Speaker 1:Hey, welcome to the Second Date Podcast. Thank you so much for being here. We don't normally do this, but you are really special to us. So, Jose is going to give out his personal phone number right now.

Speaker 2:Yeah! Okay.

Speaker 3:If you need to call him.

Speaker 2:So, text 78592. Okay.

Speaker 3:That's our show's text board.

Speaker 2:If you're lonely, you can text us. I'm on it all night long.

Speaker 1:Okay.

Speaker 3:So, like, 1-800- So you're on it more than your own phone texting, basically. I mean, it's a better way to reach him. That's all we're saying.

Speaker 1:And don't forget, we've got 45 more minutes, a full show, an hour long.

Speaker 3:Oh, my God. Can you take that much? If you want it, go for it. It's over at the Brooke and Jeffrey main podcast feed. But right now, we're all about the second date. So let's get it started. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 4:Second date update.

Speaker 2:Sometimes the best things in life come from total failure. That's actually a pretty big statement. Just look at us. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 3:That's not what I was saying. That's accurate.

Speaker 2:Brooke went to school to become a serious journalist. And now, yikes.

Speaker 3:Obviously gave up on that dream a long time ago.

Speaker 2:And it only gets sadder as you go around this room. So we're not going to do that. Yeah, stop. We're just going to go right to our listener, Gabby, who says she attended a unique type of singles event that didn't quite end in success. Which makes me wonder, why is she on the phone with us then? Let's find out. Gabby, welcome to the show.

Speaker 4:Hey guys, how you doing?

Speaker 3:You're talking to a room full of failures, so we're great.

Speaker 2:I hope you're ready to go down with the ship. Tell us what the story is with this failed date event that you went to. What was this?

Speaker 4:Okay, well, I'm just so tired of dating apps. All of my friends and I have kind of sworn off of them because it's just a show. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3:We're just going to drop that. Okay. Maybe we're on the radio.

Speaker 2:It's okay. We're all failing together. Let's remember that. That's right. We're all failures here. So keep going.

Speaker 4:Well, sorry, but I just wanted to meet people in other ways. So I found a movie theater match night.

Speaker 3:What does that mean?

Speaker 2:That sounds like a disaster. Yeah, tell us about it. I think it sounds cool.

Speaker 4:It's billed as an event for singles who like movies and want to meet other people who enjoy going to see things in the theaters.

Speaker 3:Oh, movie buffs. How do you meet people during a movie? You're not supposed to talk.

Speaker 1:Especially around, like, movie buffs who are, like, watching.

Speaker 4:Well, like, theoretically, you would go to something like that and then there would be, like, a mixer or, like, an icebreaker or something, but... That wasn't how it was at all. It was exactly what you're afraid of.

Speaker 2:Oh.

Speaker 3:Y'all just went into a dark theater and sat by yourselves?

Speaker 2:Yeah. Didn't speak to each other?

Speaker 3:The theater's really trying to get new customers.

Speaker 4:But it also, like, it had the population diversity of Alaska. It was, like, 75% men.

Speaker 1:Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2:Oh, okay.

Speaker 1:That was a really accurate description.

Speaker 2:Yikes, men. Oh, God. I am so sorry. The ratio was off.

Speaker 3:That's good odds for you, then.

Speaker 2:Oh, that's a good point. That's true.

Speaker 1:Yeah, but it was so weird.

Speaker 4:Everyone just kind of stayed in their seat. I paid $ 16. 99 to look at strangers and have them look back at me.

Speaker 2:And the guys are like, we're all the chicks. Are they supposed to just come and sit on us?

Speaker 3:I don't think that's how these guys are talking.

Speaker 2:Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3:They're probably like, just count movie price.

Speaker 2:I'm a girl bag.

Speaker 1:I want you to think about a room full of our technical director active.

Speaker 2:Because he is a huge movie buff, that's right. And he is an absolute treasure, by the way.

Speaker 4:Yes, he is.

Speaker 2:So let's not disparage Ashton. So if you didn't get to talk to any of these people, what are you doing with the second date update?

Speaker 4:Okay, so as the credits started rolling, people stood up and looked around and then just started walking out.

Speaker 2:Well, the lights finally turned on. Well, if there's no other, like, events planned for it other than to watch a movie, like, what are you supposed to do?

Speaker 3:I mean, probably everyone in that theater is feeling the same as you. Yeah.

Speaker 4:I guess so. I feel like I would imagine the men were disappointed in the female turnout, but I stayed, I watched the credits, and then there was a guy that was there to, like, clean the theater, and he started chatting with me and asking how.

Speaker 2:The event was, and I told him the truth, that it.

Speaker 1:I can't believe that the guy cleaning the theater is the only man who approached you.

Speaker 3:75% men and they don't go talk to any of the women.

Speaker 4:It was very weird, but he was very sweet and he.

Speaker 2:Said he was sorry and... He flirted back.

Speaker 4:And told me that I didn't need the event anyway because I was too pretty.

Speaker 2:And he asked me out to drink. He's like, wow, there's some unfinished drinks right over here. You want a blue slushy? Put them together. I can do that because I work here. What a charmer.

Speaker 3:I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:We are.

Speaker 4:Yes.

Speaker 2:Sorry. Again, you're talking to failures. So we're speaking out of a place of total bitterness here.

Speaker 3:How are drinks? Did you go?

Speaker 4:Well, we did, but we started at the movie theater. So we met back at the movie theater. We watched a movie together and then we went.

Speaker 2:Hold on.

Speaker 3:Is this a different day?

Speaker 4:Yeah, a different day.

Speaker 3:Oh, that's exhausting.

Speaker 1:He's gone through with a two-hour movie. No, no, I thought it was sweet.

Speaker 4:He knew I was there because I wanted to meet more people who liked movies, so it.

Speaker 2:Made sense to ask me to a movie date, and that's what I'm saying. He was so cute.

Speaker 4:He was really considerate.

Speaker 2:And smart, but now he just won't.

Speaker 4:Call me back.

Speaker 2:That's so ironic. Like the one guy who wasn't there for a dating event, you naturally met someone.

Speaker 3:Have you been back to the theater since?

Speaker 4:No, but I've been thinking about stopping by, but I don't want to be weird.

Speaker 2:Did you get the feeling that maybe he had some like player vibes?

Speaker 3:What?

Speaker 2:I mean, movie ushers do have a reputation.

Speaker 1:Yeah.

Speaker 2:The high schoolers? Yeah. I mean, they get all the girls in the back row.

Speaker 1:I'm sure he's just sweeping up after every singles event at this place. Or just waiting for the lone women to still sit in the theater while the credits roll.

Speaker 2:You seem to know his way around this time. Or it's an undercover boss situation, and this guy owns a theater. Oh, it could be.

Speaker 4:You know? I don't know.

Speaker 2:I mean, these are all some of the questions we should probably... I.

Speaker 3:Don't think so. We should ask if he's a player.

Speaker 4:All right.

Speaker 2:We'll come up with some better questions when we call him. Did we get his name, by the way? I don't even remember.

Speaker 4:His name was Noah.

Speaker 2:Noah.

Speaker 4:That's a player.

Speaker 2:Like the notebook. Oh, good memory, Jeff.

Speaker 1:Noah is like the most common male name right now.

Speaker 2:Most common player. We'll find out when we come back and do your second date update right after this. Hold on.

Speaker 3:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.

Speaker 2:What happens when you can't even get the movie theater janitor to call you back?

Speaker 3:Okay, listen. It's not just a janitor. It's an usher. They do all the things, Jeff, okay?

Speaker 2:Yes.

Speaker 1:Okay.

Speaker 3:Well, I'm just saying. When you work in a theater, you don't just clean or you don't just do one thing. That's a good point.

Speaker 2:They do everything.

Speaker 3:I know you've.

Speaker 1:Never worked minimum wage in your life, Jeff, but I'm just trying to help you out here.

Speaker 2:Okay, that's a fair point. When you can't get the minimum wage movie theater employee to call you back. At that point, sure, you could go on Plenty of Fish. But isn't your dad already on there? Oh, my God. What is this whole intro? I'm saying that's why Gabby has turned to us at her lowest moment in her dating lifespan to find out why a guy making probably less than minimum wage, holding a broom and a scooper won't come along and scoop her up. Now he's discount minimum wage?

Speaker 3:Dude, this guy sounded incredible. He was sweet. He was understanding. He was intelligent. Jeff, do not.

Speaker 2:Undersell this man. Careful, Gabby. Brooke's going to move in on your man if we're not careful. She loves him. But I don't know. We're trying to figure out why he wouldn't be calling him back because you're right. Gabby seemed to have a great time with him. Maybe he's just busy and there's a ton of gummy worms stuck to the back of people's chairs. And he just can't get to all of them and reach out to you. That's what we hope, Gabby.

Speaker 1:Aww.

Speaker 2:Right?

Speaker 4:I don't know anymore. I'm just so worried that I don't know what I could have done to make him not want to hear from me.

Speaker 2:Yeah, you guys didn't get, like, wasted or anything, right?

Speaker 4:No, no, not at all. That's the problem.

Speaker 2:That's the problem. There you go. We've answered it. But let's just call him. We'll see what state of mind he's in and if he has any answers for us. Here we go.

Speaker 3:Let's maybe talk more kindly about his job, Jeff. I'm just saying.

Speaker 2:I'm just describing exactly what he does. That's all it is. Let's call him.

Speaker 4:Hello?

Speaker 2:Hey, is this Noah? Yeah, who's speaking? My name is Jeff from a show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. Sorry, are you in a bathroom right now?

Speaker 3:That's such a personal question.

Speaker 2:You don't have to answer that. There's an echo. If you're in the middle of business, I don't want to interrupt. No, not in the bathroom.

Speaker 4:Okay.

Speaker 2:Sorry, no, we're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. We're really glad that you answered the phone, by the way.

Speaker 3:Thank you for that.

Speaker 2:Yeah. What is this about? Oh, yeah. Good question. Let's get right to it. This is a segment we do called the Second Date Update. And it's a good thing because it means one of our listeners is trying to get a hold of you after you went out on a date with them.

Speaker 3:Ooh, isn't that exciting? Oh, okay.

Speaker 2:I don't know what you're talking about.

Speaker 4:What?

Speaker 3:Her description of you, you were a lot smoother talker.

Speaker 2:Remember what your advice was about being kind, Brooke? I am being kind. I don't know about that. Anyway, Noah, so listen, this is a woman that you went out with named Gabby. Oh, really? Yeah. You sound so surprised.

Speaker 3:I guess I just thought she was nice, and I just didn't think that she was interested in me, really. What?

Speaker 1:Oh.

Speaker 4:Oh, my God.

Speaker 3:She had such glowing things to say about you.

Speaker 1:She described you as intelligent and different from all the other guys that she'd been meeting.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 2:And that was like a dating event that was happening there. I don't know if you knew that.

Speaker 3:I was wondering what was going on, but I didn't realize that she thought any of these things.

Speaker 4:Oh, really?

Speaker 3:What did you think she thought?

Speaker 1:I mean, I.

Speaker 3:Thought she was taking pity on me to be completely honest. I mean, I work in a guy who like reached up after movies and I thought that she just really liked watching.

Speaker 2:The credits and saw me and we'll make some conversation. And I thought I kind of like cornered her or something. And she felt weird. I mean, why would you think that way if you know that she's trying to reach you right now and you're not calling her back? Like, that doesn't match up.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 2:I mean, I know she's reaching out to me, but I know she really doesn't really want to go out with me.

Speaker 4:What? Oh, no.

Speaker 2:It's one of those fake I want to go out with you.

Speaker 3:You need more confidence.

Speaker 2:I just work in a movie theater, and I sweep up after people. I pick up popcorn, and she said she was like a veterinarian. You do more than that. Tell them, bro. You're an usher.

Speaker 3:Here's the thing. Like, I don't think that matters to Gabby.

Speaker 4:I don't know.

Speaker 2:People have said that before, and then they kind of change their mind halfway through, and I just know how this is going to end and how this movie ends. So you feel like you know that she's interested, but you don't want to pursue it because you feel like you don't deserve her? Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I just think that she's going to ditch me as soon as she kind of settles in and realizes what I have to offer.

Speaker 1:No!

Speaker 2:Oh, come on.

Speaker 1:Why don't you believe in yourself? I mean, is this the job you want for the rest of your life? Or are you working towards something more? I mean, I do have aspirations, but I'm just like, I don't want her to think that I'm like a loser.

Speaker 4:And I know how it's going to end. I know that she's going to just ditch me eventually. Oh, man.

Speaker 1:This is one of those self-fulfilling prophecies.

Speaker 3:You know, you think, therefore you are.

Speaker 2:Listen, Noah, look, you're right. You probably don't deserve her, but... The good thing about women is they almost never choose men who actually deserve them.

Speaker 4:Oh, wow.

Speaker 2:That's a good point.

Speaker 3:How'd you insult two people in one session?

Speaker 2:That's the great thing, though. You actually do seem like you're a great guy. You're very self-deprecating. And I think you should at least hear Gabby out because she's on the phone right now listening to this conversation waiting to talk to you.

Speaker 4:What?

Speaker 3:Really?

Speaker 1:Yeah. I don't.

Speaker 2:This is going to be really. You're probably right, but let's give it a go. Gabby, talk to him.

Speaker 4:Wow, Noah, I'm really sorry, but I did not expect that. And I got to tell you, that's such a turnoff.

Speaker 2:Oh, he's a good guy. I just know that, like, you say you're a veterinarian, and I know that, like, you know, I'm just the guy that you saw picking up popcorn and sweeping up.

Speaker 1:And I know that.

Speaker 2:This doesn't, it's not going to end well. I've been through this before.

Speaker 3:No, that's what you think of yourself. That's not what she thinks of you. She's already said that. Like you can't tell her how she feels.

Speaker 4:Well, to be fair, I do feel that now.

Speaker 3:Okay. That's remember that self-fulfilling prophecy.

Speaker 2:Yeah. Some guys just know they're undateable.

Speaker 3:He's not undateable.

Speaker 1:If he would have had confidence and just gone out with her again, she would have loved it.

Speaker 3:She doesn't want to tell you over and over every day that being an usher is hot.

Speaker 2:I mean, if you want to.

Speaker 1:Try to give me another chance, I think I can make it.

Speaker 2:Look, I've seen.

Speaker 1:It happen badly before, but if you want to give this show a shot, I would definitely go out for another date with you.

Speaker 2:Okay, there it is. There's that confidence that was coming out.

Speaker 3:Yeah, because you've got to remember, your job isn't the problem. The confidence is the turnoff right now. I hear you. Do you got more of it, Noah? You got more confidence?

Speaker 2:Go ahead. Tell Gabby how much you love your job.

Speaker 3:No, no. Let's not concentrate on the job at this point.

Speaker 2:You're more than your job.

Speaker 3:About how rad you are, how good you are.

Speaker 2:Yeah, you're great. I mean, minus the job.

Speaker 3:I mean, yeah, I liked her a lot.

Speaker 2:I mean, I think we can make it work, but I'm a little nervous about the difference. No, you're not nervous. You're confident. You're nervous about how good it's going to go.

Speaker 4:I'm confident.

Speaker 2:You're nervous about how madly you're going to fall in love with each other. Okay. Get him. Yeah. Gabby, is any of this working?

Speaker 4:You know, Noah, I really liked you.

Speaker 2:I had a great time.

Speaker 4:I think you're a great guy, but I can't.

Speaker 2:Foster your self-confidence. Man, you got to figure that out.

Speaker 4:But you have my number. I've called you several times. If you get to a point where you feel a little bit better about yourself, give.

Speaker 2:Me a call. But I.

Speaker 4:I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:Well, hold on. I'll tell you, nothing makes you feel better about yourself, Noah, than having a radio station pay for your next date. That's something that builds extreme confidence. And if you're willing to see Gabby again, we will do that for you.

Speaker 1:Really?

Speaker 2:That sounded pretty confident. No, I mean, all right.

Speaker 3:I mean, I will try to work on my confidence.

Speaker 2:I've got your number, Gabby. And if you guys are booking the bill, yeah, why not? I'm talking like a man.

Speaker 3:I think Gabby just said that she's good for right now. I don't know if you missed that part.

Speaker 2:She was kind of not very confident when she said it, though.

Speaker 4:Okay.

Speaker 2:I think she's going to waffle, too.

Speaker 3:Yeah, I don't know that they're going to go out again.

Speaker 2:So, Gabby, he's in. Uh-huh. And you are open.

Speaker 4:I am open at a later date.

Speaker 1:It's going to take maybe a year or so for him to fix his things.

Speaker 3:But hey, look it.

Speaker 1:Now you've got motivation to be the best version of yourself and to have that confidence follow along, right, Noah?

Speaker 3:Sometimes you just got to fake it until you make it, man.

Speaker 2:I knew she'd say no to be completely honest. No, bro.

Speaker 3:I said it from the beginning.

Speaker 2:I said it from the beginning. Okay.

Speaker 3:Oh my God. That was the problem.

Speaker 4:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 2:Remember how that whole thing started with her not wanting to date guys online anymore?

Speaker 4:Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Speaker 2:How fast did she re-download Tinder after she hung up that phone call?

Speaker 1:Oh, God.

Speaker 3:The poor thing. The guy just needed to understand. It was the confidence that was the issue. I just don't get why he didn't hear that.

Speaker 2:Well, it doesn't help that you just called him a thing, so that's not going to help his self-confidence. I was talking about her.

Speaker 3:Her being a poor thing.

Speaker 4:Oh, okay.

Speaker 2:It's all bad. No, they're equals. It really just goes to show, guys, it's all about confidence. You don't even need to have it. Just pretend like you do.

Speaker 3:That's what confidence is. Nobody really has it. Everyone thinks of themselves as not worthy.

Speaker 2:Just remember, whether you fake it or you have it, you're still going to get crushed. Exactly. Leave the insecurity and the self-loathing to us. We are better at it than you. Yeah, that's a good point.

Speaker 3:That's the confidence we're talking about.

Speaker 2:But we do all have hope for Noah. Hopefully he gets stuff together and, you know, finds a girl that's right for him. I don't know. She's got to work there. Yeah, I wasn't even saying that confidently. Anyway, but we can confidently help you out if you email the show. We'll call that person who's not calling you back. Go check out all of our second dates. They're up online wherever you get your podcasts. Check out Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
