oh, I see what you're saying. I'm reading in between the lines of that sentence right there. Should you be?
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Does she want you to read each other's lines?
Speaker 5:I'm thumbs downing this message.
Speaker 6:Uh-oh, uh-oh.
Speaker 3:I don't know what to do other than just dial Owen's number and pray that he answers. Welcome to being a man. Okay. Mia, good luck to us on this.
Speaker 10:Good luck to you.
Speaker 3:What about me?
Speaker 1:It's more about her than you or me.
Speaker 3:You have to read between the lines of what I said, too.
Speaker 1:No. We only take you literally.
Speaker 6:We're only one-dimensional, Jim.
Speaker 3:You know what? It's fine. I'm just going to dial the number.
Speaker 4:Here we go. Hello?
Speaker 3:Hey, is this Owen?
Speaker 7:Yeah, this is Owen. Who is this?
Speaker 1:Hey, man.
Speaker 3:Thanks for answering. We're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Speaker 5:Hey, Owen.
Speaker 1:Welcome to the show.
Speaker 3:How's it going, Owen? I've been saving that one.
Speaker 1:That's pretty good.
Speaker 7:Clever.
Speaker 3:Owen, you there?
Speaker 10:Yeah, I just.
Speaker 7:What's going on?
Speaker 4:Sorry.
Speaker 6:Hey, man.
Speaker 3:So, yeah, this is... It's a segment we do. It's called The Second Date Update.
Speaker 10:Okay.
Speaker 3:Okay. I don't know if you're familiar with it.
Speaker 7:But I'm not familiar with it now.
Speaker 3:OK, well, just to clue you in, it's basically where we help out our listeners. If they've gone out with somebody on a date recently and they're not getting a call back for a second meetup, they come to us to try and reach out and figure out if there's a reason why.
Speaker 2:OK.
Speaker 3:And so we heard through the grapevine that you are really good at charades.
Speaker 2:It is so disappointing this is a radio show because there's no way for us to tell.
Speaker 3:Oh, yeah, we can't let you prove it.
Speaker 7:So, um, what are our charades now?
Speaker 10:I'm sorry.
Speaker 3:This is still pretty random. Yeah, so I know it's a little bit of a deep cut, but we heard that from Mia, the girl that you went on a date with after the housewarming party you met her at.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Did you like Mia? Did you guys have a good time?
Speaker 7:The date was pretty good, but a few days later, I did look her up on social media and.
Speaker 1:Okay, normal.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's very normal. How does that change things?
Speaker 7:Look, I don't know if I'm comfortable telling you guys.
Speaker 2:I mean, if it's on social media, it's obviously not something she's trying to hide.
Speaker 1:What did you see? Like a picture or a post?
Speaker 7:Okay, I guess I'll just tell you guys. So she was in like a wedding dress doing like wedding things.
Speaker 1:Doing what?
Speaker 4:What?
Speaker 7:And so how are you reading that as she's obviously married?
Speaker 3:Yeah, you don't just put on a wedding dress usually.
Speaker 5:Modeling, people do.
Speaker 3:Wedding dress Wednesdays at the office, we do that sometimes. Wedding dress Wednesdays? Why do I always have to hold Jeff's veil? I don't understand. How are you reading that, Owen?
Speaker 7:I'm not sure exactly how to read it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, but that's so weird. It's a lot. You think about it.
Speaker 2:Owen, you got her phone number from your guys' mutual friend. Why wouldn't your mutual friend have given you a heads up if she was married? Yeah.
Speaker 10:There's no chance.
Speaker 7:I did speak to our mutual friend and she's only known her for a few months. She doesn't know about it. I mean, I don't know if that means it did or didn't happen. We're not sure.
Speaker 1:Well, you can't write her off. You got to just ask her.
Speaker 7:You know, I don't really want to be a part of any kind of drama. I mean, if she got married, I mean, if it's new or old, it's just not something I don't think I'm going to be into.
Speaker 1:But you don't know what it is yet.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and the good news is these second date calls, usually very low drama. And we can prove that to you by introducing you to Mia on the other line of this call, who's been quietly listening the entire time.
Speaker 10:Hey, Owen.
Speaker 7:Why is she on the phone?
Speaker 3:Well, that's kind of how we make this segment work, is by having them quietly listen in to hear the reason they're not getting called back.
Speaker 7:Well, you need to tell me stuff that if I'm going to say stuff like that.
Speaker 3:Well, that's going to make it more dramatic. I'm trying to give it low drama. And would you have been honest if you knew she was on the.
Speaker 4:Line, bro?
Speaker 1:It's on her social media. She knows it's there.
Speaker 5:Yeah, you could have said much worse.
Speaker 1:Yes. Now she has a chance to explain.
Speaker 3:So go ahead, Mia, jump in. And what's the deal with your wedding dress picture that you have online?
Speaker 10:Okay, I did do a photo shoot in a wedding dress.
Speaker 3:Why? What's the point of that?
Speaker 1:She's like, it was for a wedding that I was in.
Speaker 3:But, you know. Wedding dresses are typically worn at weddings. But I'm not married.
Speaker 10:Well, it was sort of a wedding without a groom, you know. Like, I want to get married sometime. I love love. And my friend was like, look, you have been wanting this for so long and you're not doing anything about it. You need to do more to manifest it in the world, you know, to like put the desire out there. So I just did this little wedding and a photo shoot, had a little party. Like, we cut cake. I danced with my dad.
Speaker 6:You paid for a fake wedding?
Speaker 10:Yeah, it's like I wanted the party, and I wanted to, like, just put it out into the world that I'm ready for that.
Speaker 3:That's, like, kind of cute.
Speaker 1:I mean, what does Owen think?
Speaker 3:Yeah, Owen, that's not weird, right? She had a wedding for herself.
Speaker 7:Yeah, I think that's pretty weird.
Speaker 4:Really?
Speaker 3:Really? I mean, I'm not conventional, that's for sure. But weird. I mean, she's manifesting, right?
Speaker 1:They always say like dream boards and stuff.
Speaker 3:Brooke, it seems like you're a little bit on the fence about this. Where's your head at?
Speaker 1:I don't know. I mean, I could see both sides. That's a lot to give any other single person all at once.
Speaker 5:I think you need to edit the caption on that photo to say, I am not married.
Speaker 1:Disclaimer.
Speaker 6:Oh, yes.
Speaker 1:I don't know that that helps.
Speaker 3:Or like my future wedding. I don't know.
Speaker 1:Owen, where are you at with this?
Speaker 7:Well, I don't know. I mean, like you said, the guy or guys that you're going to date are going to see this. So that could put a lot of pressure on a person.
Speaker 3:Clearly, we need to get you into a tuxedo and have you slow dance with your mom for you to really understand what's going on here.
Speaker 10:I just feel like my doing this means I got the party, so it actually takes the pressure off of any guy that I'm dating.
Speaker 3:Sure, no. That'll be your second wedding then if you ever get married. It doesn't even count then.
Speaker 1:Hey, second weddings count. People have second weddings all the time.
Speaker 3:Do you divorce yourself then and then start over? It's not a legal marriage, Jose, so you don't have to worry about all the minutia of it. The bottom line we're trying to figure out is, fake wedding pictures aside, do you feel like you have a connection with each other?
Speaker 1:You guys sounded so cute together. Like, you bonded.
Speaker 2:You had great chemistry.
Speaker 6:You got to the bottom of this really quickly.
Speaker 1:A good first kiss.
Speaker 3:And if any of that is true, then it's worth pursuing another date, and we would pay for it.
Speaker 7:I got to be honest with you. I don't think this is going to work out between us, and I'm just going to bow out.
Speaker 6:Aw.
Speaker 1:Wow, he's got cold feet.
Speaker 10:He's got cold feet.
Speaker 3:Owen, she's good at pinball. You can't forget that.
Speaker 7:She's actually great at pinball, and I wish she would have posted that on social media instead.
Speaker 3:She still can if you're willing to give her a shot. She'll just be in a wedding dress.
Speaker 10:Owen, I had a really fun time on our date. I thought we had a really good connection. I just don't know why this feels so weird, because I want to be married, and that's not that unusual.
Speaker 3:Well, I mean, the picture is a little bit unusual, especially the photo of you dancing with your dad and cutting the wedding cake and throwing the bouquet.
Speaker 1:I bet you had a lot of likes, though.
Speaker 3:That's true.
Speaker 1:My wedding photos got me so many likes.
Speaker 5:Hey, maybe I should take some.
Speaker 1:Yeah, seriously.
Speaker 3:But, Olin, I mean, this is the last time I'll ask. Will you give Mia one more chance? It sounds like you're asking. Will you give Mia? I'm down on one knee. Will you take Mia to be your lawfully wedded date for one more night? And we'll pay for it.
Speaker 7:I hate to say it again, but just no.
Speaker 4:Oh, man, we tried.
Speaker 1:Oh, man, Mia.
Speaker 10:Well, I don't have to lend her anymore, so thanks, guys.
Speaker 3:You still sound so nice.
Speaker 1:I feel like we can hook her up with someone.
Speaker 2:Maybe make your social media private, and that way you can explain it before people see it.
Speaker 10:My goal is to put it out there in the universe. It's not to be private. It's going to be out there public for everybody to see. Maybe that's my screening mechanism. If a guy can't handle it, then he's not right for me.
Speaker 1:Oh, it's going to be your new standard. Her new handle is when Mia gets married. Oh, I love it.
Speaker 6:I'm going to follow.
Speaker 3:Good luck for the next 20 years of dating, Mia.
Speaker 6:No doubt.
Speaker 3:Man, I don't know if I can do these much longer.
Speaker 1:Why? Did they break you?
Speaker 3:I get too invested, so when they say no, I feel like I'm getting rejected for a second.
Speaker 2:Oh, Jeff.
Speaker 3:I do kind of feel like she should have got a date, or she should still.
Speaker 6:I don't know.
Speaker 1:I can also understand his side, though. It'd be a lot to see that.
Speaker 2:Like, if I saw a dude in a tux pretending to have a wedding on Instagram after I went out with him, it'd be hard for me.
Speaker 3:Yeah, but it is a bummer because Mia was, and I'm going to actually use Brooke's words here, she was just being her authentic self.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 3:She said, I'm not going to hide my real ambitions. I'm just going to put it out into the universe and see what comes back to me.
Speaker 1:I agree with that, but I didn't ever use those words.
Speaker 6:But, yeah.
Speaker 3:You've used those words at some point. We'll edit it together. I just really hope that Mia finds love and stays far, far away from our show as long as possible because I can't take any more rejection. I can't do it.
Speaker 1:You're so fragile.
Speaker 3:What if she finds a guy who just has a tux in his picture? That would be great. Do it on somebody else's show.
