Speaker 1:Welcome back to another episode of the new Rory and Mall Podcast.

Speaker 2:I am Maul Rory Rory.

Speaker 1:Today we are joined by somebody that you've been talking to me about for for a very long time. Uh, somebody who I've grown to like, one of the one of the bright spots in rap in hip hop. Got a new project out, Junkie in the Sun. Yes, I've been listening to that a lot.

Speaker 3:Arguably, I think halfway through the year. You can put this up one of the just send a conversation for yeah, for sure. Yeah, I really really liked this project.

Speaker 1:Today we are joined by south Side Atlanta's own Deontay Hitchcock is in the building.

Speaker 3:Huge studio, audience, huge studio, millions of people in the millions of people in the audience, Deonta, how.

Speaker 2:You feeling man?

Speaker 4:Happy to be here?

Speaker 2:That yo? First of all, congrats on this project.

Speaker 4:Appreciate it.

Speaker 1:It's it's a dope project, uh to me in one of the bright spots in hip hop.

Speaker 4:Thank you.

Speaker 1:We talk about hip hop kind of going through a very interesting phase right now, where you know, the skill set is kind of taking a back seat to you know, yeah, a statics and vibe and all the other things. So you know, hearing somebody like yourself that still puts, you know, the skill set to the forefront and in the art to the forefront.

Speaker 2:I appreciate that. How you feeling man in New York City for a few days working?

Speaker 5:Yeah, about to say, comra fire, a couple of interviews and ship just running around, yeah and getting it in coming to Yapple back album.

Speaker 4:Yeah, anybody who would let me sit down?

Speaker 2:Do you like New York? You like visiting the city.

Speaker 5:So we were just talking about that out there. So I got family's stay up in New York. Okay, you staying like Bene Stavesant, I just found out I got like six I.

Speaker 2:Like that, you said, Bedford Stea.

Speaker 3:Stopping, he says the way I say.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 5:But now about to say, last time I came up, it was my first time being here solo. Okay, solo, and where's the city? Usually feel like overwhelming type of as too fast? Yeah from the sudeage, not as quick down there.

Speaker 2:It's much slower down there.

Speaker 5:About to say, this time, it feels more electric. Okay, that makes sense. So yeah, it's the we've talked about. This summer in New York is a lot the vibes.

Speaker 4:Yeah, he Nix, you won a game.

Speaker 2:Everybody walking a little different.

Speaker 1:I'm saying coming off the three shows that Jay had Yankee Stadium.

Speaker 4:Niggas was chating young when I was well.

Speaker 2:We still feel that way, even though you have a banner now still.

Speaker 1:Anymore, no more, It's still the vibe. It's still the vibe. We keep that energy for years. New York hold on a lot.

Speaker 3:I feel like I kind of talked about it. He was like, maybe I want to live up here for a year. I started explaining how taxes work up here. Yeah, I think I go back.

Speaker 4:I'm good here.

Speaker 2:Stay stay in Georgia. Where you're at.

Speaker 4:Man, you got four bedrooms for eleven hundred cop colar today. I'm good on this ship.

Speaker 2:But why the title Junkies.

Speaker 4:In the Sun?

Speaker 5:Junkies in the Sun is basically like all of us, we all got stuff that we embitched, but we all got stuff that we addicted to, whatever the case, Whatever the case, all of us are junkies to something, whether that's our own feelings, whether it's our own joye, shame, guilt, whatever the fuck it is. God don't care about that. And to me, the sun is God. God, the light don't never turn off from the sun. You go outside, you stand outside right now, you're going to see the j on the corner. You're go see the drunk, just like you're gonna see the doctor, just like you're gonna see the brain surgeon. Whatever the case, everybody get the same light from God. It ain't no different and no judgment from the sign. It's the same way for us no matter what we're going through, what we're dealing with.

Speaker 5:God don't turn God's like off, putting none of it. You might feel like it's, but it's not. What's your version of junkie?

Speaker 3:Do you feel like, especially when you were making this product, because it is very deep, every record felt on purpose, if that makes sense, Like there wasn't really a bar wasted or a point that you didn't get across pre.

Speaker 4:Sure for me. For me, it's been like this validation.

Speaker 5:Like I've been making music for a long ass time, bro thirty three, I didn't make music.

Speaker 1:That's around the age though, where if you're a rapper, like that's the age where things start to yeah, start the project ship.

Speaker 5:Yeah, I need that for sure, about I got a i'minna get mad this ship out.

Speaker 4:Of there, so you marry get made, okay.

Speaker 5:Yeah, and my lady so yeah, Like for me, it's been a validation because I've been making music for such a long time and I always felt like it was that you feel like, I ain't gonna put out no project if I don't think it's like that.

Speaker 4:But the reception never matched what I thought it was.

Speaker 5:And granted, you know what I'm saying, that happened for pleasure of reasons, Like I put out my debut project and then COVID happened. Okay, so yeah, everything shut down. We couldn't tour, We couldn't really do anything were planning to do.

Speaker 1:We got a lot of good music in twenty twenty though, man Me and Roy talked about yeah, yeah about like good music came out there year, Pandemic, Heading, Tripping, Yeah, Realse, some of that big ship.

Speaker 4:Yeah, I couldn't do nothing with it. Yeah, it was like all right, cool, cool cool.

Speaker 5:But for me, even creating this project has always been and not not in the since again lost in it, but just being aware of it, the validation, like I sought that for people to regard my work, and like certain level, you know what I mean to be talked about with some of my peers with the same like provido that they speak about them.

Speaker 3:Yeah yeah, I was felt like that's that's kind of mean to say the artists of like it doesn't matter what people say, like you feel good about him like crazy, it's kind of a man that sounds good on paper. It's kind of a dumb perspective because this is how y'all eat. Like, No, I'd love to be validated by everyone that listens to the project, like.

Speaker 5:That's that's the job. Yeah, don't nobody like it. I'm going back to me Donald's niggah over right. So really like the whole job ship not only mean for y'all too. It's like perception to be perceived, Like people got to look at you and be like, yeah, fuck with that.

Speaker 4:Oh yeah, I don't fuck with that.

Speaker 5:You gotta be either polarizing enough or folks gotta love it, you know what I mean?

Speaker 4:One way or another. Folks don't like it? You cook? Yeah, over what do you.

Speaker 3:Think the reception has been between Junkie and the Sun and Better your debut?

Speaker 4:Man?

Speaker 5:I think folks liked I love both of them. I think this one like whereas were better. I got a couple of songs that shouldn't exist at all, that motherfucker on the.

Speaker 2:First one, but.

Speaker 1:Always look like, what was I fucking think I got.

Speaker 4:Give me your money on there that I wish I never made. Yeah, I like stepping Stone.

Speaker 1:You I love, but I love with artists like you can look back and say that a lot of record like what the fuck.

Speaker 4:Was our field?

Speaker 5:I was with RCAA at the time about so Ja Ki and the Sun is the first project we don't know without necessarily having like the label's ear or them talking in our ear the same time, like we need this record, we need that record. I had a planner who came through we was getting towards the end of the project, and he was like, broh, it sounded like y'all feel Not to be cliche, but it sounded like y'all feel free, Okay, I mean for the first time in a long time. And bro that shit dosne stuck with me ever since you said it, because that's how I feel. Yeah, That's exactly how I feel. So yeah, I think the reception for this one has been ten times ten times.

Speaker 3:What type of things was r c A in your ear about you? Don't have to get like specifics to anyone on the label.

Speaker 5:But same thing the labels being here about we need a record that we could press go on you. I mean like you could wrap. That's why we got you here for show. But we still need the record that we could place on urban radio, in the club, on the festival stage, whatever the case, to get you to that place, you know.

Speaker 4:What I'm saying.

Speaker 5:Whereas like the label might have been able to press a button, and granted that influence was kind of waning back then too, but like now, I don't think the level can press a button anymore.

Speaker 4:Now you could pull money on some ship and it still might not go.

Speaker 1:Yeah, it's not what it used to be at all. It's a whole different food the consumers. For a while, it was some tricks and things that they used to do. They're kind of like fool But like you see major artists now that can't they can't do anything, They can't move and can't.

Speaker 3:They can throw gas on something that's already working. That's probably the best thing that they That's that's been an approach for most of them. I mean, like folks we're talking about like artists development that ship dead, Yeah, do it no more because everybody.

Speaker 5:Is afraid to take the swing. It looks stupid because don't nobody know what going on them?

Speaker 4:Right? Yeah?

Speaker 1:So who's some of the artists that you because you know, listening to your music, we obviously hear well, I hear the three thousand influences, Yeah, out Cast, maybe some coal influence in there a little bit. But who's some of the artists that you listen to that people might not know that? These are the guys that I kind of grew ups that inspired me.

Speaker 5:If talk, I don't think everybody familiar with a love. That's how it used to be, like Teag Nigga back in the day, out of the Southern based music. Out of that type of flame was on that heavy folks don't know. So I'm pretty sure everybody familiar with Cret if I say love Cret Okay, I'm sure ebody.

Speaker 4:Familiar with T I for sure, uh.

Speaker 1:Because I remember I was in Atlanta and I tore the time I laughed when Joey Badass told me that bow Wow inspired him a rat. I think I just wasn't expecting Joey Badass to be inspired by bow Wow. You know what I'm saying so, but but we forget how much was that, you know what I'm saying, Like he was literally one of the few artists that can tell you what it was like to go outside and create pandemonium.

Speaker 4:I got a.

Speaker 5:Picture at my mama house to this day with me standing in front of a big tarp. I don't know if it was at the Screen Tour original shows, if it was at a Boot Himself concert.

Speaker 4:My mama still got that pictures sitting on the bullshel Yeah.

Speaker 1:Literally, no, we don't because it's been so much time. But like you don't because you're not from the age group that we are. Yeah, Like I was older. I was already outside, so I was literally like a kid.

Speaker 2:I was out.

Speaker 1:But it was just like looking back, I do remember it being like, oh yeah, no, this is like he has the youth the world in his hand, Like yeah, now he's sad. Yeah, people grow older and it changed a little bit. It's a little different than I had.

Speaker 5:One of the craziest caribe So absolutely, Yeah, I feel like the rollout, or if you're called the rollout for Junkie in the Sun, you did something that I feel like a lot of quote unquote like lyrical rappers had trouble with it's somewhat going viral.

Speaker 3:I feel like, you know, your verse on gotta be more reminders, Like you had shot different visuals for one verse and repurposed that for like a year before the song even came out. Like I was starting to even get mad as a fan when you would start reposting, like when is this fucking song gonna come out?

Speaker 4:Them songs didn't exist at the time, like you just had those those great verses right around that time. So I left RCA.

Speaker 5:This is twenty twenty four in like September October type apps. Yeah, so from there, I'm already going through a period of time where I'm like, damn shit, I ain't really popping how I wanted to pop you. I mean, everything kind of slowed down. What am I gonna give to fans? And it's in between the meantime in between times type play. So I started writing verse every day. I did it before, but I kind of fell off because I was in a little dark patch. Started writing verse day every day again, kind of like that October area, and I just had all the verses, no songs, no fully fletched out ideas.

Speaker 5:But it was like, all right, cool, I'm just gonna drop me and J go. I had my homegirl camera. Shit, let me use, I'm shooting the videos myself. I'm recording myself at the crib out there, and it was just like there got.

Speaker 4:To be more video. Probably the one about is the one my phone the clothes.

Speaker 5:Yeah, just at the crib, put the camera up, set it up, wrap the verse, go and it it pop. I'm talking about the video right now. Might I got like eighty thousand likes on the type of I didn't expect this shit right now. So from there, folks is yelling at me. I'm getting all types of like, hey, bro, quit fucking playing with me, drop me songs in my inbox and shit, and I don't even have a song, so I had to finish it, like the finish it.

Speaker 4:It go from there, bro.

Speaker 1:Yeah, that's but see what we And that's something we always talked about too, like artists have a moment like that. Yeah, and either I mean, I think that's the first time I heard the artist that they didn't have the song, but like it's usually didn't have a plan. Yeah, I didn't know what they want to do, but to say, like that song wasn't even a record that.

Speaker 4:Was done one version, it was nothing else.

Speaker 1:That speaks to the time that when we're able to promote yourself and then you know, catch a moment, go viral and then everybody is now like, yo, what's up. You got to be prepared for that moment opportunity because it's like a lot of people, you know, they go viral and then it's like, but what's after that's coming behind that.

Speaker 5:I'm blessed enough to have retained a lot of fans from the time when I was at Oura, So I got people who will, you know what I'm saying, wait on me. But that's the talent, yeah type of just like folks will get them hold out like I know he doing something, he's working all the cool. But the new folks was like b we in and I slip feel like kind of dropped the bottle a little bit. Granted, you know what I'm saying. Folks are finding it again now it's almost like a million on Spotify now.

Speaker 4:Thank god.

Speaker 5:Cool, But yeah, I would like moving forward to be more proactive than reactive.

Speaker 4:Yeah, in my career and anything else for Yeah, So.

Speaker 1:Let's talk about a few of the records now because I'm really listening because obviously your talent speaks for yourself, so I'm really listening to your lyrics. I want to talk about the almost their record for sure. Now is that just art or is that something speaking to your mental health?

Speaker 5:I mean it's not anymore out of that face, but yeah, it's a real story.

Speaker 1:And that's something that you dealt with. Did you get therapy because as black men, we don't go to therapy. We kind of like therapy as ourselves and things like that, but like, did you seek therapy? Did you have mentor did you talk to some family? Like how did you come out of that dark space in your life?

Speaker 5:Not at that time, So I had I had two points in my life where I kind of feel like rock bottom too. Type one was earlier, which is the point that I'm recollecting about on the song. It's like twenty sixteen, and then the other is that twenty twenty through twenty twenty three phase after COVID stopped everything that we was like working for. So yeah, IM about to say I've gone to therapy for like four weeks and crazy, you know what I'm saying me and shut it did marriage counseling, But other than that, I ain't really took the time to go on a personal type of need to Yeah, yeah, not trying to.

Speaker 4:Check out this motherfucker.

Speaker 2:Nah man, you can't. You gotta got to stick around. Yeah you speak.

Speaker 3:We don't have to get into marriage counseling per SAE. But does does your wife ever have any type of issues? Because your music is so personal, Not that you get super deep in your relationship per se, but you can talk about y'all kid a lot your personal stuff. I'm sure even heard hearing that record was probably tough as well. But does she ever bring that type of stuff up because she be in the videos too.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 5:Yeah. Show sometimes may be a little too honest for show, but that's that's that's the job.

Speaker 4:But part of it, yeah for show, Like we done had.

Speaker 5:Them talks early on, and yeah, we've been together for a grip, so at this point it's like, all right, cool, we kind of got like understanding and the flow, I mean, so we're good now I can get stuff off and we're gonna talk about it later.

Speaker 1:But yeah, well what it is mean, Yeah, and it helps when the album is successful, it helps with the checks and bigger. I mean, Dinnis, you can talk about whatever the you want to talk this man, Let's let's take a trip.

Speaker 2:You talking about it, talking about whatever you want to talk about me. Let's have a good time.

Speaker 3:Absolutely, Yeah, was the Revenge of the Dreamers because you kind of you had a standout verse.

Speaker 4:I feel like appreciate it on that album, not even just on that that song.

Speaker 3:Yea was that kind of a gift and a curse a little bit because you talk a little bit about it on Good Things, Take time on the intro get into that whole cold situation.

Speaker 5:I don't think it was a gift and a curse. I just think I was fucked up at the time, like I was before I got the car. I was fucked up after the car. So it wasn't like that in particular had no influence on it.

Speaker 4:It just that's what it was. Yeah.

Speaker 5:If anything, I might have a bittersweet view of it because of the timing of it, because you know what I'm saying, that shoul happened in twenty nineteen, then COVID happened right after that, So I'm getting kind of like my bands together, We're going on twenty nineteen, we dropped The Revenge of the Dreams dropped. We went on tour with Jied, We went on tour with wil A and j Dinner. So we're getting ready to put out the album this next year. It's like, we're gonna go on our own debut tour, my personal first headline, and then the world stopped. So if any if I got any type of like bittersweet view of it, it's because of that, not because of like the shit that I was talking about in the verse, Because like money just was funny, just is what it is. Life is looking a little real.

Speaker 5:If anything, that was a blessing to keep me going. So I had I had like a million moments where I've been like, all right, bro, fuck this, get my h back license, got this today, bro, make something shape that.

Speaker 2:Start realizing that, you know what, maybe go get my CDL or something.

Speaker 1:Yeah, up on the side, a little Higby, Yeah yeah, I get a few open mics in that.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 5:But that came at a time where it was like God and I always gave me a little checkpoints, were all right cool thinking over with here you go, yeah, here you go.

Speaker 4:You gotta be treating because I have some more of them.

Speaker 5:Yeah, like that came at the perfect time.

Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, yeah, mall.

Speaker 2:H What what what are those sessions like down Atlanta with with the return to Dream?

Speaker 4:I said, I know y'all have heard these stories for.

Speaker 2:Sure, Like every time we talk someone's there, we hear a new story.

Speaker 5:Yeah about the bucks came through Jannie, all them that came through like donuts and brought donuts knees and Chris Nis bought donuts that brought donuts bros phrasing, Wow, it was crazy as hell. Yeah, Uh, Chris Bos there making beats, she cos and there walking around like he just got done cutting the grass, wrapping his ass up. He and T shirt basketball show us every day. But now the sessions themselves, Bro, Like you got all of these people in these rooms is Ross, It's t I is Earth Gang, is Ari Lennox, is Swiss Beats. It's all of these people that seen so far out of reach trying to come up. And it's like, damn, bro, to live with the playing field for like a week, you know what I mean? You know what I'm saying. You're gonna sink a swim you know what type of spaces not like everybody trying to get the same thing. There's like two hundred people in here every day at least that's like minimum.

Speaker 5:All right, cool, you're gonna get on this song when you not Yeah, nobody asking you where your verse at. It's fifty other rappers in here, Bro, you figure it out.

Speaker 1:So at what point in the in the environment like that does the rapper ego. You gotta kind of have that talk with yourself because you're all in the environment where, like you said, Yannis is bringing doughnut.

Speaker 2:You know, it's like a very cool, laid back vibe.

Speaker 1:But the rapper egos like I'm here to bust as I don't know what fuck about none of this other shit. At what point is it like, let me pull back on the rap of ego or do you like non fuck that I'm here to just go crazy.

Speaker 5:I think you got like rapper ego specifically, got like two different sides, like the flex and the bravido eye type ship and the get better than y'all needs. And I'm here the hoop right from the hoops, right, That's that's the side that show for everybody. I think Cole and Juniville just as a whole kind of like cultivation space where the other.

Speaker 4:Side of the ego doesn't.

Speaker 2:You can away with that.

Speaker 4:Yeah, don't really.

Speaker 5:Show for everybody type apps, but to get out there and know it's like, man, you if you hoop, you start off in little lead going crazy, move up a you move up again, high school, college, whatever the case. But by the time you get to college, everybody in here that nigga. Right, everybody can't to hoop, bro, it's not You're not just getting by tattling a loan.

Speaker 4:You gotta go work.

Speaker 5:And it's like it showed if you wanted the people who's really working, you're gonna get in here and you're gonna hoop. Right, you wanted them people who kind of like scared of the lights and they a little too bright. You probably ain't get on nothing because it was so chaotic and it was so much going on that should'll make you certain folk shrink.

Speaker 2:Yeah, is there any songs out of that session you thought your verse was gonna make it on?

Speaker 4:That show?

Speaker 5:Was my least favorite one real. I probably did eighteen eighteen twenty verses on there. Yeah, that's PTSD. I remember so I was on me one that got ari Lynn excuse me, omen out of them like wrote on the hook on that song, and I had a verse on it, and I remember call coming in. He was like, who's that for my verse? Like me, like, that's crazy. So I'm in my head, I'm like, yeah, that ship going, Yeah, it's going. Once Co asked who was that You're thinking.

Speaker 4:I'm like, this ship is sold up?

Speaker 5:Were good and We went on tour with Jed right after that and got me ended up dropping while we was on tour with him, and I'm not on it, and I'm like, fuck, if I make that.

Speaker 4:Ship, we might up over.

Speaker 2:Not to make it worse.

Speaker 4:That is my favorite song on the ship.

Speaker 5:Five five bro Out had say the last show, uh jit tour we end up in at Leonta, and he came down and he was talking to us in the back room and ship. He was like, we got most of the track lists already situated, but we got three more songs that we're trying to choose from, and PTSD was one of them.

Speaker 4:I was like, oh, ship, well, maybe we're gonna make it.

Speaker 5:Maybe not like it's still my least favorite verse out of all when he said, but I'm like, damn, that would be five.

Speaker 4:You'll make it. Whatever the cas ain't no slouch or whatever I do, it's gonna be It's gonna be good. Yeah, And they ended up making it.

Speaker 3:Rapper brings so interesting because you have the standout versus or that being the least. Yeah, everything interesting.

Speaker 2:It's always like that we we don't know.

Speaker 4:What folks look.

Speaker 5:You just gotta put that work in exactly, Bro, It's just like you gotta show up and do the thing because I'm an over thinking I got a different relationship to all these songs, all these verses than anybody else, and I never get to hear my own music.

Speaker 4:For the first time.

Speaker 5:So I heard this verse in my head, and I heard all these eighteen verses in my head a thousand times before I actually flesh them out and they finished and I get to put them into the world. So I just got a different relationship with folks. Folks resonated with that verse like nothing else I put out your time.

Speaker 3:So yeah, with with Jid Earth Gang Black Rebuild, like I always viewed from the outside looking in, like y'all grew up together something like I put all y'all together as like that younger Atlanta Click.

Speaker 2:Different labels.

Speaker 3:But for some reason, I think fans view it that way as well, like you guys are are connected in some type of way.

Speaker 4:It's crazy enough. So I met Black, you know, parking lot on Edge with I don't know if you're familiar with Edge with it was like a scene. They were still there. It's a streak.

Speaker 5:But Edgeway, you say, have the song scene going crazy it's like two nine. They're familiar with fat Man key Og mac O, Spilitsch Village, all these folks at one time, kind of like really popping around there.

Speaker 4:That Black Edgewood at department store.

Speaker 5:It's one of the venues out there, just in the parking lot at random, like that real with your ship's back when he still had the Oh yeah, I mean the free forms going on.

Speaker 4:It's crazy enough. My pops sweat up and down that we had the same babysitter like you and black.

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 4:I don't know if I believe him or that might probably be tales.

Speaker 3:But he swear it down, didn't Your uncle said he wrote no scrubs and didn't. All right, So that that was my family lives too. That I'm like, I think my dad was lying.

Speaker 5:My dad do be lying for my uncle, not so much. I mean, like I think I just misconstrued the story. Okay, he used to tell a lot of time and then you know what I'm saying, Once you play telephone, like my mama would tell me the story, get to like sending people. Now it's like, oh yeah, my uncle had a million dollars and he saying on the Titanic, all right, cool. I say, I still don't have all the facts. But my uncle is the one who got me in the repping when I was a kid. Marlon Hitchcock. Okay, yeah, I say painting now, Okay, crazy, But yeah, I don't know how we got here.

Speaker 4:You're talking about meeting Black for the first time. Facts all of us, I don't really know none of them. I met.

Speaker 5:Uh. I can't remember how I made off top Uh. I know I met Boss was like the first person I think I met from the whole dream of camp. And then from there it just kind of spilled over. Ain't no pun intended spill.

Speaker 1:Yeah, it's another song on Junkie in the Sun that I kind of I was like, Okay, this is very clever, very clever way of writing all the cycle perspectives that you wrote from.

Speaker 4:That that one is just art.

Speaker 2:That's like you know, I mean, that's rap art right there.

Speaker 1:The way just the perspective, the point of views that you're writing from the way you put everything together, was that when you first heard that that that track, did you have that idea right, because sometimes it's right as you probably have an idea, but then the track is like, okay, this is the right moment for this.

Speaker 5:Yeah, yes, yes, and no. So I've been doing this thing I was talking about earlier, the versus they joints. So I started, I think I started for the first time in like twenty twenty. It was like me, uh president of Chris Patrick when it was just watching on the thing, uh, Ray Vaughn, Sadie Hendricks, Suave, all these guys. Yeah mean just like Swabe crazy, yeah, but just a whole bunch of people in that type of like space, the class.

Speaker 4:And I wrote the first verse for the cycle that was like twenty twenty two to a whole different beat.

Speaker 2:Okay, you know what I mean.

Speaker 5:And then I came back I got that beat. It's a producer named Ben Nartley, crazy as hell. And once I got the beat, that's when I put the second verse down to it.

Speaker 4:So I had that song from its infancy for about four years.

Speaker 2:Okay.

Speaker 5:But the verse of that is kind of like played a big role in this album in general because it allowed me to like start ideas and then whenever the perfect thing came forward for me to finish it, you know.

Speaker 1:So that's actually a dope way like coming off of you know, the viral video and you not having the song, but then taking that and being like, Okay, well I'm gonna take that formula.

Speaker 4:And just keep using it.

Speaker 1:I'll do a verse a day and then I'll hear something go back to it and inspire me to finish that record.

Speaker 4:Cause the ship not to piggyback and say it. But it's the freedom, bro.

Speaker 5:Like I used to go to the studio like maybe once every two three weeks type, It's like if I go in here that amount of times, whatever I do in this motherfucker got to be perfect. I gotta make the best song in my life. If I'm writing every day. At this point, it's like I don't care if he was trashed on Monday, bro, because I'm coming back Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. I'm being seven times this week, right, So everything I'm doing it's like real, just keep putting the shots up so I'm gonna go win. I know I'm good enough to the point where it's like I can hoop. Yeah, you feel me like some go go in whether I miss or not, Bro, I don't care about it. It's over right again to keep being the brecks.

Speaker 1:As an MC how many times because you know, you know again rap your ego. Artists come, you know, they talk, they never talk about those moments of self doubt. How many times do you think you have to fight through that self doubt of am I good enough? Or maybe I'm not as good as I thought I was, Maybe I should just get my h vacs. Like, how many times do you have those thoughts and those conversations with.

Speaker 5:Your So it's been a thousand plus. I mean it happens all the time. I think coug got a line from a minute ago. It was like, uh, we say like doubt will make the most a time, will make the most confident. Nigga wanted m M that shit real, bro, Like when everything ain't lining up externally, how you see it in your head internally?

Speaker 4:It's like, bro, And then you got like I said, I got a kid to have a white light.

Speaker 5:Yeah, I mean it's gonna cut knock every month. They're gonna be out of that shit once your attention has to be diverted into so many other things, and you feel like you're kind of like responsible for all of these other people's happiness, whether it be white for a kid or team or whatever the case. It's like kind of make you wonder like damn and my wasting these people time and my fucking up in my waste my own time, whatever case. So yeah, a thousand plus times real, Like should I love it? Right?

Speaker 4:Yeah?

Speaker 5:I mean I love it at the end of the day. So even when I was going through it and it was like, damn, folks, not fucking with my shit? How fucking with my shit? IMNA keep going until I get better.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 5:I even got projects where I don't go back and listen to it because ship looking at it today, it's like the same shop with give me your money Joan.

Speaker 4:I never listened to songs I want to scrib that, mother, but that I needed that to get to Every artist has those type of records show.

Speaker 2:I don't think that's that's a rare thing.

Speaker 3:You know, we were watching the Double Excel cipher and do you get caught up in any of those type of accolades or that type of recognition.

Speaker 2:Of course, I'm sure you wouldn't mind it. But is that ever a goal?

Speaker 3:Like I need to be on a complex list, I need to be on a Double Xcel freshman, I need to be on the radar site for it.

Speaker 5:Like about to say, I think it would be cool to have, for sure, but it ain't like a make or breaking or ship like that.

Speaker 4:As long as I can, like go out, I make music.

Speaker 5:Bro just got fluid up here, like sit down and talk about my music that I made in my living room, right, I'm not sure eping as long as I can pay, as long as up financially. I don't want to say stable because I want more than that, you know what I'm saying. As long as the money coming in good, my son good, my lady good, and I I tow and people like still feel my music. Everything else love, Yeah, everything else is a plus for it, not say niggas. Wuln't like to be on those lists for sure, but I don't need.

Speaker 1:Your recognition is always good for sure, but it's.

Speaker 5:Not because it brings more of the other things. Yeah, but if they got that already, I'm not tweaking about it. You're not gonna see me on Twitter and Instagram arguing about listro. I'm happy. Don't forget that ship. I've been christ for a minute. Like I said, Louisi got then little youngest Hell got out of talent in the world. Belly gang from the hometown too. She might have one of the best verses of the year. What you're talking about the belly gangs of the Women Circle? Are you talking about that one?

Speaker 4:Rand dude? Like that?

Speaker 1:Like every time that should come on, Like yeah, the reaction that that verse gets in the spot they played it.

Speaker 5:Cresident, I told you went to the day the concert. Last night they played that ship before he came out crazy.

Speaker 4:I was shot.

Speaker 1:Every time I hear that, I'm like, Dad, I ain't gonna lie. They like the girls just waiting verse.

Speaker 4:I was shot.

Speaker 2:Yeah, But yeah, yeah, man.

Speaker 3:I mean, I guess it does help to some degree because it does put you in conversations. I guess in media that typically wouldn't happen because I went and looked up to people I didn't know just they were on this. But I feel like Revenge of the Dreamers might be a better accolade in the long run. I guess it's really just how.

Speaker 4:You look at.

Speaker 5:I got the Grammy plaque on the wall as soon as you step in the first let's get this come back.

Speaker 4:We put that in the other it's the picture of Jesus. Come on you at the bow out there. You go right there, that's just right there. The Holy three to try to fit absolutely not much.

Speaker 3:How much involvement is your lady allowing you in this wedding planek?

Speaker 4:You just shut up and just yeah shut up and here you go. Yeah, here you go.

Speaker 5:I might say I got my suits and my dogs, so that's anything else she's playing there? She needs help, right, she come asked me cool?

Speaker 2:Yeah, stay out the way.

Speaker 1:Yeah.

Speaker 3:We were talking on another episode about like bachelor parties things like that. I was saying I wanted to do like a paintball tournament if I ever have a bachelor party. What's your bachelor party plans?

Speaker 4:So we already went. I just got back from Vegas last what was just ten days ago? Yeah?

Speaker 5:Ok, I never put my folks through that again. Six days in Vegas the most day exactly, Jesus, what the mistakes were made? Vegas is like three people that Vegas don't stay there for I passed.

Speaker 4:I passed out in the pool the first day I was in that. They got a picture of me with like a straw. I knew I had to breathe.

Speaker 5:I was floating, died like I got home, Bro, I wasn't able to hear out of my right like four days, bro, Yeah, try to got bra aggressive.

Speaker 2:Vegas is just such a it's like a by day four, I don't even know if I.

Speaker 4:See liminal faith really don't exist at all.

Speaker 1:Like Vegas is such a terrible place, Like I just don't know how people go to Vegas. That ship was designed to take your soul and like just there's no get the funk out here.

Speaker 5:Yeah, it was reasonally supposed to go to Columbia. But then now, so I do six days there, six months? Oh god, I got another part who got mad in twenty twenty. He had his best party out there and we went out there. It was there for a week, greatest vacation. I bet it was spawning the Fellas Hi hiking Great Time. Ain't got a great time. Oh but yeah, we're supposed to go there, but you know what I'm saying, we got in the presidency right now. He kind of was sucking it up at the time, playing it and yeah, Columbia was like a no go so say that after this, Yeah, ship going out Vegas was a terrible choice, like to bounce back on. But great Time, Great Time is a terrible terrible everything hurts though, yeah, full body still Yeah.

Speaker 3:Was everybody in the Bachelor party, either married or in a relationship, because I'm going on bachelor parties, whether it's a single friend.

Speaker 2:There's the married.

Speaker 4:Like we had a little mixed bag.

Speaker 2:Yeah, and everyone does things separately. Some people wake up earlier.

Speaker 3:Yeah.

Speaker 4:Sound we were walking in the son. Yeah, the son literally you got the first that sue was one O.

Speaker 5:Three god yeah, man, yeah, nah, yeah, we're coming in the house of like seven am, leaving the club and it's daylight. Take a little two hours and now get back up. We ran that ship for like three days. Fourth day we had downy iv D be drill said by the pool. Yeah, shot the ship, Katy see that we back up? Yeah, so aggressive oh man, Yes, Vegas and I was doing Jesus Christ.

Speaker 3:Well, as you know, I was at a very big R and B show over the weekend. There was thousands and thousands of women there that were there to see the people that were singing. But how I could compete and where I was getting my compliments was in the beard basking lather kept me competitive with the beard oil. It was it was shining at that light. You could see it sh What is that that's that's the basket ladder beard oil. It was the only way I was competing out there. Transform your routine to keep your beard looking its best, all in one set that helps you maintain a healthy, stylish, well groomed beard.

Speaker 2:It also includes shampoo, conditioner, bomb oil, all the things you need to compete out there.

Speaker 3:Fellas, I'm telling you, it took me forever to find a really good beard oil and beard wash, and basket Lather is the one that I have found.

Speaker 1:One of the many reagions were outside of the product being great. One of the many reasons why we love basket Lader is that it is black owned and family operated. A dermatologists misdiagnosed Shane, who was the CEO. Her younger sister was misdiagnosed and was told that her hair may never go back. So the family decided that they were going to create a product to try to get everything.

Speaker 2:Back on track.

Speaker 1:So today her hair is flourishing, roots are beautiful. Shane and her mother research and formulated their own scalp in hair or to stimulate growth and retain length. Explore viral bestsellers and products for healthy hair all types at Basque and lathercode dot com. That's Basque and Latherco dot com onto other like rap shit. Is there anybody or any artist that you've ever had a situation where you know, it was like, yeah, let's do some get on something together and you sent something and they never sent it back.

Speaker 1:Is it like, because that's that's like a big thing right now, that's going on where a beef started because of that. But I feel like every rapper goes through that like it's called it's called rapper, just like lingo, like yeah, say some ship, nigga.

Speaker 5:I had the moments for sure. I ain't never look at it on. I never it never got deep enough to be be because I done did the same thing before. I feel like every yeah, and it's like supposed to be mad as hell about it, but I'm sure nine times out of ten another rapper that you done did that to somebody is to get me.

Speaker 4:Out of time.

Speaker 5:It don't even be like I'm not fucking with it because most people down to talk to us. I can have a conversation with her like yeah, it's not my flav it ain't the direction I'm going there right now.

Speaker 4:It'd be like bro needs to be busy.

Speaker 5:I got a chick, and I hope I don't pronounce night wrong right now, ray Khalil, I'm not sure where she's from. I want to say la, but she got like a real crazy soul in her voice type shit. But she reached out to me. I don't got it, Damn. I g like, like seven days ago, I done been. I haven't been in the Gulag for the last year, really fourteen days type and I'm trying to find the time. She sent me a record record crazy, She sent me a record. I like, I might be able to do this in the time limit you need? What is the time limit to me? That I might not mean, but I just want to be honest with you about it, because, yeah, I understand how that ship feel. You know, there's been times where I haven't done that, so I get it.

Speaker 5:But yeah, no beef and no ship like that.

Speaker 2:Yeah, I just feel that she was on rhythm flow.

Speaker 4:Yeah she's like yeah, yeah, yeah, she just hit me in them I've seen. Yeah, she got crazy ship.

Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, she's really said.

Speaker 3:You just said somewhere reason Yeah, and the reason is part of that Illuminati lyricists chat. Right.

Speaker 2:Yeah, he vaguely told me about this. You guys said that imploded.

Speaker 4:It's over it's over what happened crazy enough.

Speaker 3:It was reasons for, right, Yes, it was reasons for Yeah, it's not my story to tell, so I'm not either.

Speaker 4:But you know.

Speaker 3:What reason did with how you fuck up the group chat man, He only told me because he was asking if. He was like, I'm gonna tell you a story, so you can tell me if I'm wrong or not. I was like, he was kind of wrong, yeah, but that's reason.

Speaker 4:Story to tell.

Speaker 5:Yeah, said the publicly, like it's been out. If you look, you can you can find. Okay, you find what's going on type ship. But that's not my story to tell you.

Speaker 4:And it wasn't.

Speaker 1:It was.

Speaker 4:I say it wasn't as deep, but it was. But he owned up to it.

Speaker 5:Yeah, they have to have the type ships. Granted it was after, but he definitely owned up to it. And he still was all right, cool, my bad type ship sunk up? Yeah, I mean, but yeah that said that ship is dead.

Speaker 2:Man sucked it up.

Speaker 1:He fucked up the chacke man.

Speaker 2:What the fuck you out there doing?

Speaker 4:It was the best of time I got.

Speaker 2:I gotta I gotta look into that hit the group chat. Now check the temperature.

Speaker 4:Context. You've never has a lot, like seven people has left. The group.

Speaker 2:Is leaving.

Speaker 1:The group chat is always hilarious, like when you see as left, you like has of a grizz and ship.

Speaker 4:Truly, I don't think I know how to leave group chat. What you mean?

Speaker 1:I don't want to just go like you're deleting and and just say it says leave chat. I'm just not enough group chats where I felt like I need to leave the ship.

Speaker 2:I've definitely left.

Speaker 4:You're gonna make a group chat so you can leave it.

Speaker 1:Yeah, I've definitely left some chats and left after somebody posted something.

Speaker 2:So yeah, niggas know why I left.

Speaker 5:Really like you posting, I'm like, all right if you can't even say nothing to me now, nigga, I can't even see it.

Speaker 1:Yeah, Like I'm out of here, man, this is what you're posting in here, Like, let me get out of here. I don't want to see this ship. Man, Damn Red, you fucked up the chat man, shout out.

Speaker 2:There.

Speaker 4:Everybody was crazy.

Speaker 1:Yeah, this JUNKI in the son ship. You know what, I don't know if you were you know you remember Malik Moses of course to show me something project.

Speaker 2:He had a twenty twenty two.

Speaker 1:This is this, This Junk and the Son gave me just talked to That was one of my favorite projects of twenty twenty two. If you haven't checked it outm Elak Moses showed me something incredible.

Speaker 2:This this JUNKI and his.

Speaker 1:Son reminded me of that. Just good rap, good music again keeping the skill set to the forefront, you know what I mean, Like it's it's always dope to see rappers that still understand that. That is the most important thing about this, you know, I mean everything else is like you know, they dressed things up and then but it's like no, no, no, no, no, it's this person nice can they rap? What are they saying? All they saying is a junk and the son. To Roy's point, definitely one of my favorite rap projects h this year, without a doubt.

Speaker 4:Yeah.

Speaker 3:And I mean, I of course like better and I've liked your past stuff, but this was the best produced album I know you could rappiate. I wasn't sitting here like I wonder if he's gonna rap wells the music, Yeah, it's just the music. It's always as much as I do love lyricists, and that's the core of what I love if it's.

Speaker 4:Not good music, like all right, don't.

Speaker 2:Like I know you let me know when he does leakers like.

Speaker 4:Out or something.

Speaker 2:Yeah, right, exactly this this again.

Speaker 3:Because I am you know, outcast maybe as well Goodie Mob. Just just that whole world didn't sound like you were trying to recreate that. It sounded like twenty twenty six. But this was definitely the best produced album. I feel like that that you put out. It's good music on there.

Speaker 5:Yeah, and boy B, like, what's crazy is the person who produced most of this, produced most of better and produces most of my stuff.

Speaker 4:Brandon Phillips Tyler. That's my dad. He was just here yesterday. You just looked this morning say.

Speaker 5:I was having a conversation with him yesterday. It was like, bro, music is supposed to make you do one or two things. It's supposed to make you remember, or it was supposed to make you forget real like and the music that we make that I've been making up to this point is like really designed to make people remember. It's make you feel something. You rap so you blue in the face. He caught his head. I mean, that shit impressive, But that shit don't hit me.

Speaker 4:Nowhere in here.

Speaker 5:Don't give me no cheers or nothing like that. I can't feel nothing beyond just oh you so good, you so fine. I'm probably not gonna return to it type shit and wing that. You know what I'm saying. I was about saying not to my own hum but it too. Like one thing I'm glad that I've been able to do is like preach sounding preachy, bro, like I'm gonna talk about everything that I got going on, but it's not. It's like, man, you don't want about no car from a car salesman, do. Yeah, you don't want to.

Speaker 4:Hear no preaching from a preacher.

Speaker 5:You want to hear the preacher from the nigga that's on the street type of It's like give me your testimony type of aps. And that's what I think I've been able to do for the period of time. Like it don't sound like I'm talking to you from the clouds and shit like that. It feels like I'm going through the same thing you're going through because I am. Yeah, and nigga just can articulate it better than most people type apps. But yeah, man, I'm excited about that, and I'm glad that it's resonating with people in such a way like I don't know if I know we're doing the one hundred thousand shit independent. So I'm literally in the spirit of like a Nipsey of the Russell or Take nine, whoever you want to look at, Like, we're taking this shit independent. I'm selling one hundred thousand units from this time to the time next year. We're gonna sell it. You ready know it's not for free now we already had a thousands. I mean I missed the CD version. You're gonna re up on those.

Speaker 2:I bought it. But yeah, we were just was like a day late. Actual physical copy.

Speaker 4:We just saw that. We read to bar Is she still in Thief in the Night. Nah, but we re upping on that ship.

Speaker 2:Okay, who did the all work?

Speaker 5:My best friend j Gardner started there in Trinidad right now. She's been going for a little minute, but she paints her ass off. She did it in like three weeks from the time we gave her the idea everything.

Speaker 4:She coocked it up.

Speaker 1:And is there any any artists that you, uh, you want to work with that you just haven't been able to really get in contact with.

Speaker 2:Get a proximity with yet.

Speaker 5:That nigga jer don't put down that flute, wrap with Verse, him and Big Bro. It's like and be's around you know what I'm saying. Been stink on your studios and ship? Yeah, yeah, we got down met up with him type shit, but never on some like this is my music? How do you feel about this? I've just been in the space for different reasons.

Speaker 4:Uh. We had like right right as camps.

Speaker 5:There and like, yeah, he studio, so he just there. I mean definitely coming through shaking hands at that type of ship. Yeah, them for Show cast off Top, Cold off Top, the whole Big Three, for Shure, that's life changing ship. And we've been listening to them. It seems like they've been around my whole damn life. Right yeah right two thousand and nine, two thousand and eight type vibes for show uhu little thud.

Speaker 4:Grant. He can't wrap about the ship that he used to wrap about.

Speaker 2:He gotta change this.

Speaker 1:Yeah, choose his words wisely these days many gospel gospel yeah crazyh.

Speaker 4:Yeah, just out top show support from our class too.

Speaker 5:Uh. I got some with some of these folks, but for some reason we can't put them out like it, you know, and you gotta get it back in again. Uh, couple us, but we don't talk about it any producers. Cool that you want to any producers?

Speaker 4:Got you? Hm hmm.

Speaker 5:Yeah off the top, Yeah, yeah, trembling, Yes, said I have some grapes about the whole AI ship they be doing right now.

Speaker 4:But tembling is a legend, and I'm glad.

Speaker 1:I'm glad you said that. A lot of people stay away from that. But it's like, if you're a real artist, you got to feel a way about that.

Speaker 5:Yeah, I'm definitely upset about it. I think it's hard to like run from the future. And you know what I'm saying. We've gone through this a number of times, whether it be CDs from tapes where they'd be streaming from CDs, all these things. Like granted, a I feels a little different because it takes certain aspects of the musicality itself away, But yeah, the future gonna come one way or another, so you gotta kind of learn to, if not use it to coexist. I mean in a way where it's like you can't don't make yourself bitter about it, because then you're gonna give all your energy to the wrong thing, you sucking up. But I would say Timberland show, that's my birthday twin two. I mean I got Timbling Chuck norrisa been Lyden. Oh yeah, that was shit crazy. But I think bad money on that too.

Speaker 1:That's interest the birthday chat right there, man, Eric Eric Rubin, that's creative shit crazy.

Speaker 3:If you find out the one though, like the other, just look it's easy. Yeah, but I say, you look up under celebrity birthdays dot com. They go look up, go look up your birthday birthdays, and it's just gonna give you.

Speaker 4:Yeah, yeah, some bit lighten right there.

Speaker 1:And I feel like being the most wanted man in the world at one point. One would be like when was this dude? Board mean, like, just to get into the mind of this person, and then if it pops up and he has your birthday, you're like, oh, ship, okay, there you go. They might not have something on that list, you know, they might have scrubbed him. It seems like people people like, it's a picture and you went to one of those sites, Bunny.

Speaker 5:March tenth, Yeah, same day, so yeah that Timblin is cut from the same clock.

Speaker 2:Yeah you know, yeah, you don't know it's the same person.

Speaker 1:I have the same characteristics, just show different pages the envelope in their genre.

Speaker 2:Definitely, Hunter Biden. It is a crazy damn.

Speaker 4:What was going on in March tenth A lot apparently.

Speaker 2:Very interesting?

Speaker 4:Okay, damn.

Speaker 2:You March tenth is popping.

Speaker 4:I have no idea.

Speaker 1:Yeah, I don't know what the hold up is with that show Man one of the one of the best shows now. And the last time I saw jail Funds when we went to Broccoli City.

Speaker 4:Yeah that was two years ago.

Speaker 1:Yeah, and he took the hat off and he had the low murdered hair color. He was like, he had a hat on, so he was kind of like trying to hide it, but he had it on. It was like, we're back shooting and that was ago.

Speaker 4:It's done. Yeah, the music is done. We did the music. It's three years ago. Yeah.

Speaker 3:I was in Stangnia Studios Ship three years ago with drum and in the other room they were writing the p Villy Ship.

Speaker 2:I was like, okay, it was three years ago. Season three coming soon. That's twenty twenty six.
