What one of our listeners did in a public park during her first date was definitely FREAKY. So much so, that it had us in studio wilding out! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Speaker 1:All right, we got a classic for you today.

Speaker 2:But before, we always love to highlight your comments. What do you see, Alexis, that you like?

Speaker 1:Yeah, Frankie Cavanaugh said, sometimes.

Speaker 3:When all you were talking at once and laughing at once and all at once, all at once, I swear y'all had too much coffee.

Speaker 1:But that's all right.

Speaker 2:I have a lot of peace in mind when I get the opportunity to hear you guys entertain us.

Speaker 1:But sometimes y'all just talk at once.

Speaker 2:Loudly.

Speaker 1:A hundred. Yeah.

Speaker 2:It's true.

Speaker 1:But we like each other. That's why. You know, it's fun. It's a fun room to be in.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 2:All right.

Speaker 4:Okay.

Speaker 2:All right.

Speaker 1:Here we go. Into the classic. Into the classic.

Speaker 3:Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 1:Second date update.

Speaker 3:I've heard of people using the dating app Hinge. Anybody here ever try that one, Alexis?

Speaker 1:That's my favorite one. What's that one about?

Speaker 3:You have more prompt, and you can see people who like you before you like them.

Speaker 1:So you don't have to match. I'm not going to explain it to you.

Speaker 3:I've never used that one before personally, but I have met people on a similar one called Cringe.

Speaker 1:That makes sense for you. It's where you.

Speaker 3:Match with people based on their belly buttons, and you make a bunch of mouth noises to try and match them. Ah, this sounds like my best shot. Cringe.

Speaker 4:No.

Speaker 3:It's not for everybody. That's what I'll say.

Speaker 1:How did you come up with that in your head?

Speaker 3:But one of our listeners, Haley, apparently met a guy. She says on Hinge, but maybe it was cringe. Haley, which one was it?

Speaker 5:It was on Hinge.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 1:She's cringing.

Speaker 3:If this one doesn't work out for you, though, you can always turn to cringe. But for now, tell us about the guy that you met. What's his name?

Speaker 5:Well, his name is Steven.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 5:And, you know, he's a really cool guy, a bit nerdy, just how I like him. And so what really made me click on him was that he had said that he was a major Harry Potter fan. And I was like, oh, well, good. Cool. Wow.

Speaker 3:He can read at a fourth grade level.

Speaker 2:This is one of those fandoms like Star Wars or whatever, where you've got to be careful because if you're going to declare it, people expect you to know every last detail of said fandom.

Speaker 3:Yeah, see, they don't have those types of standards on cringe.

Speaker 1:I believe that.

Speaker 3:I always think when someone says they're a Harry Potter fan, I'm like, good, we have eight movies we can watch. I already have eight.

Speaker 4:That's funny.

Speaker 1:I never thought about that.

Speaker 3:Perfect timing. All right, so you guys match. How did it go actually meeting him?

Speaker 5:It actually went great. We went for a happy hour and like we instantly clicked. It was so much fun. We were talking about it and then we talked about other things as well. And it was just like it was an instant click.

Speaker 1:Awesome.

Speaker 3:I mean, I think we're all wondering what house are you in?

Speaker 5:I'm in Ravenclaw.

Speaker 4:Ravenclaw. Look at that.

Speaker 3:She was ready with an answer.

Speaker 1:That makes sense. I love the nerds. Yeah, no, the hottie Cho Chang, she's in Ravenclaw, too.

Speaker 2:Everyone picks Gryffindor, so it's good to know that you're like a true, you know.

Speaker 3:Yeah, like I'm a Hufflepuff. Are you?

Speaker 1:We would probably slew her in, but we didn't get enough of her. Let's not go there.

Speaker 3:All right, so, I mean, that's great. It sounds like you guys are clicking at happy hour. What else is going on?

Speaker 5:Yeah, well, I mean, even in Happy Hour, we're, like, intertwining our legs together under the table.

Speaker 2:We're, like... Oh.

Speaker 3:Playing a little leg pretzel.

Speaker 2:I know.

Speaker 1:I was going to ask... Leg pretzel. MMA style.

Speaker 3:Oh, she's got me under the table. Eating pretzels above the table and making pretzels below. What?

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 1:This is why you're on cringe.

Speaker 4:Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2:I mean, I was going to ask, like, how do you turn a Harry Potter date into a sexy date?

Speaker 1:But apparently, you made it happen.

Speaker 5:Yeah. I must say, though, like when we stopped having the happy hour, I was just like, I don't want this date to end. Yeah. But I also remembered that I had to let my dog out.

Speaker 2:Oh.

Speaker 5:I'm so sorry. I have to get my dog out. And at least he was nice enough to, like, he came with me to get my dog out.

Speaker 1:I bet he did.

Speaker 3:Oh.

Speaker 1:All right. Let's leg pretzel somewhere else.

Speaker 3:Is what he said, Jeffrey.

Speaker 4:Okay.

Speaker 5:Yeah. Like, my apartment was super close by. So he met my dog, Button.

Speaker 3:Oh, Button.

Speaker 1:That's a nice name.

Speaker 5:So my dog Button is never really nice with everybody. She's like a little bit crazy. But she was so happy to meet him. He had like the best energy.

Speaker 1:It's such a good sign.

Speaker 2:Always.

Speaker 5:Yeah, like Button hated my ex. Like she never liked my ex.

Speaker 4:But that was.

Speaker 5:Shocking for me. And I was like so happy.

Speaker 4:We took her to the park.

Speaker 5:We're chatting a little bit, sitting on the grass, letting her run around. And it started getting dark, so I was like, okay, you know what? If you want, you can go to my place again to drop off the dog and, like, just hang out for a little bit longer. And then he said he had to go.

Speaker 2:Okay. I think that's understandable. You guys had an extended date.

Speaker 3:How long had you guys spent together to that point?

Speaker 5:Give or take five hours or so. Oh, wow. That's a lot of time. I was just like, fair enough. But then he told me he had somewhere else to go, and he was already running late, so I felt bad.

Speaker 2:Whoa.

Speaker 4:After all that? He's got, like, another late night?

Speaker 5:He said he still had something to do.

Speaker 2:Oh.

Speaker 5:And so he left and we still talk. But now I feel like that flirtiness has like gone away. And he's kind of like friend zoned me a bit.

Speaker 3:That's weird.

Speaker 2:Do you think he had a date that night? Like he put you in the day date, right? Like early happy hour. And then he put somebody else he was maybe.

Speaker 1:More attracted to or something. I'm not trying to be mean, but like at the night date.

Speaker 2:Yeah.

Speaker 5:Yeah, I don't know. I just wanted to know what happened.

Speaker 3:Have you tried sending him a naughty Ravenclaw pic? See if you get a response from that.

Speaker 4:Via owl?

Speaker 1:Is that how you send those?

Speaker 3:Or a little suggestive pretzel action.

Speaker 5:I mean, I've sent like flirtatious text messages to him and stuff, or he doesn't respond or he just changes the text.

Speaker 3:Not flirtatious enough from the sound of it. So I'm going to play a song and you go Google suggestive pretzel.

Speaker 5:No, don't do that.

Speaker 3:No, look up suggestive pretzel and see what you find, and it might help you because we're going to come back, and then we'll call Steven for you and try and get you your second date update, okay?

Speaker 4:All right.

Speaker 5:Thank you so much.

Speaker 4:All right.

Speaker 3:Hold on. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Speaker 1:Second date update.

Speaker 3:There's nothing more sexy than meeting up at a random bar with a fellow Harry Potter head.

Speaker 1:I don't know if sexy is the word. They made it sexy.

Speaker 3:Haley said that while the drinks were flowing on top of the table, their legs were intertwining below. She didn't say explicitly that she brushed his wand, but I'm assuming by the giddiness in her voice that she at least wanted to. Haley, confirm or deny?

Speaker 5:I'll confirm.

Speaker 3:That's a pickup line.

Speaker 2:I mean, I would think that the dude would want to call it a broom before a walk.

Speaker 1:You guys do what you need to do.

Speaker 3:The interesting part about this whole thing is the date didn't end at the bar. They kept it going and even took her dog Buttons out on a walk through the park. It's Button with just one. Buttons, excuse me. I remember that was super cute. And they went on a walk through the park, hung out there a little while, but afterwards the romance has kind of run dry. Like a bowl full of salty what, Brooke? Pretzels?

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 5:Oh, hi, Brooke.

Speaker 3:The queen of dryness over there.

Speaker 4:Wait a minute.

Speaker 1:I'm just going to follow along, Alexis.

Speaker 2:There's like 8,000 metaphors that Jeffrey uses in one sentence.

Speaker 1:The queen of dry and salty. You've got to keep up.

Speaker 3:So, Hayley, I'm really curious because most guys don't friend zone. That's just not in the game plan for most of us. But we'll find out what his deal is. You ready to call him?

Speaker 5:Yeah, I'm definitely nervous, but I'm ready. I need to know.

Speaker 2:It's hard to imagine that a dude who's declaring his love for Harry Potter is getting tons of options on dating apps, but maybe I'm wrong.

Speaker 3:I think it's a new love language now.

Speaker 1:I guess.

Speaker 2:It is.

Speaker 1:I guess.

Speaker 3:We'll find out. Let's give him a call and see what he has to say. Here we go.

Speaker 4:Hello? Hello?

Speaker 3:And Guardian Leviosa? Oh, he's floating right now.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 3:Hello?

Speaker 4:Yeah, hello.

Speaker 3:Hey, is this Stephen?

Speaker 1:Luminos.

Speaker 4:Yeah. Now he's lit up.

Speaker 1:You know a lot.

Speaker 4:I know all the spells.

Speaker 3:I really do. Hey, Stephen, I'm sorry for all the confusion here. We're calling you from a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. We're hoping you have a second to talk to us. Please don't Expelliarmus on us.

Speaker 1:Okay.

Speaker 4:Send us away or hang up. Is this a contest or something?

Speaker 2:Maybe.

Speaker 3:I wouldn't call it a contest, but it is an opportunity to possibly go out on a date with a really cool girl.

Speaker 4:Can I see a picture of her?

Speaker 3:Well, you've already been out on a date with this woman. Her name's Haley.

Speaker 2:Oh.

Speaker 4:Oh, wow. This is like one of those talk about the date.

Speaker 3:That's exactly what this is. Second date update.

Speaker 2:Haley sounded like she really had a great time with you.

Speaker 1:It sounded like an awesome date, honestly.

Speaker 3:Yeah, I mean, that's the whole reason that we're talking about all the, you know, spells and charms and stuff, because she mentioned you're a Harry Potter fan.

Speaker 4:No, we're both fans. We had a great, we had a good time. She's a bigger fan than me, but that was fun. We talked a lot about it.

Speaker 3:Yeah, I mean, she described it as a good time, too, which is why she's so confused why afterwards things seem to have cooled off a little bit.

Speaker 1:Is she reading that right? The cool-off part?

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 4:Yeah, I'd say so, I guess.

Speaker 3:Okay. Well, the whole point of this segment is to try and help Haley understand why the cool-off happened, because she has no idea.

Speaker 4:Okay, so what do you guys, like, report back to her or something?

Speaker 2:Yeah.

Speaker 4:Pretty much.

Speaker 3:Just help her understand what's going on so she can have a little bit of closure and move on, or what she would like is to see you again.

Speaker 2:Right.

Speaker 3:You think you could help us give her a little bit of clarity.

Speaker 4:Um yeah okay okay it was a fun day it was great it was long it was almost four hours yeah I mean, I was even thinking we have a lot in common. This could be great. I could see a future potentially.

Speaker 1:I could tell from the excitement in your voice right now. I mean, what changed?

Speaker 2:Was there a specific moment or was it just an overall vibe for you?

Speaker 4:Yeah, no, it was pretty specific, I would say. It happened at the park. So we were there with her dog. She kept saying how much her dog liked me and that was not normal. Right.

Speaker 3:Dude, that's a huge compliment.

Speaker 4:Yeah, no, I liked her dog, Button. It was cute and too sweet.

Speaker 3:Okay.

Speaker 4:No, the thing was, she brought dog treats for her dog.

Speaker 5:Yeah.

Speaker 4:And then she kind of casually just started snacking on them.

Speaker 2:Oh.

Speaker 4:At first I thought maybe she was going to do that, like, one time. Like, the dog thought it was cute or something. And then she did it, like, a few more times. With, like, dog biscuits? Yeah.

Speaker 2:Oh. Oh.

Speaker 4:One for Button, one for her.

Speaker 2:Maybe they were human treats that she was giving to her dog.

Speaker 4:No, it was a bag. No, no. It was a bag that said dog treats.

Speaker 3:There's a picture of a dog on the front.

Speaker 4:Yeah, no, and she didn't acknowledge it. The only time she acknowledged it was when she was like, man, I'm getting thirsty.

Speaker 1:I bet.

Speaker 4:Yeah, that's what I thought. Like, I'll bet. And then she said, come on, bud. And then they went over to the dog fountain, like where the dogs are playing around. Yeah, they both drank the water from the dog fountain.

Speaker 3:At the same time?

Speaker 5:No.

Speaker 4:Yeah, it was like together, but like kind of together, yeah. Dang.

Speaker 1:I was at a point where I'm like, yeah, I feel like you're overreacting.

Speaker 4:Right.

Speaker 1:With the treats, but the water, too. That's where you draw the line?

Speaker 2:It is.

Speaker 4:Well, right. So, I mean, I was pretty grossed out.

Speaker 1:Oh, poor thing.

Speaker 4:But then after the fountain, I was like, we're on a different level of what is normal, what is not.

Speaker 3:Yeah. No, I mean, now I can kind of see what you're saying. But I wonder if Haley feels the same way as you, because she's on the other line listening. I think she's listening.

Speaker 1:She needed to hear this.

Speaker 3:She needs to talk.

Speaker 4:To you, Haley.

Speaker 2:Oh, God. Yeah. Hi.

Speaker 4:Okay.

Speaker 5:You're totally making it sound horrible and it's totally not.

Speaker 3:Wait, is that true?

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 5:You know, part of it, because like Steven, I honestly wish you would have said something about it. And FYI, these dog treats are organic. And they're actually advertised for, say, for human consumption.

Speaker 3:No.

Speaker 5:I was just like, whatever. It tastes like beef jerky.

Speaker 1:I think that that is usually, it's usually just put on there so, like, you don't call poison control if you, you know, accidentally swallow one or something. Not advertised for people.

Speaker 3:It's not telling top your pasta with it.

Speaker 2:Yes.

Speaker 5:Yeah, I know. There's like commercials of someone eating the dog treat and whatever. It's like safe organic treats.

Speaker 1:I think that's to prove.

Speaker 3:On a regular TV or on some Ukrainian set?

Speaker 5:Honestly, you should just try it.

Speaker 4:But I'm okay. Well, you said beef jerky, but I could have sworn the label said beef and gravy.

Speaker 2:Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 1:I can actually. Oh, no.

Speaker 5:Here we go.

Speaker 1:Let's make this normal, Brooke. Go ahead.

Speaker 3:Listen, I've eaten a lot of treats of animals in my time. When my dog doesn't finish her dog bowl, I'm not going to let that go to waste.

Speaker 1:I had a friend who I also happened to date, and he maybe ate some of those big. Not as a normal thing, just a couple of times.

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 2:But I like, why would you like, I just picture you down on all fours at a dog drinking fountain with your head under the water at the same time.

Speaker 5:No, I'm not drinking out of a dog bowl or anything like that. It's just like a water fountain. Like, you know, it's the water's high enough. I'm not touching it with my lips or anything. It's just water.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 3:Steven, you're staying awfully quiet for this whole thing. I mean, you're hearing her explanations.

Speaker 4:As I said at the beginning, like Button and I got along good. I'm a dog person and that's not normal to me. So I would just recommend in the future that you just acknowledge it because it's not like a normal.

Speaker 3:Steven, I feel like you're coming off just a little bit judgy here. Like if they went to the same dog groomer.

Speaker 4:Like, I'm being put on the spot here on a radio show you want. Like, this is my feeling.

Speaker 1:It's fine. It's fine, Steven.

Speaker 2:We're just asking if, like, maybe after you heard Haley's explanation, that maybe you can open the window a little bit for her.

Speaker 3:Yeah, open the doggy door to love and let it come in because we'd like to send you out on another date. We will pay for that date between you and Haley. Come on, who wants a date? Who wants a good date?

Speaker 4:I mean, I had a great time on our first date. I guess I'd be down, yeah.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 4:Now that you know.

Speaker 3:Now that you know. Yeah, and she's able to learn from her mistakes, and she won't drink out of the dog bowls anymore, at least not in front of you.

Speaker 5:It wasn't a dog bowl. I already explained what the deal was. Okay.

Speaker 3:Okay, a dog fountain. But it sounds like, okay, it sounds like maybe, Stephen, you're willing to give her another shot. Haley, are you still interested?

Speaker 5:Well, you know I am. I think you're an awesome guy, Steven. So yeah, I'm totally down.

Speaker 3:Wait a second. Is this two Harry Potter heads casting a little Wingardium Leviosa spell?

Speaker 1:Oh, this spell works.

Speaker 3:We brought the magic back.

Speaker 1:Canina sexiamus. No, I gotta look up my spells. Yeah, you do. Go back to the book. Something similar.

Speaker 5:Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.

Speaker 3:Oh, dating is so bad now that you meet up with a girl who's eating dog biscuits and drinks out of a public fountain.

Speaker 5:Yeah.

Speaker 3:And you think, you know what? I'm going to give her another shot.

Speaker 1:Be nice.

Speaker 4:I liked her.

Speaker 5:Oh, God.

Speaker 3:Alexis, you're still single.

Speaker 4:Hey!

Speaker 3:Should we order some Purina One to the studio?

Speaker 1:Stop it, Jeffrey! You are way too confident right now.

Speaker 3:I can't get over it.

Speaker 1:Calm down. You need to chill. You have never tried those dog biscuits. For all we know.

Speaker 3:For good reason.

Speaker 1:Maybe they're good. I'm just trying to be, they're good enough for button. No. Okay.

Speaker 3:Maybe get the ones that clean your teeth while they do it.

Speaker 1:I think I'll start with the ice cream, the dog ice cream. Maybe that's a good choice.

Speaker 3:But you know what? Good on us for being able to get them to go out on one more date.

Speaker 1:Maybe they'll go to a coffee shop and order a puppuccino together.

Speaker 2:Yeah.

Speaker 3:They'll go, Tuesday's on a fire hydrant. I'm happy for the two of them. We're good.

Speaker 2:We are.

Speaker 1:We're really good at this. That was magic.

Speaker 3:If that wasn't an advertisement to get yourself some help in the dating realm, I don't know what is. Yeah, you need a call back. We'll get you at least a bark back. That's right. Email the show. We'll call the person who isn't calling you back.
