Speaker 1:Welcome to the last episode of the season one of Little Explorers. And in this episode we're going to talk about a country where pigs are accepted in the form of cash. Yes, it is Vanuatu for us from the continent to Oosceania. Officially, the country is called the Republic of Vanuatu. It's an island country which lies in the South Pacific Ocean. Its capitalist port Villa. Official languages are Beslama, English and French, and the people living here are called Niva Nuatu and Vanuatuins. Some very interesting facts about this country are the islands of this country lie in a wide shaped chain. That's right. They lie between the South Pacific Ocean and the Coral Sea, and they are of volcanic origin. There are a number of to volcanoes, making it one of the most risky international locations on the Earth, as it lies on the Ring of Fire and has frequent volcanic eruptions, cyclones, earthquakes, flooding, and sea rises. Specifically Mount Yasour it's a South Pacific volcano which has been continuously blowing for over eight hundred years. Legend says that it is housed to a cult chief who wants to
Speaker 1:come back to the earth after being reborn. Its nearest countries are Solomon Islands to the northwest, to Valu to the northeast, Wallace in Fatuna and Fiji to the east, New Caledonia to the southwest, and Australia lies to its west. Again one of the least visited international locations. It is due to the risky terrain. Talking about the people of this country, they love to live in nature and also like to take care of the nature around them. Talking about the people, there is a specific tribe in Tanna which worships an American soldier from the Second World War.
Speaker 1:And also you might see people walking around in this country carrying meshets. Yes, a person carrying with machette means that you are taking your manners with you alongside the road. And there's an island Torba in this country which is trying to ban amportation of Western food. The reason is they want their food to turn completely natural, which will help them take care of the unhealthy western meals and also increase the demand of homegrown food. The waters around this country does have coral reefs and there are also remnants of Second World War some sunken ships, specifically an American ship called SS President fool Age is one of the most well known shipwrecks that happened on this island.
Speaker 1:Another interesting thing is that there are one hundred and twenty different languages spoken in this country, but English is one of the official languages too. For the divers, there are many blue holes which make diving and snorkeling a very fun activity here and according to the annual Happy Planet Index, and on this index, Vanuatu ranks number four and for bunge leaping lovers. This particular adventure sport was invented in Vanuatu. Talking about the pigs, they are considered to be a symbol of wealth in this country and are often exchanged in various ceremonies. Now let's quickly take a look at the flag of this country. Vanuatu's flag is a horizontal bicolor of red and green. There's also a black eye saucerly triangle which has its base on the hoist side. There is a golden bores tusk marked there which encircles two cross nimmal side forms in the center, and there's a thin horizontal stripe which makes a y between the three colors. It is edged by black color.
Speaker 1:And this y stands for the Y shaped eyelands of Vanuatu. So that's the flag of Vanuatu for us. For other countries, they're flags and interesting things about them. Listen to more episodes, and don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and share Little Explorers Podcast
